On April 20, the Vermont Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) hosted student-athletes from Norwich, Castleton, and other local schools at Norwich University’s White Memorial Chapel.
About 150 college-aged, student-athletes gathered on this Saturday night to worship together. The event began with praise music, led by student-athlete band (Maddox Reed, Nate Dito, Molly Crawford, Noah Kwizera), singers (Kate Desautels, Maciel Mora, and Gia Cope), and sound technician (Tate Oppenheim).

Throughout the worship service, several students addressed the group and shared how Jesus Christ had changed the purpose and direction of their lives. Following, Ian Millard spoke about the special love that he has for his adopted children, and reminded all in attendance that they, by placing their faith in God’s Son, are likewise adopted and loved as sons and daughters by God Almighty.
Ian then invited the students to accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus, and to surrender to God’s will for their lives.

Indeed, one common theme sung and talked about throughout the evening was “surrender” – how Jesus calls His followers to trust in Him, for He is the Good Shepherd and offers rest to the weary. Students remarked how timely this reminder was, each bearing their own unique set of life’s difficulties.
The event coordinator, Maddox Reed, had this to say about the night’s success:
“Three weeks before the event, some of the students, staff, and parents began praying over this event. As the date got closer we had people from over a dozen states praying with us that that God would bless this event. As the event concluded, it was absolutely clear that He did.”

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes would like to invite anyone interested to participate in future events. 2024 summer camps, staff, volunteer, and financial support opportunities across Vermont can all be found at fcavermont.org.

It is WONDERFUL to see this gathering of Christian young people and athletes in the midst of the unrest and misguided protests on other major university campuses. It is also refreshing to hear of the prayer support for the event, and
even that it was allowed to be held ! May this event prompt us to follow their
courage and example to invite the Lord to into our lives, towns and campuses.
Norwich University is and has always been a private institution. It can host any event it wishes to have on campus.
