Pledges to “finish what we started”

Small business owner and conservative activist Mark Coester announced Thursday, June 26 that he will again seek a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, declaring a 2026 congressional campaign with a populist message focused on “freedom, working families, and fighting Washington elites.”

The seat is now occupied by Democrat Rep. Becca Balint of Brattleboro, former leader of the Vermont Senate.

Coester, a logger, fisherman, and lifelong Vermonter known for his grassroots appeal, previously ran for the seat in 2024 and received over 100,000 votes. In his campaign launch announcement, he said the time has come to “finish what we started.”

“I’m not a polished politician,” Coester said. “I’m one of you. And I’m going to keep speaking up, standing firm, and fighting like hell for our state.”

His renewed campaign platform centers on lowering energy costs, defending constitutional rights, securing the U.S. border, supporting family farms and small businesses, and pushing for term limits to curb the influence of career politicians.

Coester emphasized that rising costs, federal overreach, and lax border security are hitting Vermont families hard, and criticized “out-of-touch elites” in Washington for failing to address local needs.

“Bad policies out of Washington hurt families like ours,” he said. “This is a people’s campaign. No big money, no backroom deals — just Vermonters coming together to take our future back.”

A longtime advocate for traditional values and government accountability, Coester’s biography reads like a throwback to Vermont’s rural roots. He has made maple syrup for over 50 years, a passion that began when he was just 10 years old. In 2024, syrup he made with his partner Laurie — whom he calls his “Sugar moma” — swept the Addison County Fair with multiple top awards.

Supporters say Coester’s appeal lies in his authenticity and deep ties to the land and working-class culture of Vermont. His campaign message positions him as an outsider ready to challenge entrenched interests in Washington.

  1. Mark didn’t get those 100,000 votes. The (R) next to his name did. VTGOP needs to primary someone else during this next election cycle if they hope to garner enough statewide support to oust Becca.

    • Perhaps you are better served to ‘dance with them that brung ya.’

    • Mark Coester is too conservative to be endorsed or be put up as a Vermont Republican candidate because they would rather run someone like King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati because they always run a fence sitter and try to pull some of the Commiecrat vote. The Vermont Republican party under Paul Dame is a real good example of why we call them RINO’s. I voted for Marke Coester before I will vote for him again. I will never vote for the lesser of two evils and then get stabbed in the back. I vote for who will follow the Constitution.

“There are two sides to every issue: one side is right, and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil. The man who is wrong still retains some respect for truth, if only by accepting the responsibility of choice. But the man in the middle is the knave who blanks out the truth in order to pretend that no choice or values exist, who is willing to sit out the course of any battle, willing to cash in on the blood of the innocent or to crawl on his belly to the guilty, who dispenses justice by condemning both the robber and the robbed to jail, who solves conflicts by ordering the thinker and the fool to meet each other halfway. In any compromise between food and poison, it is only death that can win. In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit. In that transfusion of blood which drains the good to feed the evil, the compromise is the transmitting rubber tube.” – Ayn Rand

  2. Good luck, Mark. I know you are a man of conviction who loves Vermont. You will not compromise your values or love of country to serve the liberal globalist agenda that strives to destroy national and individual sovereignty.

  3. I am looking for a Trump supporter, MAGA supporter, and not
a Becca or democrat or rino. You will do.
