The Burlington Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in a string of early morning robberies at Jake’s ONE Market on North Winooski Avenue.

The same male suspect is believed to have robbed the store on three separate occasions — May 19, June 11, and July 6 — using threats that he was armed, though no weapon has been visibly displayed. Investigators say the robberies appear to follow a similar pattern and may involve a second individual.

In the first incident on May 19, 2025, at approximately 8:23 a.m., the suspect entered the store and handed a note to the employee at the register. The note threatened that the suspect had a weapon. The employee complied, handing over approximately $170 in cash before the suspect fled on foot.

On June 11, at around 8:38 a.m., the same man returned to the store and made a direct verbal threat to the cashier, reportedly saying, “Open the register, I have a firearm.” He fled with approximately $197 in U.S. currency. Witnesses believe the suspect may have handed the money off to a second male waiting nearby, suggesting a possible accomplice.

The most recent incident occurred on July 6, just before 8 a.m., when the suspect again entered the store and told the employee, “Open the register, I have a weapon. I don’t wanna have to do anything — just please open the register.” The employee handed over $180, and the suspect fled. Investigators later recovered the sweatshirt and sweatpants the suspect discarded after the robbery.

In total, the suspect has taken approximately $547 across all three incidents.

The Burlington Police Department has transferred the case to its Detective Services Bureau, which is actively analyzing DNA, fingerprints, and video evidence collected from the scenes and recovered clothing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist in the identification of the suspect(s) to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704 or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s online tip portal.

“This kind of repeated criminal activity is a serious public safety concern,” the department said in a statement Monday. “We are asking for the community’s help to bring those responsible to justice.”

Surveillance footage or further suspect descriptions have not yet been released.

  1. i feel bad for them officer’s. even if they catch him , he’ll be out in a day and do it again.

  2. Ask any retailer in Chittenden county, this is completely normal.

Ever notice how everything is now locked up?

We have a massive crime problem in this state that nobody wants to talk about.

  3. I guess every junkie thief now knows an easy business to knock over with a simple threat. Vermont needs a change in our self-defense laws. If someone threatens to use a firearm on you, you should be justified in regarding that as an imminent threat of deadly force and be legally allowed to respond accordingly. These kind of cases of what the law regards as an armed robbery should be handled by the medical examiner, and leave the police and especially Chittenden County’s lame, ineffective State’s Attorney out of it. The recidivism rate for deceased criminals is ZERO PERCENT. For functionally illiterate progressives and democrats, that means there are no repeat offenses.
