Airports in multiple states – including Leahy International Airport in Burlington – are refusing to run a video of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blaming the ongoing federal government shutdown on Democrats.
In the video, Noem said “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government” acknowledging the shutdown has affected operations, with many TSA employees working without pay.
“We will continue to do all that we can to avoid delays that will impact your travel. And our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government,” Noem said.
(Editor’s Note: ABC22/Fox 44 reports that a BVT Leahy Airport spokesperson emailed that the DHS video is not being played there: “As a publicly operated facility, the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport does not display content that could be perceived as political or partisan. The Department of Homeland Security video will not be shown on airport monitors.”)
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport both confirmed to Arizona Mirror that they are not displaying a video of Noem that was promoted by the White House as being played at “every public airport in America.”
Airport spokesman Ryan Smith said the video is not currently displayed at the airport due to the Mesa Gateway Airport Authority Board policy, which states that “(a)dvertising that discusses the topics or subjects of politics or religion, social society, or economics is prohibited.”
“Consistent with airport policy, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport declined to post the video,” Jon Brodsky, a spokesman for the state’s largest airport, said. Sky Harbor also has a policy that does not permit political content.
The Michigan Advance reports that spokespeople for both the Flint Bishop International Airport and Grand Rapids’ Gerald R. Ford International Airport confirmed Monday afternoon that they have not been playing the video.
Heidi Groenboom, communications and events associate for the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority said that as of Monday afternoon, they had not received the video and that it was not playing at the airport.
New Jersey Monitor reports that the region’s three largest airports will not air the video, saying not only does it violate a ban on political advertising but it also violates the federal Hatch Act, which prohibits federal workers from engaging in politics on the clock.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a bistate agency that oversees Newark Liberty, LaGuardia, and JFK airports, said airport-controlled screens will not play Noem’s video.
The 30-second spot violates the Port Authority’s longstanding policies that “prevent airing of politically partisan messages at our facilities,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

As a publicly operated facility, the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport does not display content that could be perceived as political or partisan. The Department of Homeland Security video will not be shown on airport monitors.”) in other words, our liberal airport will not be telling the truth in this blue state.
It is also true the majority of the Republican Party is intentionally blocking the reopening of the governmemt to forestall the House of Representatives from having to face an up or dsown vote on releasing the Epstein files. A video by Becca Balint about that ought to be given equal time with the Noem airport video.
Anyone feel the responsibility of any Administration official is to do their jobs on the People’s behalf (because we pay them to do so) rather than perform partisan political campaigning 24/7, 365 from their authority seats? There is no business like show business. Appears it is all performance art, all to the detriment of the American people and the destruction of our nation.
Are we actually electing competent, sane, leadership or are they simply beauty pagent winners, homecoming queens, and/or successfully completed their secret society ritual punch cards?
It’s called the ‘Bully Pulpit”. Democrats are exceptional at taking advantage of it, although it was perfected and named for Republican Teddy Roosevelt, spreading partisan information which is said to be Government content
Melissa, do you feel Kristi Noem is unqualified because of her looks? I hope that’s not what you are saying? At least she stood up during the plandemic, our Gov pushed the narrative.
Josh, there is no business like show business. Take a closer looks at the State of South Dakota – I wonder how it got the moniker “the Cayman Islands of the United States? Funny how her fellow governor neighbor in North Dakota nailed down an administration position as well. One of Phil’s besties – I’m sure as is well there regardless.
It has absolutley nothing to do with qualifications – it has everything to do with what donors demand and favors returned. The billionaires club runs the White House and the rest of them are cleaning up bigly. Take note of the crypto flash crash of October 10 – how did it happen? How did it coincide within hours/minutes of the President threatening China with tariffs? Some insider whale made out with $198,000,000? C’mon Man! Take a look at World Liberty Financial – a family run business and what is the Executive Club.vip?
If people would snap out their strong delusions, we might actually make some progress rather than believe all the lying, liars from Liarsville – on both sides of the fence – no honor among the vast, deep, den of thieves.
Will the airport try to stop people from watching it loudly on their phones or iPads?
Will the airport show Chuck Schumer apparently purporting violence by screaming for people to ‘Rise Up in the Streets’ to stop President Trump from creating peace?
Good point, Ron.
And if, Ron, they did show Chuck Schumer doing that, it would be a double standard but then we all know that if it wasn’t for double standards (or even triple, quadruple, etc) then Democrats would have no standards at all.
“As a publicly operated facility, the Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport does not display content that could be perceived as political or partisan.”…but the long entryway on the second level when entering from the parking garage continues to display messages on the windows about “addiction awareness” and how being a junkie is never anyone’s fault and how we must eliminate stigma. Pardon me, but that messaging always seemed a bit political to me. Also, it never seemed like a good idea to indicate to our arriving tourists that we have a junkie problem unless it includes messaging about not leaving valuables in sight inside their vehicle.
…How about the renaming of the airport after a prominent democrat who was primarily responsible for all the immigration facilities being located in the area
close to the airport. Was that not political?
Who made that decision ? Who will take responsibility for censoring what people can hear at OUR airport .
The subtext of most everything in our state arises from the left’s distorted world view. We are subjected to this at every turn. There are signs that this pervasive bias may be eroding. Our three Washington officials seem to be leaking credibility. Vermonters may be awakening to the flaws of the left. Let’s hope the coming election will move us forward in this direction.
