Burlington Police — and possibly Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak — were finally able to confirm this morning what Vermont News First reported yesterday afternoon — the latest arrest of Michael Reynolds.
What was the likelihood that Michael Reynolds would be arrested again Monday afternoon for a new trespassing complaint?
Reynolds, who has had 1,850 contacts with Burlington Police in recent years, caused Progressive Party Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak to think she needed to issue a Gag Order last week to her own police department.
Mulvaney-Stanak doesn’t want the public to know the criminal backgrounds of the misfits that get arrested in her city, including Reynolds.
The Mayor issued the Executive Order after State’s Attorney Sarah George asked her to muzzle Chief Jon Murad.
Murad had the audacity to say after one of the latest incidents with Reynolds that things were not working in the criminal justice and mental health systems.
Murad even suggested using the Habitual Offender statute, which carries up to a life sentence for career criminals.
It was unclear Monday afternoon when Mulvaney-Stanak would give the green light to a police press announcing the latest arrest of Reynolds, 47, of Burlington.
As VNF had noted in a news story published yesterday, Reynolds had been involved a few incidents during the day and was eventually arrested at the Social Security Administration Office on Lakeside Avenue in early afternoon.
Well at 8:12 a.m. today, media members had a BPD news release in their inbox announcing the Reynolds arrest.
The release was able to confirm the Vermont News First story that Burlington Police had a couple of trespass interactions — actually 3 — on Monday with Reynolds. He was ordered to leave the Social Security Office on Lakeside Avenue about 8:45 a.m. and police gave him a ride away from the property.
It took Reynolds only until 12:20 p.m. to return to Lakeside and become a problem, police said. He was verbally aggressive to the staff and refused to leave, police said.
BPD also confirmed the Vermont News First report that he was taken to Vermont Superior Court, where officials threw their hands in the air — much like all his past cases.
“The courts directed officers to release Reynolds from custody without (a) citation or conditions, advising they will arraign him at his next scheduled appearance,” the BPD press release said.
The standard BPD press release form says the information was prepared by PIO Sarah Hernandez Timm and Murad. Mulvaney-Stanak’s name is not listed on the press release form for who approved the release. Mulvaney-Stanak’s name has yet to appear on the BPD press releases since the Mayor took control of releasing crime news.
There also was no mention of the 1,850 past interactions with police in recent years. It all is public record, but apparently not with Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak.
George, elected to represent the public in prosecutions, opted to side with Public Defender Josh O’Hara, who asked a judge to also issue a gag order.

Burlington’s DEI Mayor and her executive order to ” gag ” the police department from reporting on the criminals roaming the streets in her cesspool from the taxpaying citizens…….. Well, it didn’t take long for Michael Reynolds to get busted again, so the streets are full of POS like Reynolds, and you see why she wanted to hush up the police in their reports…………… a feckless leader.
How’s DEI leadership really working in Burlington, let’s see out-of-control crime, drugs, and an onslaught of homelessness, the city has become a cesspool and is running the train right off the rails for her agenda.
Wake up people, fire this clown she’s in over her head, and as a taxpayer, I’m not getting my money’s worth for the $120k we pay, her for safety & security for starters.
Too bad they can’t also be confirming the arrest of that Communist mayor they have there.
Just wondering, is the BPD the only city department that has to “clear” press releases through the Mayor’s office ?
Is it OK with Mayor Emma-Hyphen if this vital public safety information regarding the current status of this dangerous individual is made available?
When the police work for the Burlington Corporation you report to the mayor that was elected by the people in Burlington. Now , if you do not like your boss, you can quit, or charge her with dereliction of duty and should be able to prove your case. Now, does the GOVIE of Vermont control the press release that are given by the state police????
