Capt. William “Mac” Harkin was relieved of command of the squadron by Rear Adm. Erik Eslich, the leader of the Carrier Strike Group 12, the Navy said Saturday. Capt. James Von St. Paul will take over Harkin’s duties with Destroyer Squadron 2 and Harkin will temporarily work on the staff of the Naval Surface Force Atlantic’s commander… The Navy removed 16 commanding officers last year, and a “loss of confidence” was given as the reasoning behind relieving 14 of them.

5.5 Tons of Fukushima Radioactive Water Leaks Into Pacific Ocean –The Japanese plant has been generating a massive amount of water tainted with radioactive substances from cooling down the nuclear fuel in the reactor buildings. | 7 Feb 2024 | On Wednesday, Fukushima Central Television reported that approximately 5.5 tons of water containing radioactive materials have leaked from an equipment at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. At about 8:53 a.m., workers discovered water leaking from the outlet of a device used to purify nuclear-contaminated water during the inspection of the equipment, the local TV reported, citing the plant’s operator Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). The amount of water that leaked was approximately 5.5 tons, which may contain 22 billion becquerels of radioactive materials such as cesium and strontium. Most of the leaked water appeared to have seeped into the soil, but monitoring of a nearby drainage channel did not show any significant radiation level changes. TEPCO has made the area where the water was leaked a no-go area.

Meta Considering Increased Censorship of the Word ‘Zionist’ | 8 Feb 2024 | Facebook and Instagram’s parent company, Meta, is contemplating stricter rules around discussing Israeli nationalism on its platforms, a major policy change that could stifle criticism and free expression about the war in Gaza and beyond, five civil society sources who were briefed on the potential change told The Intercept. “Meta is currently revisiting its hate speech policy, specifically in relation to the term ‘Zionist,'” reads a January 30 email sent to civil society groups by Meta policy personnel and reviewed by The Intercept…  In the months since October 7, staunchly pro-Israel groups like the Anti-Defamation League have openly called for treating anti-Zionism as a form of antisemitism, pointing out that the word is often used by antisemites as a stand-in for “Jew.” The ADL and American Jewish Committee, another pro-Israel, Zionist advocacy group in the U.S., have both been lobbying Meta to restrict use of the word “Zionist,” according to Yasmine Taeb, legislative and political director at the Muslim grassroots advocacy group MPower Change.  

Passenger dies mid-flight after ‘litres of blood’ shoot out of his nose and mouth all over the interior of the plane on flight from Bangkok to Germany | 9 Feb 2024 | Horrified air passengers screamed and were left “traumatised” yesterday when a German husband started coughing up “litres of blood” in front of his wife before collapsing and dying mid-flight. The 63-year-old traveller, who has not been named, was said to have boarded the Lufthansa flight from Bangkok to Munich visibly ill before his condition rapidly deteriorated. “It was absolute horror, everyone was screaming,” fellow passenger Martin Missfelder, 53, from Zurich, Switzerland, told Swiss outlet Blick. The man – who was travelling with his Filipina wife – had got on with “cold sweats” and was “breathing much too quickly” before passengers rushed to help him, offering chamomile tea and taking his pulse. But as the plane took off, his health went quickly downhill. The man was said to have been spitting into a bag when a “gush of blood” came out of his mouth and nose, splattering the walls of the Airbus A380 aircraft.

Those records included classified documents about military and foreign policy in Afghanistan, among other records related to national security and foreign policy which Hur said implicated “sensitive intelligence sources and methods.” Hur, though, described Biden as a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” Fox News Digital obtained a letter Tenney, R-N.Y., sent to Attorney General Garland Thursday night, sharing her “grave concerns” following the report. “After concluding that President Biden knowingly and willfully removed, mishandled, and disclosed classified documents repeatedly over a period of decades, Mr. Hur nevertheless recommended that charges not be brought against him,” Tenney wrote. “Special Counsel’s reasoning was alarming.”

Biden said that the late German Chancellor Kohl asked him what he would say if he learned 1,000 people stormed the British Parliament in an attempt to deny the next prime minister from taking office.

Thousands of migrants in NY quietly collecting ‘welfare’ through Hochul rule change | 10 Feb 2024 | The Hochul administration is quietly using taxpayer d-llars to give c-sh p-yments to thousands of migrants who don’t qualify for typical welfare assistance, The Post has learned. It was made possible by the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance modifying its “Safety Net Assistance” program’s eligibility rules in May to include non-citizens with pending applications for legal asylum status. The announcement was made through an under-the-radar message the agency sent out to social services agencies across the state. The OTDA declined to reveal how many migrants have received SNA checks, but estimates that 90% of New York’s current migrant population won’t see additional benefits under the rule change.

‘Armed and dangerous’ teen migrant from Venezuela arrested over chaotic Times Square shooting that injured tourist | 9 Feb 2024 | Authorities on Friday nabbed a 15-year-old migrant suspected of shooting a tourist and firing at cops in Times Square, law enforcement sources said. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Recovery Task Force took the Venezuelan teen into custody in Yonkers at around 3:30 p.m., according to the sources. It came just moments after NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell identified Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa as the “armed and dangerous” person of interest in connection with the chaotic incident at the Crossroads of the World Thursday night. He arrived in New York from Venezuela in September and has been staying at a temporary shelter at the Stratford Hotel on West 70th Street, Chell said. He is also a suspect in an armed robbery in the Bronx from January 27, and another incident in which shots were fired in Midtown, the police official said.
