Blames Trump, GOP for refusing to extend Obamacare

By Guy Page
The U.S. Senate advanced the possible beginning of the end of the government shutdown last night, thanks to three Democrat senators from Northern New England but no thanks to Vermont Senator Peter Welch.
The Senate reached the coveted 60 vote threshold last night when several shutdown-weary Democrats crossed the Progressive-led party line and voted to extend government funding through January in exchange for Sen. Majority Leader John Thune’s promise that a vote would be held next month on Democrat’s current sticking point: continued funding of Obamacare subsides.
The Democrat senators willing to work with Thune included Jean Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and Angus King of Maine.
Welch reportedly was in on the negotiations of this deal. He has been vocal about the shutdown on the Senate floor. He and Sen. Bernie Sanders had a deal right in front of them to open the government, keep the planes flying safely and the hungry fed.
Vermont’s two senators said no, and Welch blamed Donald Trump. He said on X last night:
“President Trump and Republicans refused to work with us to extend health care tax credits—now, millions of hardworking Americans will face higher premiums or lose coverage altogether.
“I voted no tonight.”
Before the vote Welch said, “Vermonters are being forced to make impossible decisions if Congress doesn’t extend the ACA credits. One family in Vermont is scrambling to figure out how to pay $40,000 more a year. One farmer in Vermont told me he’ll be forced to go without coverage entirely.”
The Republicans in the Senate and his northern New England Democrat peers held out the olive branch of negotiation and meeting in the middle and pledging to let the will of the people be done on Obamacare. Peter Welch said no.
On the food benefit front, Vermonters are receiving their benefits due to last-minute action by the Legislature. Nevertheless, traffic at food shelves is up. “We’re seeing people we’ve never seen before,” a worker at a Washington County food shelf told VDC yesterday. However, food donations are holding strong and there’s still food to give away – for now.
So it looks like the government shutdown dam has broken, or at least is breaking up. That’s good news. Because the federal employees keeping the planes from falling out the air – they are starting to break up. Here’s FAA Administrator Shawn Duffy, Cut 1
Welch, a former member of the Commerce Committee which has FAA oversight, is probably more aware of the dangers of air-traffic controller understaffing than most senators. He helped appoint former FAA administrator Michael Whitaker, and in June 2024 questioned Whitaker closely about whether Burlington International Airport had sufficient air traffic controller coverage.
VDC will stay on top of the government shutdown and what our members’ of Congress do to extend or resolve it.

Did anybody really think that Curly would vote differently from Larry ? As goes the beloved leader of the Vermont Socialists, so goes the rest of the sheep .
Move along, nothing new to see here.
…….”“I voted no tonight.”………..Yet over 62k voted for yes him… lol…
This site seems to be nothing more than a sounding board for the DC Club, aka “Republican” side… I think Patrick may have nailed it saying this….”so goes the rest of the sheep “….. Keep voting for the Duopoly and this is what you’ll get…..sorry, no offense intended….
New Hampshire Senators joined a single Independent from Maine and stepped up for their citizens. Vermont, of course, did not. Be more like New Hampshire, Bernie and Pete.
Maybe Bernie would’ve voted yes if his private plane got grounded 🙂
He probably wanted the shut down to last longer so he could continue to buy stocks when low then selling them once the government opened up for a huge profit, yet again.
Welch’s brain cells got shorted out long ago. Just another socialist from MA that wormed his way into VT. Hey Welch, I-91 goes south, take it and return to MA. What a waste. Bet he has enough money to stay in DC when and if he retires. Wonder if the ambulance chaser being in MA was kicked out of that state.
Hey, Peter, you feds have had the last 5 years to fund Obamacare and didn’t do it. You even had a majority for time in which to do it. If you want to find fault for this, look in the mirror.
Some socialist spoons are silver. Shocking.
Welch said there will be no SNAP BENEFIT for the holiday. Grandma and Grandpa will have to look at a turkey and then eat a can of hash. Sorry.
The bottom line: Sanders, Balint and Welch are all Swamp Rats and always will be period!! The three so-called Ludicrous Vermont Clowns 🤡 they are beyond Disgusting to say the least 🙄 👎👎🏿👎
Down the River with no paddle. Don’t you think 🤔 I do !!
Hey Balint you don’t look at your emails you are worthless in my book!!
Hopefully November 3rd 2026 we send your ass packing 🤪
Bert, When you do get a reply it is some off topic standard propaganda piece plus how she is defending ‘Democracy’
@ Ron, at least you got a response, I always got her auto response that she is/was short staffed, but she appreciated my reaching out… I didn’t think I could be so disgusted by anyone like I am about her.
Worth noting, all three vermont reps in d.c. are from out of state and all three are multimillionaires.
Now, you may want to watch the section eight vouchers payments and see if they get changed as that could put many seniors out of a home. The housing cartel have to have that government payment or they will go under.
“”Before the vote Welch said, “Vermonters are being forced to make impossible decisions if Congress doesn’t extend the ACA credits. One family in Vermont is scrambling to figure out how to pay $40,000 more a year. One farmer in Vermont told me he’ll be forced to go without coverage entirely.””
Well Welcher, I have no “coverage entirely”, because in late 2021 when you supported Biden’s over 100 employee OSHA vax rule, I got Covid and while I was out sick, the Supreme Court struck it down. My company however, shifted gears and still attempted to force me, so I quit my job of 42 years and lost health insurance. I’m glad, 5k + per year with a 10k deductible…what the hell good is that anyway??? Now I’m uninsured, retired, healthy and actually quite happy and I couldn’t care less whether or not I’m insured…and certainly don’t need ANY help from NY & NJ carpet baggers that purport to represent me.
Welch and Sanders are both owned by the pharmaceutical and medical companies. They have much to lose if these companies profits plummet. Don’t believe me check their donors and stock holdings. Give Balant time and she too will become part of the pack.
Welch cuts off his nose to spite his face, but, unfortunately, his virtue-signaling spite blinds him to the fact that he is hurting the very Vermonters he is ostensibly representing and fighting for.
All the grandstanding was over temporary funding – nothing was solved or fixed. It was simply delaying and placating by papering over deficit spending with more deficit spending.
Meanwhile, the market contagions keep popping up. Blackrock takes a 100% loss on a majority share of $150 million private loan? Chump change to Blackrock, but private equity firms rigging their books with credit swaps, sub-prime “private” lending and bogus valuations? Liquidity crisis? What liquidity crisis? Imagine the near end of a Janga game…
