A Waitsfield man was cited for driving under the influence after crashing into two residential structures early Sunday morning, according to Vermont State Police.
Troopers were called to Main Street at 12:42 AM on Nov. 23 for a report of a vehicle that had struck a house. Police say their investigation determined that the driver, Eric McCarthy, had been traveling along Main Street when his vehicle left the roadway, hit part of one building, and then continued into the gable end of a second, separate residence.
State Police said McCarthy showed signs of impairment at the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI and negligent operation. No information was released about injuries, and police did not specify the extent of damage to the structures.
McCarthy was later released with a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court–Criminal Division.
The crash remains under investigation.

You can’t park there…
He found a way.
😂🤣
airborne?
Seems to have missed the class on alcohol and driving not doing well together.
My guess he will be back again somewhere down the road.
He was drunk so he most likely tried to drive between the two houses that he saw. Maybe the house jumped out in front of him, you just never know. Ha Ha Ha
Not funny. It could have been children or other people who were in front of his car.
And the fact that our courts continue to assess ineffective penalties for DUI #2, 3, 4, and 5—I’ve seen several of these in Lamoille County—is egregious. The judges who fail to hand down stern sentences for these repeat drunk drivers ought to be seen as culpable for their part in endangering public safety.
I didn’t say the accident was funny, I meant the excuses people use for driving drunk are funny. You are right, thank God that no one inside the house was killed. Sorry I didn’t make that distinction.
