BROOKFIELD, Vermont – On May 29, 2024, the Vermont State Police took 57-year-old Joseph Lumbra into custody, effectuating the arrest for charges including Possession of Cocaine, Trafficking Cocaine, Trafficking Fentanyl, and Conspiracy.
Lumbra was one of the residents occupying the residence where a homicide took place on May 12, 2023. These charges are a culmination of the investigation originating on that date.
Lumbra was remanded into custody with bail set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment on May 30, 2024.

The arrest comes after police previously identified and apprehended a suspect in the May 12 double shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured.
On July 22, 2023, authorities arrested 43-year-old Devon Dennis of Hartford, Connecticut in New York City. Dennis was wanted on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder related to the shooting of Juan Sierra, 27, and Miguel Fuentes, 29, both of Springfield, Massachusetts.
Investigators determined the shooting was drug-related. Dennis had traveled to Jamaica following the incident but was arrested upon returning to the U.S.
Dennis is currently jailed pending extradition to Vermont to face the charges. The investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
Crashed into church – Rutland woman is scheduled to appear in court in July after police say her car crashed into a church on Sunday, May 26.
The Rutland County Sheriff’s Department said Katy Kessop, 41, was not injured after her 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe went through a Rte. 133 intersection and crashed into the Clarendon Reformed Bible Church.
She was charged with Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies say Kessop was traveling North on Walker Mountain Road when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering onto Route 133. Kessop entered the church parking lot at a high rate of speed as a result crashing into the church causing severe building damage.

The man in the photo is 57 years old? Wowza…so much for the advertising of good, clean living in Vermont. “With our unparalleled quality of life, an array of career opportunities, and small scale, Vermont is a place where you can succeed while making a difference.” (Courtesy of ThinkVermont: “ThinkVermont is an initiative of the Vermont Department of Economic Development”) Considering the headlines of late, they may want to “rethink” their deceptive advertising practices.
