Gov. Phil Scott issued a welcome to Vice President J.D. Vance and his family on Thursday as they are due to arrive in Vermont on Friday for a get-away ski weekend.

Scott said he hoped Vermonters would be respectful of Vance, his wife and their three children, ages 2 to 7, during the family trip.

The Valley Reporter, which first broke the story of the visit, reported today that the Vances are no longer planning to stay at the Pitcher Inn on Main Street in Warren.

The award-winning inn had been attacked on social media by Vermonters for allowing the Vance family to stay there.

Some Vermonters are unhappy that Vance is visiting the Mad River Valley and have organized protests, including near the Pitcher Inn. There is at least one positive rally event scheduled.

Vice President JD Vance will not be staying at The Pitcher Inn in Warren Village this weekend during a family ski vacation at Sugarbush.

George Dorsey, the inn owner of the inn, said he had been informed that Vance had changed his lodging plan.

Vermont News First has learned the family may be staying at a private residence to avoid disrupting other guests at an inn.

“We have learned that a Saturday protest in Warren is likely. We have plans to put coffee out in front of The Warren Store for those who want a free cup. The Visit of the VP presents a rare opportunity to communicate to him. I hope that happens in a way that is sensitive to his three small children,” the Valley Reporter said Dorsey said in an email.

The Vances are planning to ski at the Sugarbush Resort, where protesters said they might try to join him on the slopes.

Scott did not say if he would be meeting with Vance. The Congressional delegation has not said if any of them plan to welcome the Vance family or visit with the Vice President.

Scott’s statement said:

“I welcome the Vice President and his family to Vermont and hope they enjoy their weekend here. It’s no surprise they chose Vermont, we’ve had a lot of snow this winter, which has been good for our economy. And while we’ve all been doing a lot of shoveling and plowing, Vermonters know it’s part of a rugged and adventurous way of life that makes our winters worthwhile,” Scott said in his statement.

“I hope Vermonters remember the Vice President is here on a family trip with his young children and, while we may not always agree, we should be respectful,” he continued.

“Please join me in welcoming them to Vermont, and hoping they have an opportunity to experience what makes our state, and Vermonters, so special.”

VTGOP Chair, Paul Dame, stated in a press release, “Vermont is a great place to raise a family, and it’s a wonderful place to spend time as a family on vacation. I regret that the Vice President, his wife and his children are facing the kind of opposition that I find inappropriate for such a purely personal visit.

This is why the Vermont Republican Party is launching an online “Welcome Card” that we are asking any Vermonter to sign to show that, whether you like the Vice President or not, he and his family – and every family are welcome in our state. The online “Welcome Card” will be open through Monday, at which point I will print out a copy of the signers and send it along with some Vermont Maple Syrup back to the White House thanking the Vice President for his visit and encouraging him and his family to return to Vermont for future family trips.”

Anyone can sign the petition thanking the Vance family for their visit, and welcoming them to come back to Vermont in the future.

  1. “Some Vermonters are unhappy that Vance is visiting the Mad River Valley and have organized protests, including near the Pitcher Inn. The award-winning inn had been attacked on social media by Vermonters for allowing the Vance family to stay there.”
Boy that says a lot about the loons in this state . Would people of the political right have protested if the former “Squash in Chief” or his “Vice Idiot” had of come to Vermont to ice fish ? Would any of us bothered to protest his choice of a place to recreate ? I can only speak for myself, but I would tell them the same thing I tell every tourist. Enjoy yourself, spend lots of money, but most importantly, don’t forget to go home !

    • I personally don’t care what his reason for coming here is. It wouldn’t change my feelings if he was here to taste the maple syrup or to look at foliage in the fall. He’s not welcome.

    • If it weren’t for tourism and second home ownership and relocation as conferred by the US Constitution – VT would look like Arkansas. A welfare state.

And if other states of this union – Though Many, One – had the same attitude in having Vermont residents visit there and relocate there – the entire nation would be akin to one giant Arkansas.

    • In my humble opinion… In MY humble OPINION… Ain’t none of these lunatic protestors gonna come out and protest if they aren’t getting paid to do so. Let me amend that, as MountPeculiar is a short drive away. Maybe the local lunatics will put in a token appearance for nothing other than virtue signaling. But the rest? Doubt it.

So, with apologies to Jeff Foxworthy, here’s my tips on how to spot paid agitators.

Are their signs professionally printed? They….. might be paid agitators. Do their clothes look a little too expensive compared to the locals you know? They….. might be paid agitators. Do they leave immediately after the Fake News cameras turn off? They….. might be paid agitators. Are any state or federal politicians putting in an appearance? They….. might be paid agitators. Do they have a clever rhyme that they’re chanting? They….. might be paid agitators. Do they all look like they just stepped out of an L L Bean catalog? They….. might be paid agitators.

      You are welcome!!!

Feel free to add your own in a reply.

    • Vermont, king of the Astro Turf, great feedback Robin. If all the kids on campus have the same tent,,,they might be paid, if all the women are wearing pussie hats they might have gotten a free bus ride, re paid protesters….

  2. J.D. and family, here is a hearty welcome from a real Vermonter. We love having you here. Be sure to pick up some maple syrup before you leave.

  3. Re: “Scott said he hoped Vermonters would be respectful of Vance,…”, and
“The award-winning inn had been attacked on social media by Vermonters for allowing the Vance family to stay there.”

Well duh…. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that ‘Vermonters’ (many of whom at least, especially those in the legislature) are unhinged TDS victims of NPR and public school lies and indoctrination. The Valley Reporter should have known better. So too should have VDC and Governor Scott known better.

What concerns me now is the possibility that certain of Vermont’s actors in this story did know better, and that these stories were intended ‘doxxing’. Shameful. But, hey, that’s the Vermont in which we live today.

  4. JD Vance is too good to come to Vermont where we have a RINO governor. New Hampshire would be a much better choice…the White Mountains are far superior to the Greens. Live free or die!

  5. This is another good reason to shut off all federal funds coming to Vermont. The cave monkeys in the Vermont state house need to go home. When you change your lodging plans that becomes a security problem.

  6. We need to show empathy for those suffering from TDS (Trump derangement syndrome) and know that their mental malady is not something they have a lot of control over. This is not something that can be treated with typical psychiatric medications, since they are on most of them anyhow and still exhibit the irrational behaviors. Hopefully the Vice President and his family will have some understanding about the aberrant manifestations of TDS and pray along with all of us that someday we may find a cure.

    • Sorry Rich, I can’t show any empathy for Commiecrats with TDS. I am too much fun laughing my aSS off watching the tears flow. And besides if what Trump has done to cause their exacerbation of TDS in only a little over a month, how much will their symptoms increase in two months, six months, a year. No, I’m afraid they are condemned to a life of affliction with no known cure. And they deserve everything they got coming to them.

“So maybe the rain is really to blame, so I’ll remove the cause but not the symptom”.
Dr. Frank N. Furter – The Rocky Horror Picture Show

  7. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Just maybe Scott has figured it out. For the good of the state and Vermonters, I hope so. The way the world is, it is good to be on the right side of someone that is in an important place.

  8. I think the leftist lunatics attempting to harass Vance is great! Other than the fact that maybe his Secret Service detail might “harass” them back, despite this RINO governor’s undoubtably courting of the V.P. last week at the White House — Vance will now have his eyes WIDE OPEN to the sickening, discriminatory, intolerant rantings of this fringe Anti-constitutional government — and proceed to sic the feds on these anarchists once and for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Mr. Vice President, Maine AND Vermont are both HUGE head cases!

Oh, and by the way, SANCTUARY STATES are ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Scott said he hoped Vermonters would be respectful of Vance, his wife and their three children during the family trip…………….. Yeah sure !!

This deep blue state and it minions will try to upset the Trip, at any cost, the good news is that JD will see how biased these clowns are against anyone that does not support their view like a santuary status state, the the Governor supports, he’ll suck up just for the photo op……………. pretty pathetic,

    Wake up people

  10. I vividly remember, when Trump came to Vermont, before he was even considered serious. There is an entire network of leftist communication, not in the normal sphere of non Marxist people.

Coming to Burlington, driving down Main street it looked like a major disaster happened, sirens, lights, police even fifty feet doubled up with fed security, shouting and screaming, drums, etc. Everyone was buying fickets and not showing to keep people from hearing Trump at the theatre. I asked the officer how could I get in, he said not here, you have to go,around the block.

Upon walking around the block, I find a line, 1/2 mile long minimum, quietly, patiently waiting in line.

Watching the Cola wars last night, propaganda, advertising clearly works, you can have coke and Pepsi drinkers not associating with each other, clearly, neither product being necessary or healthy….brown sugar water. Both products benefitted, the American people, not so much.

People are likely to be arrested, we’ve lost any sense of decorum, surely and reality is also quite tenuous.

  11. When I heard Vance and family were thinking of coming to Vermont I actually wrote the Whitehouse Stating that there are many here who would welcome them with open arms but also recommended they rethought their plans..knowing full well it would bring the wackjobs out of their moms basements. I’m not sure my comments made any difference but I implied that if it were me I’d not put my wife and children through the abuse they’ll no doubt receive by these mental patients. My state never fails to embarrass itself.

    • Including the people like the first commenter on this thread who purports to be a Trump/Vance supporter and of the US Constitution, but instead:

A.) Believe those who were randomly born here are somehow “special” – presumably because a collective gaggle of unschooled “maws” told them so nearly a century ago,

B.) Believes only those born here should be allowed to live here – in violation of the US Constitution, who think however that Vermont residents can & should be able to choose to live anywhere THEY choose within the USA without being harassed or molested,

C.) Believes his telling the V.P. of the USA – an accomplished professional, public servant, and scholar to hightail it out of a U.S. state that he has federal jurisdiction over sounds in some way “impressive” and not at all like the typical woodchuck segregationist.

D.) Stay at our place, Mr. Vice President, for as long as you like by the way – husband is a ninth generation Vermonter and knows it doesn’t mean a hill of beans!

  12. Terrible that the VP and family had to change hotels due to people in VT being such
assholes they’d screw up a wet dream.

Folks should leave them alone, wife and 3 kids…shame on those jerks, who masquerade as Vermonters…disgusting sick puppies.

Of one thing I’ve no doubt…their KARMA going to come back, and bite them in the ass…pardon my French.

    Jerks!

  13. VP Vance please remember the DEMORATS have nothing at all as to with what makes our state, and Vermonters, so special!!!!

  14. Welcome Mr. Vice President and family to Vermont. I mean that sincerely. While I appreciate the effort that Governor Scott made to welcome you I do not understand know why he, and so many others, find it necessary to say: “while I don’t always agree with him”. They never say exactly what the disagreement is. I can only assume their welcome is not as sincere as it should be. Welcome, Mr. Vice President and family,

    Dicoi

  15. Governer Scott brought a voice of reason, yet many Vermonters today brought a voice of disgrace and disrespect, just shameful. Makes me not want to be here.
Bernie is also pushing on with his false rhetoric and anti Trump nonsense with his stop the oligarch agenda, someone should remind him Trump defeated the oligarchy and Bernie is one himself. The hypocrisy and ignorance is so over the top with these lunatics.

  16. Well, the TDS crowd scored a victory over the Inn by prompting Vance to cancel his family’s reservation there. Way to support Vermont business, guys.

  17. I believe that it would have been very appropriate for our congressional delegation, Balint, Sanders, and Welch, to have joined Scott in welcoming the Vice President of the United States to Vermont. I could be wrong, but I didn’t see anything like that…

  18. Semper Fi and welcome to Vermont Mr Vice President! I hope you have a wonderful time here and plan on coming back. I have three extra bed rooms and you are always welcome at my place anytime. Your kids would love it here! Please give my best regulars to President Trump.

  19. Did you really think those airhead degenerate democrats would act civilized?? You never did make sense to me or acted like a leader.
