In today’s Burlington Daily News:
The City Council punted Monday night on a complex zoning change allowing denser housing. “Let me be honest, it’s overwhelming,” says City Councilor Gene Bergman. “Anyone who would be in my situation who is not overwhelmed by the detail and the seriousness of this, is either an Einstein, or they’re fooling themselves and everybody else.” They’ll look at it again February 12.
Also, see BPD video on Community Service Officers, the unarmed, unsworn officers who respond to quality-of-life service calls and perform other vital duties.
And Karen Rowell advises the City Council it could find $1 million to reduce the city’s burdensome tax load just by cutting the diversity office, which was funded with one-time Covid-era federal revenue.

burlington is a house of cards/// one big lack of out side money and it will all blow down// looking forward for a windy day//
High-density housing is a common socialist/Communist practice. Vermont, a rural, bucolic state since its beginnings will deeply regret this push for all the reasons I’ve detailed in previous posts. Do NOT be fooled – this housing is NOT for you or yours, but for more homeless, indigent illegal aliens, the migrants VT has ordered to force “diversity”, and social service recipients with addiction & mental health disorders.
Have you been to downtown Burlington lately??? And you want more???
Leave Vermont Vermont!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When a person runs for City Council, isn’t it their campaign mantra to help solve problems facing the City? Gene is feeling overwhelmed trying to solve the problem he was elected to help solve? Here is a blurb of his bio from Digital Vermont: “Bergman speaks of attending the University of Vermont, occupying the ROTC building and getting arrested for blocking the Federal Building in Burlington in 1972, dropping out of college and becoming involved in People Acting for Change Together (PACT), a low-income advocacy group. He describes in great detail PACT’s involvement in low-income housing advocacy, welfare rights advocacy, and organizing a food co-op to aid low income Vermonters. He also speaks of the relationship between PACT and the Onion River Food Co-op.” Appears to me his history of community activism and social justice makes him more than capable and qualified to address and solve the housing issue? What up Buttercup?
