An 80-year-old Montpelier man has been cited on multiple charges following a police investigation into alleged prostitution-related activity outside a local grocery store.
According to the Berlin Police Department, officers began investigating on April 6 after receiving several reports of a man repeatedly circling women near the entrance of Price Chopper on Ames Drive.
Witnesses told police the man, driving a maroon vehicle, approached women who were soliciting money and allegedly offered payment in exchange for sexual acts. Several individuals reported feeling fearful, telling officers the man’s behavior appeared aggressive and, at times, resembled stalking.
Following interviews with witnesses and multiple alleged victims, police located the suspect on April 8 and identified him as Jon Ripley, 80, of Montpelier.
Ripley was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Criminal Court in mid-June on charges including prohibited conduct, prostitution, and unlawful procurement. He was also served with a notice against trespass on behalf of property owner Redstone.
The investigation remains open, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Berlin Police Department.

It appears to me that if you are begging for money, you should be thick skinned enough to handle such a request.
I’m failing to see what the problem is. Did the state not get their “goods and services” tax?
