In the greatest TV show of all time, The West Wing, President Josiah Bartlet hides his multiple sclerosis from his staff and the country while running for president. Only his wife, Abigail, and his doctors know the truth. When the president faints in the Oval Office, his communications director, Toby Ziegler, starts to suspect the truth.
Chief of Staff Leo McGarry tells the president they must bring Toby into the circle of trust. When they do so, they convince themselves that Toby will understand, sympathize with the president, and help them figure out a way out of their lie. They were very, very wrong.
As McGarry ushers Toby into the Oval Office, he says: “Toby, take it easy in there.’’
Toby does not take it easy. Indeed, he goes on a rant about fraud on the voters and a coup by the president and his closest advisor, not to mention the president’s wife, who happens to be a doctor who is treating him for MS!!!
At the end, when tempers have cooled, the president says: “I don’t know. It might have been unbelievably stupid.’’
This is television, of course, and the parallel to the situation with President Biden is not exact. Biden’s people will argue it’s not even close, that I am falling into Trump’s talking points and the “bed wetters’’ in the Democratic party who are deserting Biden and handing the election to a sexually assaulting felon who has promised to put journalists in prison and open internment camps at the border.
But the scene hits pretty close to the mark.
Let’s leave Trump out of this for the moment. Let’s also leave out the establishment media like the New York Times editorial board, New Yorker Magazine editor David Remnick, Times columnist Tom Friedman, and many others who have called for Biden to step aside.
Let’s just take a look at what we saw last week and come to grips with it.
First, in a nationally televised debate seen by 50 million-plus people, we saw an 81-year-old president struggle to string words together for 90 minutes.
When he wasn’t talking, Biden had the slackened look of an old man—absent, unable to participate, with open mouth and dazed eyes. When he was talking, he couldn’t get the words out and eventually gave up. He stopped in the middle of his two minutes of time, unable to go on.
When Biden had the opportunity to press his case for a second term and lay out the Trump threat to abortion rights, NATO, and the rule of law, he wandered back to his comfort zone—someplace in the post-World War II era that no longer exists, something about Herbert Hoover, the morals of an alley cat, and worst of all, his golf game.
Biden has become that grandfather at dinner who harkens back to a friendlier time, with good guys and bad guys, where everything was a little clearer. He can’t seem to understand why he is losing this next generation of voters over Gaza, Crypto, and being the head of a party that torpedoed Bernie Sanders in 2016 for the presidency.
I don’t know whether Biden should withdraw from the race or not. He can still win. He has a team of veterans around him to protect and shepherd him through to the nomination and the election. But I doubt it.
We have become a country obsessed with celebrity and performance. And for every lie Trump has told in the debate, for every terrible thing he represents, for all the horrible people he hangs out with, with his destruction of the presidency and our own limited ability to be civil and generous with each other, it is Biden who is suddenly the target of discussion. It is Biden who failed to level with us – and himself.
This debate has forced potential voters to ask some pretty difficult questions. Did Biden have a conversation with his chief of staff about his clear physical and possibly cognitive decline? Did he have it with his wife? Did anyone in the White House have the courage to tell Biden NOT to run for re-election? Who asked the tough questions about how the public would respond? Who was the Toby Ziegler in the room? Why did his staff tell reporters for months that, in private, Biden was great? Why didn’t someone like Barack Obama go to him two years ago and urge him to make way for the next generation?
My guess is that no one spoke up, but we won’t know until the post-Biden books are written.
All this leads to the most uncomfortable question of all: so now what?
Let’s do the civics lesson. The Democratic Party is a private non-profit organization—a kind of club—that makes its own rules. The same is true for the Republicans. Each party holds primary elections in each state, and the winner accumulates delegates who pledge to vote for the nominee at the party convention. The Democrats are meeting in August to nominate Biden.
It is nearly impossible for anyone to force Biden out of the campaign. He holds the delegates. The Constitution has nothing to do with any of this. For another candidate to replace Biden, the president would have to withdraw from the race. He then has to decide what to do with his delegates. He can recommend that they go to the convention and vote for his vice president, Kamala Harris. Or he can urge the convention to be “open,’’ which means the delegates go to Chicago and fight it out old-school: smoke-filled rooms and all that.
We would see a stampede of next-generation politicians wanting to be president: Vice President Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and others. Back-room meetings would be held, and deals would be made. Can the Democrats bypass Harris, who is unpopular, for a new face and risk angering black voters?
It would all be a crap shoot. And no one knows how it will come out in the end. But one thing is for sure, even as you read this, things are moving. Conversations are happening all over the Democratic party. And it is entirely unclear whether Biden can meet the moment.

In the 2020 primaries, Biden finished fourth in Iowa and fifth in New Hampshire. Yet he somehow miraculously dominated Super Tuesday and beyond, and by the slimmest of margins and with the help of a “water main break” in Georgia, “won” the presidency. Your entire scenario is an illusion, shadows on the wall.
Another uncomfortable truth for the democrat party is that they picked Joe SPECIFICALLY because he was malleable and easy to manipulate…an affable elderly front man doing the policy of a shadow executive branch…
Biden’s condition was obvious during the 2020 campaign. And has continued to be obvious through his time in the White House. The TDS crowd was hiding it from themselves, and now the sham has caught up with them.
Does it matter what Joe Biden does now? Well, of course it does. He’s the president. But the ‘never-trump’ crowd, including Mr. Ellis and the rest of the delusional democrats, have rendered themselves irrelevant, especially with the inherent continuing dishonesty of their diversionary rhetoric.
Case in point. “Let’s leave Trump out of this for the moment.” Right?
Anyone who doesn’t see Ellis’s blatant dishonesty in this regard needs to have their head examined (i.e., with some psycho-analytic sessions by a trained therapist). How many times will they accept these not-at-all-subtle false narratives. Ellis barely gets the ‘leave Trump out of this’ sentence written before he launches into “…for every lie Trump has told in the debate, for every terrible thing he represents, for all the horrible people he hangs out with, with his destruction of the presidency and our own limited ability to be civil and generous with each other,…” yadda, yadda, yadda.
I’m not saying that everything Trump said would pass for absolute fact. No one can say that or do that, especially in an extemporaneous debate setting.
Michael J. Fox: “I try not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence is attainable. Perfection is God’s work.”
But everything Trump said was at least partially true. In fact, most of what Trump said was leagues more truthful than most of what Biden said, certainly given that half of what Biden said was incoherent.
And I’m not going to recount the list of specific points mentioned by either candidate that demonstrate Ellis’s dishonesty. After all, Ellis didn’t substantiate his claims – at all. So, as I’ve said before, do your own research. If you have evidence to the contrary, share it, and I promise to take the time to review and comment on each example as soon as I see it published.
Elections have consequences, and what you are seeing under the ” Biden -Administration”, or whoever is pulling the strings we all can see this senile old man is not in control, especially his mental faculties.
What a pathetic display as the leader of the free world, and he has the key to the nuclear codes, I wouldn’t trust him with the keys to my car !!

Ellis is exactly what’s wrong with half the electorate: his TDS is so strong that he willingly chose a husk of a man to be pResident, despite Biden’s long and proven track record of flaccid and ineffective legislation. Even his own boss, a one B. Obama, quipped, “Never underestimate Joe’s ability to f*ck things up!” And who can forget Barry’s SecDef who stated that Joe has been on the wrong side of every major foreign policy decision. But hey, water under the bridge, right??
All the hand-wringing over Trump is for show. When that handsome Prince of Camelot, JFK, was flogging Marilyn Monroe and many others, it was part of his legend. But Trump nailing a porn
star is suddenly cause for the 25th Amendment? And paying her to shut up about it is somehow stretched like taffy into 34 felonies?? That’s how you know Democrats aren’t really upset about their new-found morals being violated, and more about something, ANYTHING, to get the one man not born of the swamp to be disqualified to run.
The fact is, slime is the Democrats stock and trade. And there is no low too low to stop Trump. Even to the point of peddling a long-known, brain-addled cadaver as the clear choice to be trusted with authorizing a nuclear response in under 5 minutes at 3 am.
The debate laid bare the lie we have all been told, and half of us could see otherwise. The other half? Well, the abject panic would be hilarious, if it wasn’t so gravely serious. If you were an enemy of the United States, what would YOU be plotting at this unprecedented and public unveiling of weakness??
Mr Ellis, 50m saw the debate. 81m voted for Biden. How could Democrats betray 81m voters by removing him from the race when he swept up every state in the primaries?
He the most popular president ever. His morals are beyond question. Any negative stories about his son are Russian disinformation and he never, ever said anything bad about anyone – except cornpop. And he’s smaht!
He is our president!! Please show some respect.
“The Democratic Party is a private non-profit organization—a kind of club—that makes its own rules.” When operating a 24/7 laundry service, it’s always good to add the witchcraft wordcraft to make it all seem “normal” and legit. This is the group that came up with the phrase “plausible deniability” and use the term “threat to our democracy” as if they own it and control it – which is the game being played – for all the marbles – not just the ones rolling around aimlessly in their heads.
The pearl-clutchers and psuedo-intellectuals (most being outed as plagarists) are all in a tither because their scam and decades of deception is falling apart right before their beady eyes. Jeffrey Epstien played them and captured their nastiness on camara. Julian Assange captured their emails and boy that really kicked over their hornets nest. So much so, they had to take a number of their own associates out – and not to lunch. Days of Haman, indeed.
Once I figured out what the Democrats really stand for, I repented for my roll in voting and supporting these dispicible beings and rebuke their evil in the name of Jesus Christ. God forgive me, I knew not what they were really doing. Liars and deceivers of the highest order.

There are two points of view here, hard to understand either regarding personal perspectives. One has been in government 50 years, never had an education to the real outside world and cannot understand the outside real world. Has handlers that benefit from government control over the real people and have the opportunity to “guide / direct the puppet. The puppet doesn’t know how to relate to people. His life has been very ell protected within that element. Greed, control and power id the rule and to stay in that mode—modus operandi.
The other side tries to look within that government to understand their motivations for controlling the outside world, very difficult and strive to make a living wherein the dictators make the serfs adhere. It’s difficult to understand and is abnormal to the Constitution and Bill of Rights mindset in the real world.
Have to get a handle on the atmosphere all are within. To bring back government, there ahas to be a revolution, either at the ballot box (if not manipulated by the government powers) to maintain power or like the Boston Tea Party. A leader from the real outside is needed to rectify the situation. Dem Courts are trying to hamper that means by lawfare. The obvious is crystal clear.
There are outside factions (Hollywood, money people, corporations, Foreign governments, etc.) that want a dictator in power Real people need to control them.
From an 80+ year old vet that has seen a lot of transformation and sick of it. The next generation, I hope get involved for their existence, or be serfs without a meaning life. Based on the two individuals that was / is president, the choice is clear in November, if an illegal (Biden voter) doesn’t kill you first.

You see how the education system has worked to dumb-down a few generations since the 1970’s. You see how the propaganda machine installed in every living room in the 1950’s has shaped and molded a culture that has lost it’s morality and ethics. The pain is realizing the collossal lies sold and told for decades has brought our country to the brink of complete collapse. What is holding it together? I do want the fbi investigating biden and his son in their dealing with China and political influence peddling and large amounts of money exchanging hands??
