Dame: VTGOP joins Senator Welch in calling for Biden to drop out of presidential race

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

by Paul Dame

Earlier this week Sen. Peter Welch wrote an op-ed calling on President Biden to step down. VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame issued the following statement in response:

“I am surprised to agree with Senator Peter Welch on this, but many Republicans also believe that ‘for the good of the country’ President Biden should withdraw from the race for President. It is rare to have this kind of bipartisan support on such a significant and urgent issue, but when Senator Welch is right he ought to be recognized. While I, and other Democrats like Jared Golden of Maine disagree with Sen. Welch’s more provocative claims, I have to agree with his conclusion: Biden’s continued campaign is problematic, and he is unlikely to win.”

“It’s easy to write off the debate as a single bad performance, but President Biden continues to decline, and this time doing so on the world stage at the NATO meetings. President Biden’s confusion of Vladimir Putin as the President of Ukraine, and his comment about “Vice President Trump” being qualified have made America an embarrassment to our allies and a target to our enemies.”

“Unfortunately Democrats like Peter Welch have sat by for the past nine months and allowed the DNC to change the rules of the primary to sideline challengers to Biden, like Robert F. Kennedy, by changing the rules of qualification in states like New Hampshire and outright cancelling primaries in states like Florida. While Democracy was being smothered in the Democrat’s Primary, Sen. Welch sat by idly because he didn’t want to rock the boat. It has been very on-brand to watch Democrats advocate for Biden to abort his campaign this late in the term”

”If Sen. Welch, or any other single Democrat anywhere in the country, had displayed this kind of courage earlier in the primary process, the Democrats may have been able to avoid the incredibly awkward and painful predicament they find themselves in. Instead Democrats kept on pretending that that the flaws in their candidates could be ignored out of existence the same way that the flaws in their economic policies could be wished away.”

“But despite our differences, we join Senator Welch in calling for Biden to step down. We also encourage the other members of Vermont’s Federal Delegation to join us and Senator Welch in asking Biden to step aside for the good of the country.”

  1. If Biden drops out of the race due to his health, he SHOULD resign as President.

  2. The good of the country requires that no Democrat be running the executive branch. That is best accomplished by assuring that Joe remains the nominee of choice. If you want Trump to rescue what’s left of this country, you should be “ridin’ with Biden”.

    • Just more proof that Paul Dame is on the side of the Commiecrats and is not supporting the Republican nominee Donald J. Trump. That’s why Paulie sides with Welch. A real Republican would not care what the Commiecrats do. The Commiecrats are digging a hole and Paul Dame is taking away the shovel.

  3. Hey progressive DemocRATs, Joe Biden is the horse you brought to the race, so let him run……..Peter, you and your counterparts have buried your heads in the sand and covered for Biden’s mental cognitive decline for the past three years, now you want to throw him to the curb as you’re on a sinking ship. Biden has run the country into the ground, we must run him out of town and the WH, it looks like Peter sees the writing on the wall and DemocRATS being the power-hungry fools they are, Joe better sleep with one eye open………………… Welch is a pathetic, puppet !!

The VTGOP and its leadership is feckless, they better get into the swing of things,
as Donald J Trump will be in the WH 2025……….. Karma is great !!

  4. Doesn’t the VT GOP already have enough to be concerned about with statewide elections looming?

While I am conservative nonsense like this is why I am not a Republican

  5. How does our governor feel? Trump or Biden? Asking for a friend.

  6. So why would the republicans want Joe Biden out? Are these the same republicans who won’t vote for Donald Trump? Wasn’t it the top tier republicans in 2020 that told us to vote for Joe Biden because it would be good for America? Didn’t our current republican governor vote for Joe Biden and has also said he won’t be voting for Trump in 2024?

So, the gang down at republican headquarters must have held a meeting to side with Welch (the political enemy of commonsense and a democratic yes man) so they could vote for the new democrat replacement. They aren’t doing this for the good of the country, they are hoping someone else will be able to beat Trump. If I am correct in my assessment, I find the whole thing disgusting. Trump is our next President and deserves it after all the media lies, the fake impeachments, the J6 scam committee and BS lawfare he’s had to deal with.

  7. Gee if joey drops out of the race who is King Scott going to vote for??? Kamala, Clinton, Newsome or Obama?? Take your pick phil

    • Newsome is probably Phils pick. He destroyed California and that is the same judgement used to vote for Joe seeing as how he’s destroying America.

  8. Good to see the VTGOP jumping on board with opinions they should be leading with. The identity of the VTGOP is to hold moderate popular opinions, and toe-the-line of political correct conservatism. They are useful idiots for the Democratic party and it’s shameful.

  9. you may have to just vote for yourself//// this is nothing more than a dog and pony show/////

  10. Ask yourself why the Vermont GOP would want a democratic candidate that “they say” is unlikely to win to step out of the race.

    • It’s really very simple Mike. Because Dame and Scott (who BTW are not conservatives) know Biden can not beat Trump and they don’t want Trump to win!!

    • I’ve been asking this same question of many in the GOP for many months now. Be careful what you wish for……Mitchel Obama will kick Trump’s butt to the curb and Obama’s Marxist policies will finally finish off this nation for good: Obama has been “fundamentally transforming” the USA for 12 years now. Just as he promised.

  11. What differences are you exactly referring to between yourself and Welsh?

You have been pushing for President Trump to drop out the race for/as POTUS for the past eight years yourself, Mr. Dame.

  12. Nope, nope, not yet it’s too early. It’s all part of the plan, a few grumbles here and there, coupled with others vehemently denying anything is amiss and then in the eleventh hour he’ll drop out, a new candidate that has been chosen and waiting for the word will emerge. They can’t bear the thought of old Joe being beaten in a rematch, the media on cue will shout from the rooftops (in lockstep) that the new person is the one who can fix it all, which will it make so much more legit looking when he/she is installed NOT elected. I’m not a prophet, but I’ve got a feeling that is likely how things will unfold.

  13. Re: “VTGOP joins Senator Welch…”

Surprised? What more do you need to know about the VT GOP?

  14. The RNC is in session right now – is Dame there? Or was he not invited and instead colluding with the top Democrats on the next tragedy to be unleashed to steal the election? Is the bird flu emergency locked and ready to roll? Allegedly, Colorado has determined it is and the shots are ready for your obedience and compliance.

  15. Not a well thought out offering from our VTGOP chair. Just shut up about it and enjoy their chaos until after the democrat convention.

  16. Paul Dame is the proof. THERE ARE NO REPUBLICANS, THERE ARE NO DEMOCRATS.
THERE IS ONLY PROGRESSIVES (AKA COMMUNISTS0 AND PATRIOTS.

  17. I do not support Joe Biden, his policies, or the lack thereof. But this political melt down should expose, once and for all, the corrupt elitism of our elected officials, democrat AND republican. Whatever you may think of Joe Biden, he was the winner of our primary sessions. The voters have spoken. The VOTERS have spoken! And our political elites can’t handle that.

Are the voters always right in their consensus assessment? Hardly. Just look at Vermont’s legislative super-majority. Voters get it wrong all the time. But that’s the nature of our Constitutional Republic. And now we see politicians in positions of power getting ready to eat their own and openly despise the will of the people.

Peter Welch is saying that he has changed his mind about Biden because of what he has recently heard from Vermonters. Hog wash? Welch is either lying or he’s dumber than a post… or both. But what is most important to understand now is the level of disregard our corrupt politicians have for the will of the people. Anyone, on whatever side of the aisle one sits, who calls for the disregard of the decisions expressed by voters in our primaries, represent what we’ve been characterizing as the ‘deep state’ for years now.

These people have no clothes. Their corruption is there for all to see. And, ironically, it’s the ‘deep states’ attack on Joe Biden that has exposed them once and for all. Never mind what they’ve been doing to the MAGA crowd for the last 8 years. These people, Welch, Dame, and all the others, couldn’t care less about what the voters actually think.

What I hope you all now understand is that this presidential race is not about Biden, or Trump for that matter. Trump just happens to be the bull in the China shop. If Trump’s only attribute is exposing the corruption in what many of us have been characterizing as ‘the deep state’ for years now, electing Trump will be worth whatever distaste (real or imagined) you may have for the man.

Might Trump become the leader of another ‘deep state’? Not a chance. We’re on to the political corruption that’s been manifesting since Woodrow Wilson had a stroke more than 100 years ago. Eisenhower warned us of the military/industrial complex in 1960. And yes, I’m old enough to remember Eisenhower.

Keep in mind Chuck Schumer’s warning to Trump eight years ago. “Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.”

As I’ve been trying to explain on VDC, to my friends and business associates for years now – we’re being gamed by ‘good cop’/’bad cop’ false dichotomies. These are NOT conspiracy theories. At some point you will see, that if it walks like a duck… well, you get the idea.

  18. I also call for the stepping aside, for the good of Vermont, and country ,along with Welch’s comment that Biden should step aside; I think it is a great idea the Welch and Sanders also step aside, for the good of Vermont and the country, and don’t let the door hit you on the butt, on the way out.
