Republished from the April 11 Lake Champlain Chamber Advocacy Update
by Austin Davis, Lake Champlain Chamber
Last week, Congressional Republicans narrowly approved the compromise budget resolution the Senate passed the previous week, which is yet another step closer to using the reconciliation process to cut upwards of $1.5 trillion from the federal budget.

The GOP lost only two House Republican votes despite about a dozen others having threatened to oppose it because the cuts didn’t go deep enough.
Back here in Vermont: The tally for how much the state is losing grows daily with impacts to essential services.
Potential Pain Points: The Vermont House Appropriations Committee got more granular on the one-third of the state’s budget that comes from federal funding, which is a source of vulnerability and concern. Major areas of federal support include:
- Over $1.5 billion for Medicaid,
- Roughly $354 million in Education funding, and
- Nearly $500 million in Transportation funds at a time when financial constraints mean the state will repair half as many roads this year.

The state is starting to draw the ire of the Trump Administration and that was seen in two distinct ways this week.
- Climate Superfund – An executive order this week calling on the U.S. Attorney General to identify ways to halt the enforcement of laws, such as the climate superfunds, that he said have threatened “American energy dominance.” Read more about that here.
- Education curriculum – A directive from the Trump administration would instruct school districts to certify that they are not engaging in “illegal DEI.” Noncompliance could put millions of federal dollars under threat. Read more here.

I hope the cut all the funds for the Fake Climate Crisis! Vermont also needs to stop supporting any type of DEI in schools too! Schools need to go back to teaching , Reading, English, Math and Science and Civics and History!
The Constitution always meant for the States to support themselves. The Federal Government was only supposed to protect from enemies both Foreign and Domestic and it was not to interfere with themselves States. Vermont needs to drop this Sanctuary State position as well. That’s going to cost us Big Time when it comes to Federal Money. That’s all on the Democratic Majority that approved that crap too! I do not want my tax dollars going to supporting people that broke the law when they snuck across the Border. They are costing us money and living in housing that should be for Vermonters that having trouble finding housing. They are stressing our Healthcare System and benefiting from Medicaid. They all need to leave on their own or be deported.
Exactly! The illegals need to be removed from it in Vermont
Vermont lost its subversion funding? Oh my we might have to live within our means and figure things out amongst ourselves?
Just think, people, presidents have been talking about a cure for cancer, Ivermectin and Febezanol (sp?) has been getting much press. Do you know how cheap these drugs are? Like $14 per bottle, could you imagine being able to cure cancer in 6-8 weeks for $40? Think of the cost savings, the happiness.
Who would be against this? How could anyone be against this?
Well, the Billion-dollar business model?
It’s like the time share business……good for the project owners, not so good for the buyers….

Fun Facts:
Investopedia: “The federal deficit truly started to grow during the financial crisis of 2007 to 2008 as the government bailed out banks and other companies, and engaged in quantitative easing. In 2009, the deficit started to shrink, almost reaching 2007 levels, before increasing again in 2016. The federal deficit took a hit again during the COVID-19 pandemic with the numerous government aid packages, which resulted in the highest levels of the federal deficit. ”
USA Fact.org: “As of April 2024, the five countries owning the most US debt are Japan ($1.1 trillion), China ($749.0 billion), the United Kingdom ($690.2 billion), Luxembourg ($373.5 billion), and Canada ($328.7 billion).” Luxembourg?

And just for consideration and a dose of reality:
(Zerohedge): “Claiming it held a “command and control center used by Hamas,” Israel chose Palm Sunday to bomb the only Christian hospital in war-shattered Gaza. It was also the last fully-functioning hospital in Gaza City. No casualties from the bombing per se were reported by Gaza’s civil emergency service. However, a child who’d been hospitalized for a head wound died from “the rushed evacuation process,” said the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, which runs the al Ahli Arab Hospital. The diocese is part of the Anglican Church.”
More lies, more manipulations, more wealth transfer, more death and destruction in whose name or to who’s benefit again? If people have lost the plot to this ongoing dystopian lunactic Theater of Absurdity, you are not alone. Best be prepared.
