The officials — including former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller as well as six ex-US attorneys general — were compelled to testify before the House Oversight Committee. Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced the move less than two weeks after DOJ officials interviewed Epstein’s late accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence in a federal prison for sexually abusing young girls.
Mystery orange shape spotted near Jeffrey Epstein’s jail cell night before his death – report | 30 July 2025 | An orange shape was spotted on surveillance footage near Jeffrey Epstein’s prison cell on the final night of his life — and forensic experts are questioning the federal government’s explanation of the mysterious object. The shadowy object, seen in video obtained and reviewed by CBS News, moves up the stairs to Epstein’s cell block at the Metropolitan Correctional Center around 10:40 p.m. the night before the 66-year-old convicted sex trafficker was found hanged. Federal investigators previously concluded the pixelated blob was a corrections officer “carrying linen or inmate clothing,” but forensic experts who spoke to the network as part of an investigation into the jail video now suspect it may have actually been a jumpsuit clad inmate. “Based on the limited video, it’s more likely a person in an [orange] uniform,” Conor McCourt, a retired NYPD sergeant and forensic video expert, told CBS.

The intelligence came from two memos obtained by the Obama administration in the lead-up to the Clinton-Trump contest and laid out “confidential conversations” between members of the Democratic National Committee and liberal billionaire George Soros’s Open Society Foundations. The plan included “raising the theme of ‘Putin’s support for Trump'” and “subsequently steering public opinion toward the notion that it needs to equate” the Russian leader’s political influence campaign with actual hacking of election infrastructure. “Clinton approved a plan proposed by one of her foreign policy advisors, Julianne Smith, to ‘smear Donald Trump by magnifying the scandal tied to the intrusion by the Russian special services in the pre-election process to benefit the Republican candidate,'” one of the declassified memos read.

He said students will begin instruction through a required curriculum titled “Defense of Ukraine,” and take part in organized paramilitary games.
Israeli government tries to fire head of Netanyahu corruption probe | 5 Aug 2025 | The Israeli government voted unanimously on Monday to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, who is currently prosecuting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for corruption. The move was immediately suspended by the Israeli High Court. Netanyahu and his supporters have accused Baharav-Miara of exceeding her powers by blocking decisions by the elected government, including a move to dismiss the head of Israel’s domestic security agency. In a statement after the vote, Baharav-Miara called her dismissal “unlawful” and vowed that she and her office would remain faithful to the law and continue to act professionally and honestly. “This is a fateful blow to the rule of law, equality before the law, human rights, and the ability of the law enforcement system to deal with government corruption,” she added.
Brazil Puts Jair Bolsonaro Under House Arrest After Massive Anti-Government Protest | 5 Aug 2025 | Police placed conservative former President Jair Bolsonaro under house arrest on Monday night by order of Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes for allegedly breaking the restrictions imposed on him after Bolsonaro’s sons published footage of him on social media. Police seized the former president’s mobile phones and barred him from using any other phone device, including that of his wife Michelle Bolsonaro or any third party. De Moraes also banned Bolsonaro from receiving any visitors at his residence in Brasília except for family members and lawyers. Visitors cannot record or take a photo of Bolsonaro during the visit. Failure to comply, de Moraes ruled, would result in Bolsonaro’s imprisonment. De Moraes issued the house arrest order one day after followers of the former president gathered across 62 Brazilian cities on Sunday to peacefully protest against de Moraes and radical leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

DHS added Israel provision for funding grants in April | 5 April 2025 | The Department of Homeland Security has confirmed to Just the News that the agency added a contentious provision to its terms and conditions requiring that funding recipients not support boycotts of Israeli companies in April 2025. A Reuters report on Monday stated that the Trump administration had linked 1.9 billion in disaster aid to the Israel requirement, leading to widespread outcry. DHS on Monday stated that the Federal Emergency Management Agency did not include any requirements related to Israel in its notices of funding opportunities (NOFO). “There is NO FEMA requirement tied to Israel in any current NOFO. No states have lost funding, and no new conditions have been imposed,” DHS posted on X. “FEMA grants remain governed by existing law and policy and not political litmus tests. DHS will enforce all anti-discrimination laws and policies, including as it relates to the BDS movement, which is expressly grounded in antisemitism. Those who engage in racial discrimination should not receive a single d-llar of federal funding.”
U.S. reverses pledge to link disaster funds to Israel boycott stance | 4 Aug 2025 | The Trump administration on Monday reversed course on requiring U.S. cities and states to rebuke boycotts of Israeli companies in order to receive disaster funds, according to a statement, and deleted the earlier policy from its website. The Department of Homeland Security removed its statement, opens new tab that said states must certify they will not sever “commercial relations specifically with Israeli companies” to qualify for the funding. Reuters reported on Monday that the language applied to at least 1.9 billion that states rely on to cover search-and-rescue equipment, emergency manager salaries and backup power systems, among other expenses, according to 11 agency grant notices reviewed by Reuters. This is a shift for the administration of President Donald Trump, which has previously tried to penalize institutions that don’t align with its views on Israel or anti-Semitism. [Previous version of article: U.S. states, cities that boycott Israeli companies to be denied federal aid for natural disaster preparedness, Trump administration says | 4 Aug 2025 | U.S. states and cities that boycott Israeli companies will be denied federal aid for natural disaster preparedness, the Trump administration has announced, tying routine federal funding to its political stance. New memos expose Homeland Security’s concerns about Tim Walz CCP connections | 4 Aug 2025 | Newly released internal memos confirm the Department of Homeland Security and FBI had longstanding concerns about Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and his connections to the Chinese Communist Party, especially after he was selected by Vice President [sic] Kamala Harris as her presidential running mate last year. Homeland Security turned over the documents to watchdog group Judicial Watch, which had filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and sued the government earlier this year, seeking communications in an agency group chat that allegedly referenced the probe into Walz. The existence of those messages was shared with the House Oversight Committee last year by whistleblowers, but the Biden-era DHS resisted turning over responsive documents. “China is happy,” one Homeland Security employee wrote in an explosive message to the group chat called “NST NFT Bi-Weekly Sync” on August 7, 2024, one day after Harris announced Walz as her running mate, the memos show.
