‘Unelected billionaire Elon Musk has illegally seized control of the payment systems at the United States Treasury’ – not, says 2024 House candidate

Our illustrious or maybe I should say notorious, Rebecca Balint or Becca, US Representative to Congress from Vermont, has begun a new program for all of those who subscribe to her newsletter.
She calls them “Rapid Response Alerts” and specifically in her announcement of this new program via email on Tuesday, 4 February, she states that under the “cruel executive orders” from President Trump with the Constitution under attack, we are in an “urgent Constitutional” crisis. She tells us she is “angry, sad, worried but most of all, fired up and ready to take this on”. Then declares she and her cronies in Congress will use every maneuver, tool, disruption to slow down and ultimately stop this “takeover of the government by unelected billionaires”. She wants to protect our “democracy”.
Just three hours and thirteen minutes later she sends another “alert” and states this:
“Unelected billionaire Elon Musk has illegally seized control of the payment systems at the United States Treasury.
This is the system that gets Social Security, Medicare, government salaries, and more to working families every day. This system has sensitive data for tens of millions of Americans.
Vermonters, I see your messages and comments. I know you’re against this invasion of privacy and this kind of hostile government takeover, even if you voted for President Trump.
I will not stand idly by. This afternoon I’ll be headed down to Treasury to protest Musk’s takeover.”
What Ms. Balint fails to understand is shocking, considering the fact that she is/was a former schoolteacher and now a public servant at the federal level.
Let’s start with the fact that we don’t have a “democracy”. We have a Representative Republic. Or Constitutional Republic. As a history and social studies teacher for 14 years in Vermont middle schools, you would think she would know this.
As a sitting REPRESENTATIVE, you would think she would know this. But you would be wrong. She doesn’t know this. She demonstrates this repeatedly. I wonder what 14 years of her students “don’t know” either, because of her ineptitude.
Mr. Musk has not “seized control” of anything. Ms. Balint makes it sound like Musk marched into the Treasury Department and he and his staff strong armed the Treasury Staff into a closet while he gleefully hacked into the computers. While in fact, Mr. Musk was duly appointed as a Special Government Employee (SGE) and serves at the behest of President Trump, as defined in 18 U.S.C. § 202.
These consultants or SGE’s have been around since 1962 and designed to take advantage of experts outside of the federal government. The position can be paid or unpaid. Mr. Musk will be UNPAID. They may only be retained and designated, appointed or employed for 130 days during any consecutive 365-day period.
Elon Musk is not the first one. From 2005-2014 there were roughly 2000 SGE’s in any given year. They serve in a variety of roles. In fact, Huma Abedin served in 2012 as an SGE, working for Hillary Rodham Clinton. Abedin, while working for Clinton as a SGE, had also done consultant work for Teneo, a strategic consulting firm whose client list includes MF Global, a primary dealer in US Treasury Securities. Ms. Abedin also was the assistant editor of the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs. As of this past summer, Ms. Abedin is now the fiancé of Alexander Soros, the son of George Soros.
“The president said though Musk has access to the Treasury payment systems, he would be unable to stop payments without his approval,” according to Fortune magazine on February 4th in an article by Sasha Rogelberg. Purportedly, President Trump also stated this, “Elon can’t do and won’t do anything without our approval,” Trump said. “And we’ll give him the approval, where appropriate; where not appropriate, we won’t.”
Mr. Musk was appointed by the current, sitting President of the United States of America to perform a specific function. He has not gone ROGUE and become a wrecking ball in the federal government as Ms. Balint has alluded to with her libelous verbiage, although his outcomes may likely feel like that to a certain subset of Washington entrenched elite. He has a team of people to aid him in this endeavor… and they have also been vetted and appointed. They are under the same exact privacy and ethics restrictions that every other government employee has with some exceptions to contractual and conflict of interest issues. Too complicated to detail here, you can use various internet searches to discover this for yourself.
There is no searchable record of any statements made by Ms. Balint when 2.9 billion, that’s almost 3 BILLION records, including Social Security numbers, were stolen in a data hack and then made headlines in August of 2024. No record of any public outcry at that time or since. If Balint is that concerned about our data, why wasn’t she making a public outcry at that time? One would be safe in assuming it is because in fact, she really doesn’t care about the people of Vermont or the country for that matter. She likes to grandstand.
For Ms. Balint to intentionally subvert the truth by using inaccurate and mendacious verbiage as well as insinuation is reprehensible if not actual libel. It appears that she is trying to persuade Vermont citizens that this person, Elon Musk, is a threat to our system of government. A threat to our privacy.
Truly, discerning citizens of the State of Vermont will not be fooled by the misleading and erroneous email by Ms. Balint. The remaining citizens, well, it’s uncertain if they are able to be discerning, because they did manage to vote her back into office last November.
The rest of the discerning public in Vermont have already been very clear in their desires by making the largest state turnover of Democrat to Republican positions in 2024 in the most recent election. If Representative Balint believes she can circulate these statements without retribution, then maybe our work is not done. Our work is NOT done.

It’s clear the citizenry of not only the state of Vermont but of the country, will not tolerate corrupt and devious politicians any longer. But it doesn’t mean we get to “let someone else do the heavy lifting”. You have a responsibility as a citizen to continue to let the elected officials know how you would like them to represent you. REGARDLESS OF whether they do or do not. For if you do nothing… if you ignore… by your inaction, you are COMPLICIT in their machinations. We have the high ground… let’s use it. Go make your voices heard.

Well, a majority of Vermont voters put this self-proclaimed “scrappy little dyke” in office so why would anyone be surprised by her screeching activism. Someone should remind her that by saying all those nasty things about Elon, she is badmouthing an immigrant from Africa.

First, Elon Musk has a ‘top-secret security clearance’. He’s also a U.S. citizen. And, according to the Economic Times, only one of Musk’s so-called ‘hi-powered’ DOGE Team is a teenager – who happens to be a 19-year-old whiz-kid software engineer at Northeastern University in Boston, who interned at Musk’s Neuralink Corp., and is now “seen as an expert in his field”.
Am I ’cool’ with these folks having access to sensitive financial information? Compared to what alternative? How about former CIA Directors John Brennan and Leon Panetta, who lied about Hunter Biden’s laptop? How about National Intelligence Director James Clapper, who lied to Congress about collecting data on American citizens?
Yes, I’m ‘cool’ with Musk and his team having access. At least they’re accountable and telling us what they’re doing… especially when compared to commenters who obviously have no idea what they’re talking about.

You’re right. I should have left the comparison with National Intelligence Director, James Clapper, who lied to Congress (a felony) about collecting data on American citizens? Well, did ‘the people’ who exposed Musk’s team commit crimes? The Economic Times ran a full article on the Musk team, including biographical references on each person. Musk didn’t complain. No mention of ‘unmasking’ anyone. The team’s identity appears to be common knowledge – to anyone taking the time to do the research.
But did Musk complain about the disclosure of his team? Well, according to U.S. Attorney, Ed Martin, who is consulting with Musk on the disclosure, the law was broken in the process. Not because the team was named. But because the disclosure involved illegal access to a private X account, not to mention the resulting threats made against the team members. That was illegal.
Maybe next time you’ll figure this out before opining.

I’ll try to answer all three of you choads at once, who I have to say are way to excited to be able to say dyke. Right now, we have the House, Senate, Presidency and Supreme Court. Anything that conservatives want to get done, they can. So why not go through the Democratic process? That’s not what this is about. It’s about installing a techno-fascist regime that most of you will be long dead whereas the rest of us will get to enjoy a privatized government with few services for us, but also no less taxes either.

You seem to forget that President Trump did not just win the last election, but won by enough to be considered a mandate for his policies. You may not like that, but that is the reality ! The Republican party even made pretty significant inroads in Vermont, possibly the last bastion of wacky leftdom ! Maybe it’s about time you realized the reality of this political change. I am a 3rd, 4th, and even 5th generation Vermonter. and old enough to remember our 1st Democrat Governor, Phil Hoff, and how that was going to change Vt. forever. In my opinion, the far more important change was the migration of out of state Liberals that moved here since. Our politics, culture, and traditions have, and continue to change, and I have to say that in my opinion that change is not for the better ! The politics under the Golden Dome in Montpelier is ruled by out of staters that have little if any understanding of what it means to be a Vermonter ! Hell we even elected a demogoging Socialist from Brooklyn N.Y. to the U.S. Senate. Thanks for reinforcing the notion of Balint as a “DEI hire”. Balint and Kamala did well in Vermont but on the national scale, Kamala the diversity hire couldn’t pass the smell/sincerity test. It would be refreshing if an LGBT politician didn’t have to wear that identity on their sleeve but Balint proudly refers to herself as a “scrappy little dyke” and took in most of her campaign cash from LGBT advocacies, so for her it is a central theme in her public persona.

All I can say is I am amazed at the waste uncovered in USAID alone. You bleeding hearts cry about Vermont homelessness? I believe that President Kennedy established USAID in 1961 by executive order as an agency to assist foreign countries in recovery from disasters. Is there anybody here that has ever voted for the Chief Administrator of this agency ? So his position is more defensible than Elon’s which was also created by executive order ? Full disclosure, right now the “Acting Administrator” for USAID is the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio. Go Marco !

In a corporation where expenses are out of control, implementing a zero-based budgeting (ZBB) process is essential. Every single expense must be justified from scratch. Many costs get cut, and only after a thorough ZBB cycle do necessary expenses get added back.
Right now, the U.S. government is undergoing its own version of ZBB—and it’s necessary because spending is completely out of control. How can a government that mistakenly wires hundreds of millions of dollars to the Taliban claim to have its finances in order? Or have a Treasury dept. where employees have never not wired money? Over the last 20 fiscal years, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has reported $2.7 Trillion, yup, Trillion with a T, in “improper payments.”!!!!
This financial mismanagement was not caused by Elon Musk. And fixing it won’t be painless. He’s simply doing what any executive would when faced with a financial mess: start with ZBB and then rebuild. And if you’re mad at the person pointing out the waste, fraud and abuse and not at those who created it, (I’m looking at you Congress and unelected bureaucrats), then you are part of the problem.
In any human system, unchecked finances will spiral out of control. The GAO has been sounding the alarm for years, and large-scale financial systems require scaled financial management. Since the U.S. has the largest budget in the world, this will be the most complex ZBB process ever attempted.
Some states use ZBB, but it has never been done at the federal level. President Jimmy Carter tried, but the bureaucracy was too intricate, and President Ronald Reagan abandoned the effort. If there were ever a person suited to lead this monumental effort, the ideal choice would be one of the best capital allocators on the planet—ideally, someone who can also leverage AI and technical expertise to handle the immense complexity.
This transition will be disruptive. But never doubt Musk or Trump. They always seem to come out on top in the end. That and the louder the liberals cry the more certain you can be that Trump is on the right path.
Well put! These are my sentiments to her idiotic emails, and I’ve already replied to most of them. As for her knowing better, I take the cynical view that she does know the difference between Republic and Democracy, but the average citizen, I don’t believe, does. The words “threat to our democracy” has been implanted into our conscience for as long as Trump has been in and running for office by the mainstream media, that the term has to be perpetuated.

This is an excellent encapsulation of what our dear Congresswoman Balint is all about. I have been on her mailing list for a long time for the sole reason to track how she is poisoning the minds of uniformed electorate. I take the opportunity to send her carefully worded and “friendly” letters to try to help her understand her total misunderstanding of the issues she addresses. I send them to her Washington office on high quality stationary so she understands I made a respectful effort to communicate with her. Fat chance it could ever make a difference. She is in Congress for her own agenda, as so many of them are.
Like the old saying, “Keep your friends close, and your enimies closer”. I am also a firm believer in this .

It’s clear that the Mockingbird Media have been given their 4 AM talking points, and those are to attack Elon Musk, since they can’t seem to lay a glove on President Trump. Deny, divert, and try to change the subject, right? It’s the Demonrat playbook.
And, as sure as day follows night, here’s our Dear Becca bleating out the same message. Trust me, this woman is dangerous, and frankly, her potential scares me. If she manages to stay in office, we’re going to end up with Chuck Schumer, Pocahontas, Jamie Raskin, and AOC all rolled into one.

why oh why doesn’t Vermont send this intolerant leftist packing? She’s clearly more interested in her support for shadow governments: where no transparency and no accountability exists. She and other intolerant leftists are blue blazing mad now that their Government money laundering scheme has been discovered and now being dismantled. Musk and his crew can’t work fast enough in my view to terminate this wholesale theft of our income and property by Leftists such as Balint.
Keep in mind that Musk and his crew aren’t ‘terminating’ any programs.
Musk and crew are simply auditing those programs. They’re listing the line-item spending and the people receiving, and ostensibly benefiting from, that spending.
If, for example, the Trump administration and the American people believe a multi-million-dollar investment in an LGBTQ+ Sesame Street program in Iraq is worthwhile, so be it. Musk is merely giving us the opportunity to look behind the curtain of what appears to be the real ‘shadow government’ that may have been plaguing us for decades. And those who complain the about those audits are likely the same people who have benefited from that spending and have never been held accountable for it.
