Bossange: The political coup has been completed

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Supreme Court has granted President Trump immunity from criminal prosecution when issuing “official acts” while in office.

by John Bossange

It happened so quickly.  Yet here we are with an elected U.S. president who appears to have complete control of all three branches of our government.  That concentration of power has occurred in the past.  However, unlike all those presidents who served before him, the Supreme Court has granted President Trump immunity from criminal prosecution when issuing “official acts” while in office.  That’s a massive change to the functioning of our branches of government, setting up a constitutional crisis in America.

This one Supreme Court decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts explaining the Court’s decision in Trump vs. the United States has placed President Trump above the law and beyond the historically understood limited power of the executive branch.  Any president can now operate as a dictator, or as the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 playbook calls it, a “Unitary Executive.” No law abiding US citizen from any political party or from any corner of America should be celebrating this misguided, consequential landmark decision.

Patriotic Americans believe in the separation of powers as defined by the U.S. Constitution.  That’s gone now.  The Immunity decision gives President Trump the power to make “official acts” without consulting or getting the approval of Congress.  Further, as President Trump has done for decades, he can appeal lower Appellate and Federal Court decisions until a case is eventually brought before the Supreme Court.  All of this takes time and taxpayer money, ending in numerous out-of-court settlements, the pathway Mr. Trump used as a private citizen.

However, if a case reaches the Supreme Court, only the President can enforce their decision.  That’s how our Founding Fathers envisioned the balance of power. Our sixth President, Andrew Jackson, challenged the limits of the Executive Office, but finally complied with Chief Justice John Marshall’s decision back in 1832.  Since then, every president has understood their allegiance to the Constitution, the checks and balances between the three branches, and their role to enforce Supreme Court rulings.

President Trump can now do otherwise, showcasing the nightmare scenario feared by the architects of our Constitution.  Faith and respect to that sacred obligation, as sworn on the Bible by every president on January 20th, can now be violated.  Recently that obligation has been broken by a series of executive orders issued by President Trump sanctioned as “official acts” protected by the Immunity decision.

If you voted for president Trump, you voted for a lot more than a name on the ballot.  You voted for a coup, and you are getting the full package. The facts surrounding the President’s life as a private citizen present a well-known package of legal entanglements and sordid, distasteful personal comments and actions.  But anarchy scripted in the coup’s package is darkening our nation as the elected President has begun to rule with not just immunity, but with impunity and immorality.

The growing list of reductions and eliminations of entire Federal departments and agencies along with the dismantling of this idea of the ”deep state” continue to be driven by impulsive actions, not grounded in reality, and with little thought for long-term consequences.

The war on Social Security, Medicare, public education, legal immigrants, climate crisis mitigation, our universities and libraries, the lRS, FDA, FCC, FEMA, EPA, DOE, HHS, HUD, DOJ, the VA, the Federal Reserve, our NATO allies, and our most loyal trading partners are all examples of irrational thinking with no real end game, only producing local, state, national, and world-wide chaos and destruction.  Let’s call this for what is: Anarchy in America.

I believe revenge is a primary reason voters elected President Trump and the reason the coup unfolded so easily and quickly.  Revenge and resentment are two powerful emotions felt by millions of dissatisfied Americans.  President Trump carefully designed a well-planned campaign, identifying his version of domestic and foreign “enemies” of America, accusing them of the nation’s problems, justifying the coup.  There are also those who have justified the coup expecting to profit from less regulation, privatizing government activities to their benefit.  Greed and revenge have become the worst of bedfellows fostering anarchy.

The coup will last as long as the people allow it.  Will Americans tire of Trump’s war on America?  Will parents worry and begin to feel the pain of losing those institutions and regulations that have protected generations of Americans?  For their children’s sake, they should.  Every proud, patriotic, law abiding American should as well.

Americans will not accept anarchy and living under a dictator.  Resistance is growing quickly as people wake up and realize what they voted for and what is now occurring with the coup in place.  Eventually masses of patriotic Americans, long-standing institutions, and agencies will refuse to obey senseless executive orders designed to seek revenge, harm others, and benefit the wealthy.  We are seeing signs of that push back already with growing demonstrations and increasing organizational resistance.

Punishment and retribution, the cornerstones of the President’s coup, have never been the characteristics that made America a great nation.  We did not become the “shining city upon a hill” by harming legal citizens, tearing apart our government, and isolating our country from the world.   Anarchy will not last because the people, regardless of their religion, race, gender, national origin, or political party, will not allow the coup to stand.   Democracy and America’s institutions will prevail.

  1. Under Liberal Biden we had a political coup, and no argument for the Liberal faction of Judges, Politicians, Shepople, he had free rien to destroy America. Under Trump with America getting back onto it’s feet these factions are in constant condemnation and George Soros is more active than ever with his funding of rioters and questionable organizations. . The difference between Biden and Trump is night and day. People voted for daylight and are holding a steady course in support despite the media’s falsehoods. MEGA

  2. I tried to read this with an open mind, but I just can’t get on board. I do consider myself a patriotic American, and I believe in the separation of powers as outlined in the U.S. Constitution. I remain unconvinced that “that’s gone now,” as the author asserts. The evidence, in my opinion, does not support that conclusion. I spent like 10 seconds writing a prompt in AI (Grok) which came back with this statement:
President Trump’s current term (2025-2029) cannot be reasonably construed as a coup based on the available evidence. He assumed office through a legitimate electoral process, and no illegal or violent actions have been documented to suggest an overthrow of government. While some express concerns about democratic erosion, these do not meet the threshold of a coup, which requires clear, illegal seizure of power.

  3. bossange’s blathering of regurgitated talking points really isn’t worth reading-except to remind ourselves of the very prominent and disturbing effects of propaganda and programming. bossange has an elitist socialist/marxist worldview,
seemingly nothing will change that- and his blovating- when viewed thru that lens, reminds us of how far away from a constitutional republic Vermont has fallen.
That his diatribe is published here is an editorial decision that seems prudent.
The commenting policy here is well stated and non-exclusive- exactly the opposite of other Vermont based news sites- that share bossanges’ worldview and no longer allow comments.

  4. Naaaahh A President’s official executive acts have ALWAYS been beyond legal challenge

  5. John Bossange suffers from chronic self-righteousness, a disorder common in Vermont these days that adversely affects critical thinking skills. Ironically, he is correct in his assessment (although he likely wouldn’t agree), that a ‘political coup has been completed’. The coup began decades ago, in an attempt to defeat the individual liberty and freedom espoused by the U.S. Constitution and its free market economies.

Interestingly, Bossange and other sufferers of the disorder (some call it Trump Derangement Syndrome) define liberty, freedom and free markets as anarchy, gravitating instead to the centralized mindless logical fallacies exemplified in Orwell’s ‘1984’ missive on mass indoctrination… “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”

  6. Thank you, Mr. Bossange, for your perceptive and analytical analysis of the situation. We are getting what we asked for when we voted for Trump II. In reading the above reactions:
    1. “The difference between Biden and Trump is night and day.” TRUE.
    2. “Political propaganda such as this…should be barred from publication.” SOUNDS A BIT UNAMERICAN TO ME.
    3. “A President’s official executive acts have ALWAYS been beyond legal challenge.” NO, SEE RICHARD M. NIXON.

Mr. Bossange state that revenge and resentment were primary reasons for people voting for Trump. I believe FEAR was a greater factor. Pearl Harbor changed America’s sense of security for the WWII generation allowing Japanese Americans to be interned. For us, it was 9/11, resulting in attacking Iraq on the false claim of WMD. Then Covid hit with the belief that the virus was inflicted on us from China.

Fear is perhaps the greatest human motivator. Believing the Jewish people responsible for the recession, the German people accepted Hitler as their savior. Dictators gain popular support by convincing the masses that their country is in decay and only they can save it. A similar sense of fear routinely is reflected in replies to this forum.

Like Mr. Bossange, however, I am confident that the spirit of ’76 will overcome. We see this being played out as Trump’s popularity continues to drop like the stock market, and tens of thousands are beginning to protest to take back their government.

  7. I voted for Trump twice, both times to try to stave off or undo the disastrous effects of the uber liberal regimes afflicting our country.

  8. Well, all I can say is the editor has no clue as to what he is talking about, and why would I say such as statement as that? Yes I shall tell you. It’s the year of 1871 and our Traitors in Both Houses passed the Organic act and out the Door went the CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC. THE ORGANIC ACT was changed multiple times.

Why would this be done? Well again I’ll tell you This Nation has been run by the Crown of the UK & the Vatican. and folks you have been under a Corporation for many, many decades and this Corporation was forced throught Bankruptcy in 2020.

Another little thing this editor has no idea of is that Washington DC is not part of this Nation and ALL Lawyers who belong to the BAR have sworn Allegiance to the Crown ( again UK )

Every fake Federal agency is no Federal but a Private Corporation including the IRS and Federal Reserve. The Federa;l Reserve is owned by a group of Bankers and is a Corporation. Here is a nice little secret all of your tax dollars have never stayed in this Nation. The IRS is a collection agency for the Federal Reserve and your money is sent too the UK

Almost every Senator and Congressional Represenative are TRAITORS. Why do you think all of thiem retire as multiple Millionairs….They all should be executed as Traitors they are…

Everything will come out and you’ll see I am spot on…

    • nobody’s going to touch this comment…..surely……lol….hot potato, things may not be as we’ve been told.

    • 1913 – The year of infamy. How were so many people deluded in 1913? Not only was the Federal Reserve established, but tariffs which funded the government were eliminated and the Progressive income tax (16th Amendment) was installed to make sure everybody paid their “fair share”, when in reality they installed a system which they knew down the road could be weaponized and used against political opponents. Then they passed the 17th Amendment allowing the Senators to be elected to office instead of being appointed by the state legislatures bypassing the natural term limits the founders built into Constitution. Right after all the Senators were bought up by the special interests of the day, the Fricks, Mellons, DuPont’s, Rockefellers and they turned around and passed laws allowing them to create foundations so they could circumvent the income tax and fund their NGOs to do their dirty work. All this was done under the father of Progressivism, President Woodrow Wilson. And the United States has never been the same. The camel got more than his nose under the tent. Scratch a progressive and you’ll find a fascist.

  9. Dear Mr. Bossange,

Here is an informative video you may enjoy. Are you familiar with Subversion? You done’ talk about any specifics. Has anybody’s social security been cut? Anybody? Cutting fraud only hurts the fraudsters.

What are your thoughts about the administrative state, you realize they run our congressman and senators and tell them how to vote?

Do you believe PAC money is good for America? Both sides seem to love it. Do you think the lobbyists should be making all the policy for US and Vermont?

Do you believe everything on NPR? Has Trump done ANYTHING good? Is there nothing that needs improvement in the United States?

  10. The only coup we had in this state is when the GOVIE shut this state down and tried the force everybody to take the COVID KILL SHOT. Now how well did that work out?????????

    • My own ability to gully utilize use of my legs was compromised. So much for the “vaccines”.

  11. The eons old divide and conquer tactics are working just as designed. A segment of the populace so hoodwinked they can’t see the forest through the trees at all anymore. Blinders affixed and not coming off. Meanwhile, others are so confused and lost in the wilderness, they don’t know what to do or what to think anymore – all they know is they are working hard, some for many years, and going broke – losing more and gaining less each passing day. It is being an indebted hamster running on the beast system’s wheel of misfortune – to the point of death or disability – whichever may come first.

May as well face it – we are at the end of 50++ years of debauchery and degeneracy. All the NGO’s and non-profiteers filling their pants because they know their shell gaming launder-rama is nearing elimination. The globalists are being outplayed and outsmarted by the billionaire technocrats. The politicians can’t figure out which side to run to – so they keep playing both sides with twisted tongue pandering platitudes. Societal collapse by design. It is just a matter of time, in little time now, the gravy trains completely derail. Those with the most, stand the most to lose. Which is why the non-stop fear mongering, psyops, weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

Depopulation, wealth transfer, reset – it is a game and it is rigged – for thousands of years. The mere little peons, regardless of their political persuasion or number of university degrees they hold, won’t change or stop their demise. Usefull for now, worthless later on. Enjoy the ride. It is coming to an end. It has to – there is no way around it or any way to avoid it. See history of Babylon for more details.

    • Well said, Melissa. Would you be willing to expand this response into a longer opinion piece, detailing what you see happening and how it fits into the long game you point to when you mention the history of Babylon?

  12. WARNING: Be advised that the author of this article is an avowed Progressive -Socialist who is of the same mindset that Covid came from bats, masks would help stop the spread, staying six feet apart would help stop the spread, closing businesses would help stop the spread, the vaccines would keep you from getting covid with no harm and yelled at you for not following the arrows on the grocery store floor. Kept the liquor stores open but closed the churches and wouldn’t let you visit your loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes. He is an anti-constitutionalist.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time”. Anonymous

  13. There is no “war” on Social Security, Medicaais, etc. Mr. Trump was voted into office. Balloting isn’t a “coup”.

  14. I’m so glad that Vermont Chronicle allows opinions to be published that differ from those of you or I. In fact, I hope The Author continues to write to the other newspapers like “Vermont digger, Burlington, Free Press, seven days“ that do not allow letters to be published. This has been missing since the beginning of Covid and they continue this trend, even though there’s no virus hanging out any longer.
Because when you allow other people to speak their mind, especially here in Vermont, it shows what a huge vacuum there really is in finding common ground, and also allowing for healthy debate.

I do not agree with the author, but I’m glad he’s reading Vermont daily chronicle, where the truth is truly being Discovered and written!

  15. The common denominator John Bossange has with other writers like him is that they blast us with incessant gaslighting ad hominem vitriol against Donald Trump and all who voted for him as if they assume we believe that every word they say is holy writ.

Furthermore, they never offer anything constructive, creative, or novel, but whine, complain, criticize, and sour grapes rationalize against those who are actually doing something substantive to right the ship of state that was just a few minutes away from sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

We were so morally and ideologically off course that the most basic common sense actions and course corrections are now regarded as overwhelmingly radical and dangerous.

Can you imagine anyone in their right mind fifty years ago ever considering that the President of the United States would (need to) proclaim in his inaugural address in 2025 that there are only two genders? It would have been the stuff of a Smothers Brothers sketch, humorous only because of the absurdity of its impossibility.
