Orange County Sheriff George Contois yesterday reiterated his belief that the proposed 2024 Orange County budget will devastate the department.
“It’s akin to defunding the department,” he said during a public hearing yesterday.
Historically, several civilian duty clerks at OCSD were funded through the county’s general fund, but the elected side judges said yesterday that this practice violates state law.
Although they said they were sympathetic to the sheriff’s plight, they argued this change has been years in the making and is long overdue.
More information will be forthcoming in next week’s paper.
