| As the EPA continues cleanup operations at two historic copper mines in Corinth and Vershire this year, copper is back in vogue. Wall Street Journal reports that electricity demand has fueled “a global rush to acquire more copper, a key component in everything from electric cars to transmission lines and the data centers powering the AI revolution.” The rush is transforming some far-flung corners of the world. The United States has committed more than $1 billion to develop infrastructure in Angola, Congo, and Zambia to export critical minerals. The U.S. Agency of International Development is financing a multibillion dollar copper mine in Pakistan that will be among the world’s largest when it comes online in 2028. “We don’t have a lot of new supply coming online around the world,” an advisor to President Biden told WSJ. “What concerns me is even when a discovery is made, it could take between seven and 15 years before the first copper comes out.” Chinese marijuana grows demand electricity – Although Maine legalized recreational cannabis in 2016, large black market marijuana cultivators thrive in the state, reported CBS News last month. Even in the past week, local media report there have been further raids throughout the state including in Harmony and Freedom. “Chinese organized criminal networks that are international by nature are behind some of the biggest black market marijuana trafficking organizations that we’ve seen to date,” former DEA Chief Raymond Donovan told CBS. He said the easiest way to spot an illegal cultivation is the amount of electricity it consumes. “These locations consume huge amounts of electricity,” Maine Wire editor Steve Robinson told CBS News. “In order to accommodate that amount of energy, you need to upgrade your electrical infrastructure — and significantly. We’re getting into specialty electrical equipment that is very scarce and hard to come by, especially in the state of Maine.” |

“Chinese marijuana grows demand electricity” Climate change! Was there any discussion of Vermont’s “growing” demand in that meeting at the State House February of 2019? Buy more EV’s, grow more potent weed, and partake in copious amounts of fentanyl. Our GDP is China’s business model.
You may be stuck at home because you cant charge your electric vehicle, but you will have plenty of pesticide-laden, Chinese-produced weed to indulge in…Dont worry-be happy!
did you save all of your used copper rifle shells for reloading////
Just so you know most ammunition have brass shell casings though some do have steel. Brass of course is an alloy of copper and zinc
My Dad worked in the Elizabeth mine in Stratford when I was born in 56. He always said there was a bunch of good ore down there but the cost of extraction was prohibitive. Now it’s environmentally impossible
