Balint names top aides

A former top aide for a Trump impeachment manager will serve as Rep. Becca Balint’s Chief of Staff.

Representative-Elect Becca Balint, VT-AL, announced she has hired Megan Garcia as Chief of Staff, and David Scherr as State Director. The Chief of Staff will be based in Washington, D.C. and manage Balint’s D.C. staff and legislative agenda. The State Director will be based in Vermont and will lead the Vermont staff and all outreach and constituency services.

Garcia is currently the Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for Rep. David Cicilline (RI-1). Cicilline is a senior member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Chairman of the Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee, and was an impeachment manager in the second impeachment of the former President, Donald Trump. Garcia has almost a decade of experience in the House of Representatives and 13 years working in philanthropic institutions. Garcia has a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, and a master’s in public policy from the University of California Berkeley.

Scherr was raised in Norwich, Vermont. Scherr is the General Counsel for the Vermont Cannabis Control Board. Previously, Scherr served as an Assistant Attorney General and Chief of the Community Justice Division in the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, where Scherr managed the criminal justice reform policy portfolio and the statewide court diversion and pretrial services program.

Scherr worked as a contract public defender in Vermont while working as an attorney at the Burlington firm of Burke Law, P.C. Scherr has a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College and earned his J.D. from Columbia University Law School.

Balint’s campaign manager, Natalie Silver, will continue to lead the Transition Team in collaboration with Scherr and Garcia.
