Details of the November 8 murder of a Hardwick landlord by his tenant surfaced in a news report Friday.
“No alcohol, huh?” tenant Donald Brochu told landlord, Robert Marquis, 52, before fatally shooting him in their Elm Street, Hardwick home, the Caledonian-Record reported in a December 1 news story, “Presumed Shooter In Hardwick Killing Was On Probation For Criminal Threatening.”
Brochu, 55, fled the home, where he had rented a room, and hours later shot himself to death after being stopped by police. Marquis died of his wounds four days later.
Brochu had rented the room to Brochu, who was on probation for a conviction of criminal threatening. The report by editor Dana Gray cites tenant Dominic Smith, 27, as a witness, who said the shooting happened behind a closed door but that he could hear every word.
“Don came home and Rob said, ‘I need to talk with you a minute. My father isn’t here anymore. I still don’t want alcohol in here. Please don’t drink in the house anymore,’” Smith is quoted in the Caledonian. “(Marquis) said it so calmly, so nicely.” Smith said he heard “‘’No drinking, no alcohol, huh?’ and he shot Rob in the head.’”
The Dept. of Corrections was unable to act on Marquis’s protests about Brochu’s drinking, gun possession, and belligerent behavior, because none of those behaviors were covered by his probationary conditions, a Dept. of Corrections official reportedly told Marquis.

didn’t like to follow ” the rules ” and apparently, he didn’t know that it was illegal to have a gun as a criminal…….. correct.
Oh that’s right, ” criminals ” don’t care about any rules, and gun laws really don’t matter, they don’t care how many you make, they’ll never follow one of the liberal BS law ………………………..
Bad news Mr.Marquis died, for no reason, from a POS……the good news, no trial for Brochu !!
Dept. of Corrections “unable to act”?
The systems that most believe protect the public no longer exist. Look to no other than your representatives, senators, governor empty suit, lt. governor plantation farmer, and the woke, hapless administration to place full blame and responsiblity. A triggered person is not happenstance. There are a number of simmering, boiling, messed up people running around and no one knows what or who will strike the match to their gas can. Can’t wait to hear the State of the State address. We can all expect they have to have more money to fix the problem that is never fixed. Be ready to hear it is all due to climate change and racism nonetheless and for that, we will be surcharged accordingly as the blood continues to run in the streets.
The 27 year old was a witness; not the shooter. Please apologize to him for this.
Names and details don’t matter at this point, just let her get it out. The rest of her day is a lot better after, I’m sure. Another infuriating cloud will be flying by tomorrow. She can get it right then.

I apologize for the error made in my comment. Thank you Guy for correcting it. At least I own up to it – can’t say the same for others.
The left has dismantled the criminal justice system to the point where every “justice involved individual” now enjoys the status of “victim of an uncaring society” and that distinction comes with all the trimmings and benefits we can lavish upon them in our maligned victim-worshiping society. Landlords and those who rent out rooms often have their hands tied as to how they are able to deal with antisocial or belligerent tenants. We already have tough federal and now state laws regarding dangerous individuals possessing firearms and other weapons. Some are effective WHEN ENFORCED and some were only passed with the intention of hassling the law-abiding. This victimhood-incentivizing is a societal problem that could be fixed in one election so we have only ourselves to blame as we continue to be brainwashed by the left and stray from the benefits of a merit-based society.
I’m sure Mr. Brochu had a gun just for self-defense. Ooops!
Yup, to defend himself from the law-abiding. They know who those are and seem to target them specifically. They must be elated at being sprung out of jail, that over-expensive thing that keeps us safe. I’d rather we fund the DOC and defund the Board of Ed, at this point. Let’s just think of the jails and prisons as a huge Ukraine we can all get behind.
