Burlington Police reported on October 23 they had arrested Patrick Ibbotson, 38, that day for two burglaries and violating his conditions of release by trespassing.

Early afternoon on Oct 24, BPD issued this update: On October 23, 2024, Patrick Ibbotson was arraigned and released on conditions. Currently, Ibbotson has 34 sets of active conditions of release.

A few hours after Ibbotson was released from court for burglarizing an establishment on Battery Street, Ibbotson returned to the same establishment and burglarized it again.

On October 24, 2024, Ibbotson was located in Burlington, arrested, and transported to court for arraignment.

Update of the Update: On October 24, 2024, Patrick Ibbotson was arraigned and released. Ibbotson’s 34 sets of active conditions remain in effect. He is expected at court on November 22, 2024.

The Burlington Police Department would like to thank the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with Ibbotson’s arrest.

Ibbotson had been recently released from jail on September 26, having been incarcerated for numerous incidents in Burlington and Williston. Among other alleged incidents, he trespassed and threatened parishioners at St. Joseph’s Cathedral and the United Methodist Church on Buell St.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.

Ibbotson is yet another “mega-offender” with a lengthy rap sheet. He has racked up over 270 police incidents since June 2016 alone.

Due to the policies of progressive politicians such as Sarah George, the Chittenden County State’s Attorney, people like Ibbotson are sent to the courthouse only to be returned to the street the following day, sometimes the same day.

Ibbotson’s criminal history includes:

5 failures to appear

3 violations of court order or conditions charges

10 misdemeanor charges

1 assaultive charge

Trailer Theft in Wells River

Police say a homeless man broke into a trailer and stole a truck in the early hours of October 20.

Police first arrived at the stolen, crashed trailer scene and were later informed of the Chevy Silverado that was stolen from Undercover Tents LLC.

Later, New Hampshire police found the trailer had crashed across the border in NH. David Gilmore, 46, was taken into custody for the incident on charges of Grand Larceny and Possession of Methamphetamine, among other charges. Additionally, the Silverado was located at Bradford Elementary School.

Police also determined that Gilmore had stolen lumber from Oakes Brothers in Bradford, merchandise from Farmway in Bradford, and additional property from Undercover Tents LLC. Gilmore was also found to have an active instate warrant for his arrest.

He is currently at Northeast Regional Correctional on $10,000 bail.

Historic Burlington house catches fire

The historic Fisher House on Main St. caught fire late October 22. The Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to 308 Main St. after heavy fire was seen on a porch roof and extending to the upper floors.

Nobody was inside the building at the time. The fire was contained to the building of origin, and no surrounding structures were damaged.

The building, built in 1888 and named after its architect, consisted of eight apartments from which all residents were displaced due to the fire and water damage.

This incident involved off-duty Burlington Firefighters and fire crews from South Burlington, Colchester, Winooski, VTANG, and UVM Rescue.

The Burlington Fire Marshal’s office is conducting an investigation on the cause of this fire.

  1. Crime is big business and look at all the people on the payment system. This is Vermont new economy.

  2. This is outrageous and ridiculous.

We need new legislation which mandates that if an offender gets arrested more than once in a week and/or more than twice in a month, he automatically goes to jail with a $50K cash bail. Unless he can post bail, he stays in jail until such time as he stands trial for violating conditions of release, violation of probation, or violation of parole.

I know that the state’s attorney of Lamoille County, LEOs, parole officers, some Republican legislators, and some citizens want this.

These serial offenders do not improve with taps on the wrist; they only get worse until you end up with serial arrestee/offender/felons such as Josh Simpson, who nearly killed a mom when he smashed head-on into her while in a stolen car trying to obtain drugs; and Teddy Farnham, who has eleven felony convictions and 533 police engagements, who murdered Richard Cote.

We need the collective will in Vermont to overcome this mass stupidity in our criminal legal system. And as citizens and voters and taxpayers, we have to initiate radical change in this from, because our wussified legislators sure as heck don’t care enough to create new legislation with sharp teeth in it.

    • It will not happen. It’s not on their agenda. Their agenda is to destroy our culture and way of life until we beg for them to come in with their police state to protect us. To protect us they will completely take over. They will keep putting these criminals and violent mental defectives back on the street. We have Communists running this state.

    • Unfortunately, the law says cash bail can’t be so high that the accused has no hope of ever coming up with it. Certainly, $50k in this case would keep Patrick in prison until his trial comes up. Unless of course some lefty organization bails him out, but that’s another story for another time.

Think about it. If excessive bail were legal, what’s to keep the Dept of InJustice (for example) from arresting every perceived enemy from Catholics to gun owners to protestors, getting excessive bail from some judge in the bag, and keeping their enemies in prison infinitely (in theory)?

THEY might love this idea, but WE shouldn’t. That would make us no better than them. We may be tough on criminals, we may not release them over and over again to commit more and more crimes, but we DO respect due and fair process. As we should.

Look, the pendulum swings back and forth, and now it finally seems to be swinging our way. Let’s see what happens in a couple of weeks. Yeah, we live in Vermont, but at least in theory, we’re still bound by laws that affect the entire country.

  4. We need to remembers that lawfulness to manage out more privative instincts is what restrains our vigilantly responses…best to use the laws to forstal out seeking our own solutions, don’t you think?

  5. Patrick is, by default and misfortune, the poster child for Dem/Prog policies. He is the face representing the Vermont Judiciary, Legislature, Administration, and countless, hapless, woefully ignorant bureaucrats. He is the Vermont Agency of Human Services. He is the Vermont Attorney General’s office. He is every non-profit, NGO installed to run and pilfer our money with no accountability whatsoever. The grifters own this as much as the “selected” officials.

Patrick, and many like him, is not a failure. The system he exists within is a disgraceful failure. Not only to him, but every resident of Vermont. Don’t expect it change by marking a ballot – they rigged it all to ensure more Patrick’s are running around stealing whatever the regime doesn’t steal off the top.

  6. I know Patrick, mainly through another person. I have had some personal experience with him. He is a very angry and stubborn person, angry at his parents, his father is an attorney in Texas, angry at how he got here in life, angry at being homeless, angry at the Catholic Church which has tried to help him, and angry at how the street treats him. He used to have a good job only a few years ago. He has made bad decisions. He wants to be imprisoned as he feels safe there. He has been in mental institutions before. He has sustained beatings from others. He is going to keep breaking the law, as often as possible until he is confined. Lots of good, wise and skilled people have counseled him. But he won’t stop until he is confined. He is determined. And he is showing how ineffective and feckless Vermont Justice can be as he gives all the finger while laughing at us with a derisive contempt.
