Major U.S. airport on red alert as passenger is diagnosed with world’s most infectious disease after receiving MMR vaccine | 1 May 2025 | Health officials are sounding the alarm over a potential measles exposure at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. An infected adult was mainly confined to the airport’s Terminal 1 area, potentially exposing hundreds of others to the world’s most infectious disease. The person was at the airport — the world’s fourth busiest in terms of passenger numbers — on April 22 and April 23 between 10am and 8pm both days. They had had one prior dose of the MMR vaccine, but they went on to develop a rash on April 25 and tests confirmed they had contracted measles. Another case was identified days later in an adult living in the same county in Illinois.
Experts issue terrifying warning to America: Prepare for pandemic NOW as new virus spreads to all 50 States | 29 April 2025 | Leading health experts have warned that the U.S. is staring down the barrel of another pandemic as bird flu spirals out of control on U.S. farms. So far, the H5N1 outbreak has affected nearly 1,000 dairy cow herds and resulted in more than 70 human cases, including the first confirmed death. Although human-to-human transmission has not yet been observed, experts caution that mutations and reassortments — when two viruses simultaneously infect a host and exchange genetic material — could raise the risk of it occurring. The Global Virus Network (GVN) is warning that countries must prepare for the possibility of human-to-human spread to avoid a chaotic chain of events reminiscent of the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
UK scientists are about to attempt to dim the Sun | 27 April 2025 | British scientists could experiment with techniques to block sunlight as part of a 50 million-pound government funded scheme to combat global warming. The geo-engineering project is set to be given the go-ahead within weeks and could see scientists explore techniques including launching clouds of reflective particles into the atmosphere or using seawater sprays to make clouds brighter. Another method involves thinning natural cirrus clouds, which act as heat-trapping blankets. Critics have warned it could cause catastrophic disruption to weather patterns and even shift rain from areas that are vital for food production.
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Deputy Alex Wong Out at National Security Council – Reports | 1 May 2025 | National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong will be ousted Thursday from their roles at the National Security Council, according to reports. Reports from CBS News, Fox News, and Politico state that Waltz and Wong will be leaving their posts, and that President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, is having conversations with National Security Council staff. Waltz came under scrutiny after he put together an encrypted Signal group chat that mistakenly included the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, which inadvertently disclosed discussions with top Trump administration officials about plans to strike Houthi targets in Yemen… Politico wrote that the ouster could happen any moment but is not necessarily final.
Zelensky openly threatening Victory Day terrorist attack – Moscow | 30 April 2025 | Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has openly threatened to target the Victory Day parade in Moscow on May 9, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Russia has announced a unilateral three-day ceasefire next week to coincide with the celebration commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. Kiev has rebuked the move, instead demanding an immediate unconditional 30-day truce. On Tuesday, Zelensky described targeting Russian “pressure points” to push the country “towards diplomacy” as he reiterated the ceasefire call. “They are now concerned that their parade is in jeopardy and rightly so,” he remarked, referring to the event scheduled for May 9 in Red Square.
Kiev operative charged in Russian general’s assassination | 27 April 2025 | Russian investigators have charged a man with carrying out a car bomb attack that killed a senior general in a Moscow suburb last week. The suspect confessed to acting under orders from Ukrainian security services, the Investigative Committee has said. In a statement released on Sunday, investigators announced that 42-year-old Ignat Kuzin faces charges of committing a terrorist act and illegal handling and manufacturing of explosives. The committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said Kuzin fully admitted his guilt and agreed to confirm his testimony during on-site investigation procedures. Kuzin was detained shortly after the explosion that killed the deputy chief of operations of Russia’s General Staff, Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik, on April 25 outside his home in Balashikha. Petrenko stated that Kuzin had been recruited by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) in 2023.
Trump responds to Moscow car bombing that killed Russian general | 26 April 2025 | U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to look into the assassination of a senior Russian general outside Moscow on Friday, telling reporters “That’s a big one.” The incident took place as Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, arrived in Moscow for high-level talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Yaroslav Moskalik, the deputy chief of operations of Russia’s General Staff, was killed in a car bomb explosion outside his residence in Balashikha, a suburb east of Moscow. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova suggested there is “reason to believe that Ukrainian intelligence services were involved in the assassination,” noting that Moskalik was involved in talks to resolve the Ukraine crisis before the conflict escalated in 2022. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump, who apparently had not known about the incident until he was asked, said, “That’s hitting close to home, right? That’s a big one.” He added: “I’ll look at it. If I hear anything, I’ll let you know.”

Ukraine and its backers have dismissed the results of the referendum as illegitimate… In an interview to mark his first 100 days in office, Trump said Crimea “went to the Russians” long ago and suggested that “everyone understands” that Ukraine will not be able to get it back. “Crimea will stay with Russia” under a final settlement of the Ukraine conflict, Trump went on to say, adding that even Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky understands this. “It’s been with them for a long time,” the U.S. president stated, noting that Russia had its submarines there “long before any period that we’re talking about” and that the majority of Crimeans speak Russian.

Israeli jets bomb Beirut’s southern suburbs – marking third strike on the area since November ceasefire | 27 April 2025 | Israeli jets bombed Beirut’s southern suburbs yesterday – marking the third strike on the area since a ceasefire took effect in late November. A huge plume of smoke billowed over buildings after the attack but there were no immediate reports of casualties. An hour before the strike the Israeli military warned it was targeting Hezbollah facilities in the Hadath area and urged residents to move. Failure of Highway Patrol to Notify TBI After Suspecting Kilmar Abrego Garcia of Human Trafficking Appears to Contradict Standard Procedure | 30 April 2025 | The Tennessee Star was the first to report that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the recently deported citizen of El Salvador, was stopped by Tennessee Highway Patrol and suspected of human trafficking in December 2022, with the agency ultimately confirming the “Biden-era FBI” instructed officers to release Abrego Garcia and his eight passengers, despite their suspicions of human trafficking and him presenting an invalid driver’s license. The decision by highway patrol not to contact the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), which is empowered by state statute to train law enforcement officers how to detect human trafficking, and to investigate human trafficking cases across the state, appears to contradict established procedures. For example, Tennessee Code 38-6-102 authorizes TBI to launch its own investigations into organized crime, especially investigations involving “an offense involving any form of trafficking,” establishing its ability to conduct such work.

Power slowly being restored after deadly derecho tears through Ohio, Pennsylvania | 1 May 2025 | A line of severe thunderstorms evolved into a derecho Tuesday evening, bringing destructive wind gusts across parts of the Ohio Valley and interior Northeast, leading to at least three deaths and power outages for hundreds of thousands. The strongest impacts were reported in southeastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, where straight-line wind gusts reached 80 mph — stronger than many low-end tornadoes but across a much wider area. In Pittsburgh, a man was killed after being electrocuted by live wires, according to the city’s public safety department.
LA fire investigation will take a year or more, Edison CEO says | 1 May 2025 | The probe into the deadly Southern California Eaton fire is likely to take a year or more as authorities examine Edison International’s utility equipment as the possible cause, according to the company’s chief executive officer. Edison, meanwhile, is conducting its own investigation and has reviewed some “circumstantial information” indicating its power lines may have played a role in the blaze that destroyed much of the town of Altadena in January, CEO Pedro Pizarro said Wednesday during an interview on Bloomberg Television. The Eaton Fire was among the most deadly blazes in California history, killing 18 people. Edison plans to begin settlement talks with victims who have sued the utility if the company concludes its equipment started the fire, Pizarro said. The company would pay for the first 1 billion for any settlement with its own insurance, while the rest would come from the state of California’s 21 billion wildfire fund, Pizarro said.
