Blotter: Stabbing, bottle attack, big haul at camp burglary

Two Ryegate men are facing charges following a stabbing during a recent domestic dispute on South Bayley Hazen Road. Vermont State Police said William Locke, 38, was taken into custody without incident after allegedly stabbing Robert Bariteau, 57, during a fight. Bariteau was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later released with conditions. Both men were scheduled for Caledonia County Superior Court on September 15.

Montpelier woman arrested after bottle attack
An 18-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after Montpelier police said she struck a person in the head with a bottle on September 15. Brooklyn Champaine was arrested for aggravated assault and also charged with assaulting a protected professional after she allegedly spit on and kicked an officer while being taken into custody. She was held at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail pending arraignment.

St. Albans man indicted on federal gun charge
A federal grand jury has indicted Richard Bailey Jr., 34, of St. Albans, on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police say Bailey, who was at the scene of a workplace of a person he was not permitted to approach via court order, fled officers in Burlington on June 2 and discarded a fanny pack containing a loaded Sig Sauer pistol. He pleaded not guilty in federal court on September 8 and is being held pending trial.

Juvenile cited after St. J. school rock-throwing incident
Police responded to a report of juveniles throwing rocks at each other at the Good Shepherd School playground in Barre on September 5. One victim reported being struck in the arm, leaving a visible mark. Video evidence showed rocks striking nearby playground equipment while victims expressed fear. A juvenile was cited for aggravated assault and aggravated disorderly conduct.

Burglary reported at seasonal camp in Orange
Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary that occurred sometime in June or July at a seasonal camp on East Orange Road. Victim Belinda Heil, 59, of Florida, reported that several items were stolen, including a 2003 Skidoo snowmobile, chainsaws, generators, a wood stove, and solar batteries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper David Lambert at the Berlin Barracks at (802) 229-9191.

Fire under investigation at Georgia dollar general
Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that broke out behind the Dollar General in Georgia on September 12. No one was injured. The Vermont State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit is asking anyone with information to call Det. Sgt.
