Class on social movements and protest requires students to highlight work of Palestinian social movements, no equal time for Jewish, Israeli movements

by Parents Defending Education
Parents Defending Education has received documents via public records requested by Parents detailing the curriculum for Champlain Valley School District’s class focused on social justice and protest.
The class, entitled “U.S. and the Modern World: Social Movements and Protest,” focuses on a variety of political events and social movements from the 1940s through the present, and with an understanding that “racial, class, religious, and gender inequalities have played a significant role in both US and World history” and “’Declension’ after progress has been a common theme in US history.” The class is listed in Champlain Valley Union High School’s 2023-2024 course catalog. It is available as an elective for juniors and seniors.
A unit of the course is spent discussing Palestinian social movements against Israel. The unit begins with a video detailing the history of Palestinian uprisings against Israel and declares, “Until…Israel ends its occupation, we will continue to see Palestinians struggle for their rights on our screens.”

The curriculum plan also suggests teaching about the “Palestinian Youth Movement,” linking to the organization’s website. Statements on the organization’s website commend the Democratic Socialists of America’s 2023 convention and urge them to adopt an organization-wide stance of anti-Zionism to combat “a U.S.-backed fascist regime of colonial occupation, ethnic cleansing, siege, statelessness, repression, surveillance and censorship.”
Recent Instagram posts for the organization display protests shutting down major freeways, proclamations of “from the river to the sea,” and the claim that “an end to the military operation and to the regime of Zionism across all our lands is the precondition for peace in Palestine—without the fall of Zionism there can never be a lasting peace.”

Another suggested social movement to discuss with students is the “Palestine Campaign,” which blames Israel for the events of October 7th, saying in a statement on their website, “An offensive launched from Gaza can only be understood in the context of Israel’s ongoing military occupation and colonization of Palestinian land, and imposition of a system that meets the legal definition of apartheid.” The statement goes on to accuse Israel of apartheid by “enacting a system of rule designed to sustain a Jewish majority.”
The summative assignment for the unit is for students to “create a pamphlet highlighting the work of Palestinian social movements.”
No Israeli or Jewish perspectives or social movements are presented to students for inclusion in the assignment.

As I keep saying and now we have even more examples: No school choice when the subjects are the same from place to place. This is one of the “better” schools in Vermont . None of this has to do with education, just indoctrination and We The Citizens of Vermont are paying for it. Or as SOME say, private people only are, because “they” have a choice. SOME people think that changing schools will make this better , it will not . The subjects discussed are not for learning how to read , write or do math and is an absolute affront to GOD. Wake up people.
This is a trend that has been going on for too long.
When will you have had enough?
Re: “No school choice when the subjects are the same from place to place. This is one of the “better” schools in Vermont.”
Champlain Valley School District schools are mere cogs in the wheel of the public education monopoly. ‘Better’ is in the eye of the beholder. IMHO there’s nothing ‘better’ about CV schools. They have some of the lowest academic performance rankings in the State. Nearly 80% of CV 9th grade students don’t meet grade level standards.
There are dozens of independent schools in the neighborhood that aren’t beholden to CV public school dogma. And no two of these independent are the same. With School Choice, parents could choose the best school for their children.
The above referenced performance evaluations are based on the latest 2021 Agency of Education Smarter Balance test statistics. Curiously, I just read the the U.S. News exemplary ranking for the CV high school. How they come up with their numbers can not be explained.
Here are the AoE 2021 data for PS066 CHAMPLAIN VALLEY UHS #15.
SB English Language Arts Grade 09 Total Proficient and Above All Students 54.50%
SB Math Grade 09 Total Proficient and Above All Students
30.00%
Upon closer evaluation of the Agency of Education numbers, it appears that the ‘Total Proficient and Above’ cohort includes those students ‘partially proficient’.
The listing for Proficient is as follows.
SB English Language Arts Grade 09 Proficient All Students 32.80%
SB Math Grade 09 Proficient All Students 20.00%
In any case, it’s anything but stellar performance.
Can I say “Lord, forgive them for they know not what they do”?
It comes as no surprise the Champlain Valley District and probably others are promoting this ideology. I’d like to see a survey of the educational background for Vermont’s educators, including those involved on the state level. I bet the survey would be an accurate predictor of how many have been indoctrinated in the Marxist/globalist ideas which have been promoted under the radar for many years. I’d say the indoctrination has been very successful at producing the current crop of philosophical acolytes who don’t have a clue about our founding documents, to the detriment of our nation.
No, you cannot. They know EXACTLY What they do.
It’s a government school, to which is Marxist and fed by the NWO….so don’t be surprised.
If you study about subverting a country, taking it over from within, the major push is to take over education and change the minds of an entire generation, in this case we haven’t just been dealing with this for 20 years, but 40 years…2 generations.
Everyone likes to screw with the kids, take notice. Of course when mom and dad drink the same cool aid, their job is pretty well done. They have for many purposes subverted a country.
And this is why nobody in our state knows the difference between a Republic and Democracy…..but those in the older crowd are often well versed in the difference. The older crowd missed the indoctrination camps.
Will say they are very expensive camps.
they are really political indoctrination camps……which is why they don’t want any other choices. It’s about power and money….your tax dollars and power over your children.
This goes to show that ” Indoctrination ” is the main subject in our public schools, and we let it happen !! Time for new leadership in our education system………………………..

I agree with most of the comments here. I will just add a bit more. BTW-I’m from the “older” group. I cannot divulge the whole story because I still live where I grew up-in a small town. I’m now surrounded by the “younger” generation. Anyway-a certain person who had “part time” family near me and my parents. This person attended one of the prestigious colleges back in the early 40s, and when the person returned to Vt., he/she started inviting many of the college friends to take up residence in our small town. Most were-initially- only here during the summer, better know back then as “summer folks”. I was young back then, but all of this, incl. politics, was openly discussed in my home, and I understood. So much so that I often asked why these “educated” people would want to live under such a regime? I’m still asking that question MANY years later, and it’s only gotten worse. I am now tagged as “one of those” by the younger ones, and I’m proud of it!! Actually, a couple of them have attempted to open up the discussion, albeit snidely. At least they know where I stand. I hope you all understand why I have to remain a bit vague here, which is also scarry.
As Hinesburg is part of The People’s Socialist Republic of Chittenden County this does not surprise me. Our formerly conservative leaders have been “boiled like frogs”; they tried to play nice and trusted these people. It doesn’t work against the socialists taking over our state and country.
Remove the teacher, remove the curriculum, remove the administrator that tolerated this. This is a very complicated subject with enormous consequences. You can’t just pick a side. Disgraceful!
Also time to take down their BLM flag while they are at it (BLM is openly pro-Hamas).
Given our civic acquiescence we have been conscripted as collaborates in our community’s failed attempt to “educate” the citizenry. What’s been foisted upon us is a self serving monopoly driven by squabbling agendanistas. It has us believing that the support of schooling organizations and their infrastructure is “education” as opposed to support of actual learners…the kids. This disappointing organization is not functioning under any consensus from us and yearly drains evermore of our resources. Wouldn’t we be better off getting out of this arena? Privatize it. Turn the resources over to families. They can hire teachers for whatever curriculum services they want.
Thankfully it’s only an elective class.
This school is garbage, like most public high schools in VT. The only reason they test well is because their student body comes from white, two parent homes, both went to college, at least one played a sport and they got money, lots of it. It’s Cow Valley Union no longer. The virtue signaling and ignorance never ends. Show the students the video of Gazans celebrating the 9/11 attacks. Have them explore the Muslim religion and how they feel about our beloved LGB community. Teach them how the women are equals in Gaza and can do anything they want in life. It’s all the opposite of what they profess to believe in. The facts don’t matter to them, only if it’s in fashion.
