St. Paul St. drug bust/ Teen charged after gunfire incident / Brooklyn man arrested after car chase

In separate incidents this week, the Burlington Police Department reports a drug distribution bust, an unlawful gunfire incident and a man arrested after a car chase. 

St. Paul Street drug bust – At about 6 AM Friday, January 19, officers from the Burlington Police Department Emergency Response Unit executed a search warrant at 195 St. Paul Street regarding an ongoing drug investigation. Jahking Allah, 44, of Quaker Hill, Connecticut, was taken into custody related to drug offenses. The search of the residence yielded multiple firearms and evidence of drug distribution.

The BPD would like extend their gratitude to the Drug Enforcement Administration for their assistance in the investigation and multiple members of the community who communicated to the BPD their concerns about this address. On January 18, at about 8:56 PM, BPD officers responded to a report of a gunshot being fired at the 500 block on Pine Street.

Officers found a negligent round had been fired inside an apartment building. No person is known to have been struck. The suspect was later identified as Jaidyn Lafond, 19, of Burlington. Officers made contact with Lafond. 

Lafond was issued a citation to appear in court January 25 for the charge of Reckless Endangerment. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.

Brooklyn man nabbed after car chase – At about 2 AM January 17, dispatchers aired a Be On the Lookout (BOL) for a vehicle that fled from South Burlington Police. The vehicle was described as a dark gray Honda sedan and was last seen fleeing from Shelburne Street.

A short time later, around 2:10am, a BPD officer observed tracks in the snow on the traffic circle at Locust Street. The officer continued to canvas the area and located a dark colored sedan. 

The officer gave orders to the operator, but the operator fled the scene. Other BPD officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued to flee in the Shelburne/Locust Street area, where it crashed. 

The operator of the vehicle was later identified as Ron Thomas, 21, of Brooklyn, NY. Thomas refused to exit the vehicle and resisted officers. A BPD officer sustained a minor injury while taking Thomas into custody. A handgun was recovered from the vehicle. Thomas was taken into custody and lodged on a $5,000 bail.

  2. I’m sure the Brooklyn man was doing good things in Burlington, probably serving food to the homeless or something.

  3. Why the blackout on arrest photos and an associated address? Recognising criminals is the first step in avoiding them.

    Any bets the handgun Brooklyn, visitor Ron Thomas was in possession of was stolen? Yet no mention of charges. Maybe a longer waiting period would have helped?
