Eight days after he crushed the competition in Iowa’s low-turnout Republican presidential caucuses, Trump easily defeated Nikki Haley – his final remaining major rival for the GOP nomination – in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary. Fox News projected Trump would win the primary — minutes after the final polls closed in New Hampshire… While Haley appeared to grab the support of plenty of independent voters, Trump was on course to dominate among registered Republicans, who were expected to make up the lion’s share of those casting ballots in New Hampshire’s GOP primary.

Trump cruises in New Hampshire primary election, Haley vows to fight on | 23 Jan 2024 | Donald Trump cruised to victory in New Hampshire’s Republican presidential contest on Tuesday, Edison Research projected, marching closer to a November rematch with Democratic President [sic] Joe Biden even as his only remaining rival, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, vowed to soldier on despite her loss. Haley had hoped the Northeastern state’s sizable cadre of independent voters would carry her to an upset win that might loosen Trump’s iron grip on the Republican Party. Instead, Trump will become the first Republican to sweep competitive votes in both Iowa – where he won by a record-setting margin eight days ago – and New Hampshire since 1976, when the two states cemented their status as the first nominating contests. With 41% of the expected vote tallied, according to Edison, Trump held a comfortable 54.7% to 43.7% lead.

Biden wins write-in vote in New Hampshire | 23 Jan 2024 | Joe Biden won an unusual Democratic write-in vote in New Hampshire’s primary election on Tuesday, an important display of political strength, despite his name not being on the ballot. Edison Research projected Biden the winner over two Democrats whose names were actually on the ballot – U.S. Representative Dean Phillips of Minnesota and self-help author Marianne Williamson. The victory for the incumbent president [sic] was the end product of a fervent write-in campaign orchestrated by New Hampshire Democrats, who were troubled by the national party’s decision to send the state’s first-in-the-nation primary election to more diverse South Carolina.

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan in October imposed the gag order against Trump as part of special counsel Jack Smith’s D.C. election case against him, stating, “This is about language that presents a danger to the administration of justice.” The three-judge panel of the appeals court in December upheld the order, but narrowed its scope to only prevent Trump from discussing “known or reasonably foreseeable witnesses concerning their potential participation in the investigation or in this criminal proceeding.”
