H848, introduced into the Vermont House this week, would allow the Agency of Education to withhold school funding if a school district fails to comply with the mascot branding law passed by the Legislature in 2022 – a law intentionally murky on enforcement.
Now, If the same Legislature that bungled its way to the proposed 20% school tax increase passes this law too, taxpayers had better look to either mascot compliance – or their wallets. This has been Just A Minute with Guy Page, read more in the Vermont Daily Chronicle.

The only people who’ve ever been offended by mascots are white libs. The groups they are named for are in danger of being wiped out of the world’s memory forever if the virtue signalers continue to get their way.
Absolutely ridiculous…more power grabbing by Bully Big Brother. Bring back the South Burlington Rebels and all schools who were forced by the Woke Jokers to knuckle under to their Cancel Culture demands. There are proud heritages and historical references under attack and destined to be forever forgotten. Leftist virtue signaling reared its ugly head when the images of the Galloping Ghosts of Randolph and the Colonels of Brattleboro were removed. The Chieftains of Green Mountain barely hung onto their mascot as well as the Missisquoi Thunderbirds but it took the support of Native American tribes to salvage them, yet Rutland had to drop “Red” from their Red Raiders moniker. Yet the word “Raiders” alone is still under attack in both Stowe and U-32.
Watch out, Woodstock Wasps and Mt. Anthony Patriots…they might be soon threatening you with no school funding if the push is on to remove your mascots.
How about a name change in referencing the Vermont Legislators. No longer “Solons” but now “So Longs” or even the Yiddish “Shlangs” for the image of the snakes they have created for themselves.
Rebels is such a cool name. And something tells me the Rebels from South Burlington weren’t named in honor of the Confederacy. But that’s not the point. It never is.
this is complete control of speech and ideas, these people have been reading too much chinese history….falling in love with the red guards, trying to wipe away history, the four olds as they called it.
We too can be marxist in Vermont, we’ll be the first again! 1st state to adopt the red guard policies…..
I do need someone to explain to me. Was at my kids game the other day and the Rutland Rutland’s (formerly Raiders but was found offensive according to this law) played the Stowe Raiders (which is okay apparently because they were white Raiders) is okay. Now we’re playing the U32 Raiders (that Raiders is also not racist) I can’t help but note that there while Rutland was branded racist and backwards, Montpelier and Stowe continue to be able to use their nickname.
Someone please make this make sense. This is all much more important than affordable housing or the rise in crime by the way.
Chris, it makes perfect sense, politically. The object is to destabilize and force obedience.
Definition of raider: “a person who attacks an enemy in the enemy’s territory; a marauder.” Stowe and U32 located in proximity of the Golden Thunder Dome and Montpelier…named and known by their fruit perhaps?

A government OF, BY, and FOR the PEOPLE – these tyrants are overstepping their boundaries as well as our US and VT Constitutions at every turn and poster S.N. Rosenthal hit the nail on the head here in terms of their obsessive compulsion to control everything and everybody.
Does a state legislature even have the right under law to intrude upon such an insignificant matter such as this that might, possibly, fall under the Board of Education’s jurisdiction in a worst-case scenario or even the school’s supervisory union at best?
Yet the more we do not protest & challenge – the more emboldened they become. Complacency is how we got here to begin with.
They merely scoff at the rebuke they receive on VDC for they are but Communist traitors slowly but surely overthrowing a once-free republic.
Hopefully the Chieftains can hold out until sane people return to the legislature (which will probably be a while). Aren’t some Native Americans trying to get the Redskins back?
