Canadian tourists are not coming back

“Between 2024 and 2025, almost 3.6 million fewer travellers from Canada and 4.2 million from Mexico visited New York, a decline of more than 21% and 2.2%, respectively,” reports via the National Post.

The data comes from a report produced by the New York Comptroller who found the decline was particularly detrimental to New York’s border towns.

One state to the east, it’s largely the same, if proportionally smaller, story.

In January 2026, Vermont border crossings were 10.8% fewer than in January 2025 the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development reports.

That dovetails with data that shows fewer Canadian visitors returning to Canada via automobile at all border crossings (not just Vermont): “In January 2026, Canadian residents ‘ return trips decreased by 28.8% compared to January 2025.”

And in New Hampshire, a February report from New Hampshire Bulletin showed that small inns and hotels were bearing the brunt of a reduction of Canadian tourists.

“The decline in Canadian visitation resulted in a 15% revenue drop at [Meredith’s] Nutmeg Inn year-over-year from 2024 to 2025.”

The chart below, via VT ACCD, shows the decrease in credit card spending by Canadian cardholders in Vermont with updated tallies for January and February 2026.

  1. the $1.40/$0.71 exchange rate, state sales taxes and credit card extra fees make Canadians prices more than $1.50 for every dollar they spend here; add to that Trump’s stupid statement about the 51st state…

    • News today, after the deadline on voluntary surrender ended yesterday, facing mandatory firearm confiscation for all guns, Saskatchewan and Alberta are going to seek joining the US as States. According to a Canadian attorney

  2. After events the last few days here in ‘the States’ would not be surprised if Dems here and coordinating with Ottawa Government to discourage tourism here

  3. I’m sorry this is a stupid article, and they are never coming back? Doesn’t even address the claim which is a scare tactic. Wayne addresses the problem immediately, the exchange rate!!!!!!!

If the rates were the opposite we’d have a flood of Canadians.

And judging from the lunatic fringe ruining Canada, most will decide being the 51st state was the best idea yet, hopefully before the country is completely subverted by Marxism.
