I presented the information below at a lively, well-attended public forum Saturday night in Colchester. The next day I posted it on VDC.
And….wow!
Monday morning, I really screwed up the Chronicle daily edition. Not only did I forget to post the most newsy story (oops!), I forgot to post the daily edition to Facebook and Twitter. Mondays generally not being the hottest reading day anyway, I settled in for a pretty mediocre reader response, with only myself to blame.
And boy, was I surprised! The views started to climb early in the day and just never stopped. But Wednesday night we had already recorded an “average” week of views and visitors in just three days.
What the heck just happened, I wondered. Happy! Thankful! But….wondering.
Then it hit me. You had Become Your Own Media.
Apparently a good number of Chronicle readers decided they, too, were tired of the important news getting relegated to the back pages of Section F, figuratively speaking, of Vermont’s news consciousness. So they started sharing, and sharing, and sharing Chronicle news on Facebook, on Twitter, and forwarding their emailed daily edition to family and friends.
To those of you who did – Thank You. Please keep it up! To those of you who are wondering what this social media sharing thing is all about….. see below.
I’m sure Social Media Director Paul Bean’s daily efforts played a big role this week, too. Please help me continue to keep this invaluable resource working hard for you – support VDC by mailing a $108 annual Sustaining Subscriber check to P.O. Box 1547, Montpelier, VT 05601, or contribute online at Stripe.com.

I am grateful everyday for Vermont Daily Chronicle. It is always a great honor to hear you present at various meetings and conferences across Vermont. Thank you Guy!
No greater service to the public and to the Republic than VDC – real news for real people. Thank you for your dedication and providing honest journalism in these extraordinary times we are all living in.
With the Biden administrations hijinks as well as META’s recent vow to realtime censor ‘misinformation’ (read posting about an unapproved candidate), censorship is now becoming a way of life.
Following Carlson’s interview with Putin where Americans were advised not to watch it (because you know… you might wake up to DC’s fascist lies about a country we’ve made a convenient scapegoat to look away from our own corruption, violence and deception let alone propaganda people pay to intake every day), we had better fasten our seatbelts for the shut down of ANY opposing views to the fascists in control narrative…
We need to admit that a coup d’etat happened in 2012 and 2020. We are in the control of fascists. Free speech is the first to go.
I’m thinking back to the future is in mimeograph machines, and pamphlets…Guttenberg be Blessed! Can’t just press a button have AI make ones and zeroes disappear of a fake reality we pay to view…
Are we ready yet for the dirt of real reality? Will VDC survive?
We need to think about this is we want Guy’s mission to stay up and running…
Thank you SOT. Smoke signals. You forgot smoke signals! 🙂 Seriously anyone in the non-aligned media these days needs to be thinking about Plan B if/when the censors – Big Tech, government, AI, whoever-whatever – decide they know best about ‘all the news that’s fit to print.’ I do think about this, quite a bit. Word of mouth can be a powerful thing, if it comes to that. But it will take courage – just ask the formerly free of Hong Kong.
Thank you for all the work you do and explaining what we can do to become our own media. I will have to try some of your suggestions.
Thank you to the VDC crew. The last free speech media outlet in Vermont.
