The body was recovered Saturday from the Colchester side of the Winooski River in the area of the Intervale Center, Colchester Police said.

Colchester Detective Sgt. Jeremy Wyskiel said Burlington Police were first alerted about 10:45 AM Saturday and later Colchester authorities joined in the recovery from the river, which splits the two communities.

Colchester Technical Rescue and the Burlington Fire Department assisted police.

The Intervale Center has been used as an encampment by homeless people.

Anybody with information about the case is asked to call Colchester Police Detective Cpl. Michael West at (802) 264-5555.

On social media, Stone was recognized by many friends as a musician and “a kind and funny son and brother known for his love of music and his sense of humor.” WCAX profiled Stone in an August 21, 2024 feature story entitled “Dancing flagger brings smiles to drivers stuck in traffic.”

VDC staff contributed information to this news story.

  1. If it was the same guy, I had the honor of seeing him doing his flag dance on the Mountain Road near Spruce Peak last year. Surprised the heck out of me. Had never seen anyone do this.

He was really good and proved that no matter what you do for work, you can show up and do your job with flair and excellence.

I hope he made peace with Jesus before his time on earth was through.
