An April 19 drug-related fight in a South Main Street, Barre apartment building led to arrests, the evacuation of the building, and the students not being dismissed from Barre schools on time.
Barre police say that at about 2 PM the Barre City Police Department received a call of a disturbance at an apartment building at 46 South Main Street where it was reported two males were fighting. Upon arrival, officers were informed that one of the males had a rifle and had potentially retreated to the basement of the building while another group of males were reported to be hiding in a stairwell in the upstairs area of the building.
Apartments within the building were evacuated while the building was being secured and searched. As a precaution, nearby Spaulding High School and Barre City Elementary and Middle School were asked to not immediately release students for after school dismissal.
The basement area was searched and found to be empty. Four males were located in an upstairs stairwell. Officers seized 87.16 grams of crack cocaine, 22.5 grams of fentanyl, several thousand dollars in cash, a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 style rifle during the incident.
Officers with the Barre Town Police Department, Berlin Police Department and Vermont State Police assisted.
One of the four males was found to be a 15-year-old missing juvenile out of Springfield, MA who was subsequently released to his parents pending a later court date. Two of the males could not be positively identified but provided names of Lamaar Saint and Manuel Rogers. The fourth male was identified as 23-year-old Joseph Maitin of Middletown, NY.
Maitin, Saint, and Rogers were all lodged at the Northeast Correctional Center in lieu of $200,000 bail pending arraignment on April 22 in Washington County Superior Court. The four males are being charged with fentanyl trafficking, sale of cocaine, dispensing out of a dwelling, and possession of a regulated drug. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone else beginning to see a pattern here?
Yes, it’s always someone from MA or NY, who don’t appear to have relocated here for the purposes of a career move…unless of course operating an illegal drug trafficking operation is considered a career move.
Not the Barre I grew up in, in the 40’s to 60’s.
But, but, but diversity and inclusivity is wonderous for society and Vermont culture. Isn’t it?
You’re a racist
But your drug war works wonders for society and Vermont culture. We mustn’t let the white coats take jobs from these lovely entrepreneurs. This is what you support, so embrace it.
Yes, we need more low-income housing, because this is what it brings……………….
“They were good boys, they were very good boys.” said all of their grandmothers.
Will the perps be held accountable or get to enter the revolving door of the V.S.R. Washington County Criminal Court Division?
just another day at the vermont zoo/// more tourists from new york and mass. bringing goods and services to down and out vermonters///
Are the guns being traced? Will the men be charged with gun crimes? Oftentimes, the gun violations aren’t charged or get dropped. I am an FFL and 2nd Amendment/Article 16 activist. We just had a seminar at the Barre Aud with the ATF where programs the gun dealers promote and use, i.e.”Don’t Lie for the Other Guy”, were discussed. We need to have the criminals charged and sentenced for gun crimes to help make it less attractive to use a gun in the commission of a crime or buy a gun for a criminal.
The sportsmen/women would wholeheartedly support MANDATORY sentences for using a gun while committing a crime or stealing a gun or being in possession of a stolen gun. That is the only way we are going slow down the gun violence.
Sorry, gun violations and new restrictions will only be imposed on the otherwise law-abiding. These individuals are victims of widespread societal marginalization and systemic racism in our justice system and are immunized. Their guns are not weapons…they are shields!
Exactly! When I read the charges all I could think about was “WHAT ABOUT THE GUN”? Let them decide who among then is going to take the “GUN possession” in relation to felony charge. IF, they don’t try, (along with their public defender), to pin it on the juvenile.
Unfortunately, only one apartment building of many in the Barre City region housing the same residential businesses – no permits needed. Considering the amount of poison found in that one unit, can we imagine the amounts available in all of our communities? Is the Administration seizing any of this untapped revenue flowing in our neighborhoods? When these busts go down, is the property and assets seized? What happens post-bust to the drugs, guns, and property? It is a big business here and likely the biggest of all – our real GDP.
I sure wish these drug gangs coming here from out of state were more inclusive.
LOL
They need a DEI commissioner to help them examine their unconscious biases.
Yes, it must be just more evidence of Vermont’s police bias on display. Can’t we do away with the mugshots?…it makes some people feel uncomfortable and invalidates slogans like: “diversity is our strength”.
Yeah, it’s just so awkward, you know?
if there were no vermont buyers and users/// there would be no out of state sellers/// lets clean out our own back yard first//////////
Judge them by the “content of their character”.
Drug dealing is not a regulated private enterprise in the USA. No red tape, no biz license, no tax filing, no minimum wage, no employee records, no withholding taxes, no paid sick days, no paid maternity leaves, etc, etc. Now and then, a few get busted. Probably the odds are great that they don’t. What’s not to like about it? Even if they get caught, it’s 3 hots and a cot, and free medical and dental.
Are Vermont towns totally powerless to do anything about people from states to the south only there to cause harm? How about when you see cars with Mass/CT/NY license plates nowhere near a ski resort or tourist attraction or college campus you try to find what they’re up to.
Vermont is run by liberals and they have decided for us all that any kind of stereotyping or profiling is a human rights infringement. This has invalidated good “police intuition”.
We all know who is causing the problems…we just are not allowed to discuss it. It might make some people feel bad. Death by drugs and the associated violence is considered a small price to pay for people not feeling bad.
of course we are allowed to discuss it, within parameters, and I hope people will. Vermont targeted by urban gangs. It must stop
Just take a ride through Barre or any other small town or city in Vermont. The streets are lined with empty store fronts. Barre has at least 14 visible on Main St. No one can start a small business and keep it going due to the red tape, restrictions, fees, taxes and astronomical rent also caused by the same. Vermont is well into decline.
Our leadership is comprised of lobbyist representatives and the state is broke. According to them, the planet is in trouble post heist. News flash for the compromised legislature, Vermont is in trouble. While they chase windmills and plastic solar panels, waste taxpayer money on progressive nonsense Vermont dies.
Hopelessness, homelessness, no place to be employed and a section 8 welfare state policies are supporting drug dens in which the criminal elements from down country apply their poisonous trade. All of this is caused by the wrong policies. The deep ideological progressive cult will only get worse until the voters change the direction of this state.
Decades of progressive policies have brought Vermont to the brink of big city criminality. Illegal guns possessed by felons, caches of poison and murder brought here by diversity and inclusion and the legislature blames the law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners. You get what you vote for, and this is what the Vermont voters have brought to Vermont.
The definition of crazy is the majority of the VT voters. 112,000 of us didn’t vote for any of this. Those of you who voted progressive don’t blame us, just look in the mirror.
the whole country is in the same condition as vermont/// i have watched videos from all over this country and you will find towns and cities with huge amounts of empty buildings/// watch what is happening in new york city/// you do not want this in your town///
