Bondi to Welch During Senate Confirmation Hearing: “No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, questioned U.S. Attorney General Nominee Pamela Bondi on President-elect Trump’s threats against political opponents. Ms. Bondi committed to Welch that at the Department of Justice, under her leadership, “No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent.”

Watch the exchange between Senator Welch and Pam Bondi, President-elect Trump’s pick to be Attorney General:

Welch: “I do have some concerns, not so much about you, but what President Trump has said about a desire—on his part—to go after what he considers to be political adversaries. His own words, for instance, says that if he’s elected he’d seek to appoint a special prosecutor to go after Joe Biden. I assume you’ve had no discussion with President-elect Trump about that?”

Bondi: “Absolutely not, nor against Senator Schiff.”

Welch: “My colleague, Senator Schiff, who I think did an incredibly good job—President Trump had different views about that where he said on a number of occasions that everybody on the January 6 committee should be prosecuted for their lies and treason. No discussion about that? And Liz Cheney also, he said that she should be prosecuted for lies and treason as well.”

Bondi: “No, Senator…We have had no discussions about Liz Cheney.”

Welch: “You’ve satisfied me that this is not an agenda you have. President Trump has satisfied me that when he says things that are pretty provocative, he’s often serious. Now, Senator Cruz wants what I want and that is to have a Justice Department that is not going after people on the basis of them being political opponents. And my understanding, in listening to your answers to questions along this line, is that you have no intention—no intention of pursuing people on the basis of them being a political opponent.”

Bondi: “No one will be prosecuted, investigated because they are a political opponent. That’s what we’ve seen for the last four years in this administration. People will be prosecuted based on the facts, and the law, and fairly, Senator.”

Welch: “Alright, that’s good. I disagree about the characterization of the past four years. But we don’t have to discuss that with the assurance that the next four years there will be no effort on the part of the Justice Department to pursue political adversaries—right?”

Bondi: “Every case will be done on a case-by-case basis. No one should be prosecuted for political purposes. Absolutely not.”

  1. She’s 1,000% correct. But know this: if you were on the J6 committee, and you were involved in hiding evidence, destroying evidence, or lying, you should fully expect to be investigated, and if laws were broken and crimes committed, you should absolutely be prosecuted. Schiff appears to have every reason to be concerned.

  2. I really detest these power grabbing leftist pols, who once elected, use the perks, and powers of incumbency, to basically stay in office for life, then our chances of getting fresh ideas in ,as the world changes ,are for naught!

We ,as a nation, already fought 2 wars, to get the House of Lords yoke off our backs, and now, 250 years later, we have a new house of lords riding our ass, and our wallets, like a bunch of fat hogs, that don’t have the sense to see when they over eat, sopping up all the gravy, in the troth ,including tomorrows gravy, they are so greedy and corrupt, and leaving piles of crap in their wake.

Time to butcher those fat hogs, in the polling booth, so we can get someone new and fresh, to muck up all the hog dung the new house of lords for life, lavished upon…we the voters!

Vote them out, the close the barn tight behind them least they root their way back into the gravy train, for life.

  3. Looks like peter welch is a puppet with shifty schiff pulling the strings in the video.
who’d thunk schiff had such skill as a ventriloquist.

  4. Peter Welch, is another black eye for Vermont’s political agenda, you notice all the leftists are worried about being prosecuted, well people if you didn’t do anything illegal then you have nothing to worry about !!

But those who broke the law or lied to Congress like ” Adam Schiff ” did, needs to lawyer up, as they have stated ” No One ” is above the law

Vermont’s DC connection Sanders, Welch, and Balint what a trio, we deserve better,
    what a clown show.

    • Yes they’ll “lawyer up” at our expense, they have a built in legal system that covers all expenses on us.

  5. Peter, Peter Insider Trader – looking kinda haggard and sounding like a grumpy old withering, dithering fool. Did he take his cues from Senator Molester, Adam-the Standard Motel-Soros In-law, Shifty Shape-Shifter? I’d rather watch paint dry than watch hardened, repugnant white-color criminals pretend to defend and protect our best interests. Pull the plug on this charade of justice and desecration of our Republic. They should be ashamed, but they don’t have a conscience let alone any decorum. Congress should be rebranded as Monsters, Inc.

  6. I guess we will have to hope that Bondi will provide guardrails to protect the Constitution as did Barr under in the Trumpster the First administration..

  7. After going after Trump for nine years Welch doesn’t want Trump’s AG not to go after political his enemies. Yeah, ok Pete in what world do you live in?

    “I am your voice”.
    “I am your warrior”.
    “I am your justice”.
“I am you retribution”. Donald J. Trump

And I pray he is all of that.

  8. I don’t remember hearing much from Welch while the Biden Administration was prosecuting their political enemies, I’m thinking Welch’s political bias is showing here.
