A Burlington man has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary at the Cambridge Village Market late last month, according to Vermont State Police.
Police say the burglary occurred on November 28, at about 12:57 a.m. at the Cambridge Village Market on South Main Street in Cambridge. Following an investigation, troopers developed probable cause that Ian Gardner, 39, of Burlington committed the offenses of burglary, grand larceny, unlawful mischief and possession of stolen property.
This isn’t Gardner’s first brush with the law. For example, in 2021 he walked into a Burlington store, threatened the clerk with a knife, and walked off with stolen property, according to police via a media report.
On December 11, troopers executed a search warrant at Gardner’s Burlington residence, where they located evidence related to the burglary along with items reported stolen from the store.
State police also determined that Gardner had an active in-state warrant issued by the Vermont Department of Corrections. Troopers worked with local law enforcement agencies to locate him, and on the morning of December 12, Gardner was identified as a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop in Williston. He was taken into custody without incident.
Gardner was later lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility, where he is being held on the correctional warrant. He was issued a citation to appear in Lamoille County Superior Court on December 15, at 12:30 p.m. to answer to the charges.
