Two held without bail, three released

By Guy Page
A gang of Burlington youth were arrested for a brutal gang assault in downtown Burlington in April.
Burlington police say that on April 28 at about 2 AM they responded to a report of a fight involving multiple people on Main Street. They found “multiple individuals” fleeing. One person remained on the ground.
Police say a group of individuals injured two people, one seriously. During the aggravated assault, personal possessions of both the victims were stolen. The altercation left one of the victims unconscious.
The case was assigned to the BPD’s Detective Services Bureau. After further investigation, the following suspects were identified: Abdirahman Mohammed, 22, of Burlington; Ibrahima Bangoura, 22, of Burlington; Ayub Mohamud, 23, of Winooski; Shuaib Mohamud, 21, of St. Albans City; and Kalell Picard, 19, of Essex Junction.
Between October 24 and October 28, all of the suspects listed above were taken into custody by BPD and arraigned.
Mohammed was taken into custody for Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault – at arraignment, he was held without bail. Since 2020, Mohammed has been involved in 35 incidents; 11 of them being violent assaults/incidents, 2 of them being homicides, and multiple being firearms related.
According to a December, 2022, news article by Mike Donoghue, Mohammed and Bangoura were both active participants in a fight that resulted in a stabbing death in Burlington. A man reportedly affiliated with the Crips gang and its drug distribution was arrested.
When taken into custody this week, Mohammed had been involved in a disturbance with the same victim and was in possession of a firearm on his person at that time and multiple other firearms were located in his vehicle.
Bangoura was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault – at arraignment, he was held without bail on violation of parole. Bangoura’s criminal history indicates: 1 failure to appear for court proceedings, 2 violations of court order or conditions, 1 felony conviction, 11 misdemeanor charges with 3 convictions, 2 of the charges were assaultive in nature, and 2 included the use of a dangerous or deadly weapon. Since 2020, Bangoura has been involved in 34 incidents; 6 violent assaults/incidents, one of them being a homicide.
A. Mohamud was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Assault and Simple Assault – he was released on the following conditions: 24-hour curfew in St. Albans; No contact with victims; Not have, buy or use any firearm or deadly weapon; May not come to the City of Burlington. A. Mohamud’s criminal history indicates: 4 felony charges, 3 misdemeanor charges, 1 of the charges with assaultive in nature, and the assault was on an officer. Since 2019, A. Mohamud has been involved in 35 incidents; 5 violent assaults/incidents, 1 of them being listed as a homicide, drug sales related incidents, and multiple being firearms related incidents.
S. Mohamud was taken into custody for Assault & Robbery and Simple Assault – at arraignment, he was released on the following conditions: 24-hour curfew in St. Albans; No contact with victims; Not have, buy or us any firearm or deadly weapon; Must not come to the City of Burlington. Since 2021, S. Mohamud has been involved in 8 incidents; 2 violent assaults/incidents, 1 of them being a homicide.
Picard was taken into custody for Aggravated Assault – at arraignment, he was released on the following conditions: Must remain in Essex Junction between the hours of 8:30 pm and 6:00 am; No contact with victims; Must not have any contact with any other co-defendants in Burlington. Since 2023, Picard has been involved in 14 incidents, 4 of them being violent assaults/incidents.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.

Welcome to the cesspool known as Burlington, progressive policies and handling of such altercations is now the norm on the streets.
Do what you want until you get caught, and then the punishment will be negligible
as you can see by these POS rap sheets, hold your elected officials accountable, if they can’t handle the job, they need to go, and from what I have seen and heard about Burlington, they should already be gone !!
Wake up people
For a while now Burlington has had a real dilemma on it’s hands of determining whether it has a problem with inherent racism in it’s police department or whether there is a statistically significant reality that persons of color are disproportionately involved in violent crime. Compounding that determination is a serious denial of being able to even have an objective discussion on the matter. Factual crime reporting in the media is under scrutiny as well, but in the interest of pubic safety, people really would like to know if there are some overt characteristics of persons who you may want to keep a safe distance from. That’s my tiptoeing around and walking on eggshells way of putting it, because who really wants to be that kid that points at the emperor and says that he is not wearing any clothes…?
National statistics highly corroborate what you are (wink, wink) trying to convey.
Muhhhhh….racism!
Guessing all but Picard has the same birthday- January 1st. Another winning story from our refugee resettlement program! Hey isn’t this an “affinity group”?
Hip HOP Hooray for “diversity”!!!!!! What a shocker.
Thank you, “RIGHTS AND DEMOCRACY VT”, the “grassroots” or leftwing Community Organizer group which the current LT. Governor is proudly associated with that seek to:
1.) Abolish Prisons.
2.) Bring Chronic lawsuits against VT alleging “racial bias” against arrests/convictions of criminals “of color”.
3.) Forcibly install DEI in government & all public institutions.
4.) Elect radical prosecutors who refuse to prosecute the majority of crimes
5.) Build large tracts of low-income housing & integrate them into middle-income (and above) neighborhoods as in Shelburne & Manchester.
6.) Legalize drugs & provide “safe” sites throughout the state for addicts to use.
7.) Forcing racial & ethnic & cultural “diversity” by actually enabling relocation of criminals/homeless/drug addicts into VT & assisting in their TRANSPORT here!!!!!!
And HERE is the RESULT. It’s “EQUITY”!
ENJOY, Vermonters.
ENJOY, New Hampshire —– These Saul Alinsky disciples are there as well!
6.) If drugs were legal, the gangs would have nothing to sell and they would go away. The CIA brings in the drugs. This is all by design. Arrest 1000 drug dealers, 1000 new drug dealers will take their place while the arrested keep the business going in prison. Legalizing and controlling drugs is the only solution to eliminating gangs, terrorists, and the like.
VermonterVermonter, the full legalization for small amounts thang has been tried out in Oregon and it has been disastrous, and since been rescinded. It created an attraction to many free range humans to migrate out there, just like the free motel program has done to Vermont, and we know how that has worked out.
@Rich Lachapelle – Words matter. Just because you don’t arrest someone for something doesn’t mean it’s “full legalization”. If it was “full legalization”, you would purchase your products in a climate controlled building from reputable and accountable business owners with insurance and liability.
There was no “full legalization” anywhere in the U.S.A since the early 1900s. Decriminalization is much worse than real legalization. Even just a prescription program from a doctor + increase penalties for illegal sales would be much better than unlimited money supply for terrorists and cartels, with all the great things those systems bring along with it. Unfortunately the government sells these drugs for dark secret programs, and they need these systems of control to use as a weapon against you.
Time to go fishing. Better and cheaper than using night crawlers. Do what the Mafia does with their enemies cement blocks tied to the ankles in the darkness. Vermont native justice, without the liberal legal system and save the town money.,These low-life are not human, they are predictors. The Legal system are illegals and greedy in their own right, avoid them otherwise the situation(s0 will continue. Noted the names, wonder if they read the Koran and wear rags for head dressing.
This is not an opinion, but a statement of truth.
Tom, really!! Are you offering reasonable actions or just throwing the rope over the limb?
John McC, I was seeking a solution for flushing the toilet on these gangsters. The trouble with the rope method is that it might bring back memories of the South and KKK being highly visible and a substance problem, being the after effect of disposing. The Mafia while violent was efficient and notable to the alike element. A night water deposit would be efficient and their buddies would wonder where Mohammed Jack was. Of course, methods need to be efficient. This is a serious matter. Vermont seems to attract suck low life. Clean the state. MVGA (Make Vermont Great Again)
We Italians have upgraded our system. We no longer use cement blocks and rope as our study has found the rope eventually deteriorates and the bloated body comes to the surface. We use 50-gallon drums. Insert body, fill with concreate, weld drum shut, drop in ocean. Beautiful.
The 3 feral animals released will eventually attempt to assault the wrong individual and will be promptly dealt with.
Just my opinion but, I think feral savages fits them better. Like my father used to say, “You can take the savage out of the jungle, but you can’t take the jungle out of the savage”, in this case, the concrete jungle.
I’m willing to bet these GANG members are actually “from” Burlington. The biggest crime though is not listed . . . the crime that they were still walking the streets to maim, rob, and kill.
Bill, we have been down this road before with the “g” word. The proper, woke term is “affinity group”. In this case, the affinity is of ethnicity as well as all having an inclination for committing violent crime.
I mentioned in a comment just the other day that part of our problem lies in letting the same scumbags loose time after time after time, with dozens and sometimes hundreds of prior “encounters with police”.
And right on cue, here comes this story. I didn’t do the math, but a rough guesstimate yields about 35 priors each for these fine, upstanding young men. And the oldest are only 22?!? They’ve been quite busy, wouldn’t you say?
Look, sooner or later, probably sooner the way things are going, Burlington will take the biggest financial hit it’s taken in at least the last 60 years. And the cause will be the drying up of tourism. Which will once and for all crush the city, and have a major impact on UVM as well. As it is already, there are more places in Burlington that I won’t go than those I still go. And I’m not alone in thinking that way.
So keep it up, you short-sighted Dem & Prog fools. You’ll be the last ones on the sinking ship USS Burlington. Why? Because all your houses you paid 3x true market value for will become un-sellable for anything but a huge loss, and you’ll be up the lake without a paddle. Your devotion to your woke, liberal agendas has obliterated any critical thinking skills you once had.
In the famous words of Charles Barkley, “I may be wrong, but I doubt it!”
Especially after these savages and their gangland friends discover the $800K plus homes off Speir Street. The rich liberal enclave where the residents believe they are insulated from the violent gangs that haven’t found them yet. Crime spreads by word of mouth. These are the people who vote for the progressives that are ruining your city.
It’s also a good case for the legislature to stop messing with our firearms rights. This is why 10 round magazines help the criminals. These guys operate as a savage team to overwhelm their victims. As the article says, one of the arrested subjects has numerous firearms in his car and he has numerous felony convictions some of which involve aggressive assault. So, the progressive brain trust writes laws to restrict law-abiding people and lets the savages run wild.
There are 5 in this crew, and they are no doubt affiliated with many more. Take the situation of a home invasion. They are not there to make friends; they are there to take what you have and forcibly if necessary. You have 10 rounds. The crew has whatever it wants. The police will write the report after the incident. Because the police are minutes or more away when seconds count. This is the reality; and gun free zones and safe storage don’t mean much when danger strikes. These guys should already be in jail but since the law doesn’t protect us we need to protect ourselves.
A little research showed me the Bangoura fella’s mother is one of the heads of Burlington School District’s DEI department. She’s pulling in well over 100k plus benefits to tell all employees in that district that they’re racist. As she cries “RACISM” her son is out destroying the city. Beating and robbing people, carrying and using guns, not showing up for court, and was even a player in a local homicide. This wonderful parent clearly knows how to raise a strong black son: strong moral compass, respect others, be accountable, community leader, etc. etc. etc. And this woman is in charge of an entire school district’s approach to young, non-white students? If you’re wondering, “what could go wrong” just watch the news and see her pet projects showing off what they’ve learned through DEI; committing crimes, often violent, all over town. She and the others bilking the taxpayers in that DEI realm, should be sent packing. Bad behavior and crappy test results are their product. Voila, I just saved a million dollars.
Phil, are you positive about this? If this is true, then at least part of the solution would be to go after the mother, as in remove her from her job. If she’s an “at-will” employee, it would be easy. If she’s on contract, chances are it’s year to year, so just tell her she won’t be renewed.
I know, every parent can’t be perfect and exceptions for the stupid acts of some children have to be allowed, but there ought to be a hard stop when it comes to gang activity (and some others). It seems likely that most of these kids had one parent households or absent parent households growing up.
“You’re fired!! Get out of here!!'”
We do have legal precedent to bring criminal charges against parents who “allow” access of guns to their miscreant children. Bringing them up to BE miscreants seems to fit in the same category. A gun is a specific tool. The person who chronically bears ill will against others is themself a weapon. Either we blame the child/teen or we blame the parent criminally. The violent acts perpetrated by these savages is not some kind of natural disaster.
Send in the bounty hunters.
This really belongs at the feet of the citizens of Burlington. They are culpable given their virtue signaling voting patterns. They never consider the consequences of their voting behaviors and need to see the full effects of the mayhem they continue to unleash on citizens. Where are the street demonstrations and outrage by these very same citizens calling for increased safety? for applying the law for the laws that are broken? (hint: nowhere…) – These are the same citizens who want more gun laws but ignore the facts that there’s apparently no consequences for those that break the laws already in place. It really is a sad testament to a once great and safe city. My family and I continued to avoid it.
I find it sad that VDC published racist photos of these poor misguided youths in their hoodies. Couldn’t you at least find photos from their Vermont high school yearbooks.
They are good boys, very good boys.
hi JV – funny you should mention that, the apparent ringleader was a soccer star at BHS, my alma mater. I know you’re speaking tongue-in-cheek. As for me, I’m appalled about the apparent little to no response by local and city officials to discuss and address the causes and preventative solutions to crime by young males from refugee families.
It seems the leftists defund the police tactics are working to destroy our country and our state.
You are looking to cure by chasing the effects rather than the cause. The police are not de-funded, they have plenty of funding. Every government apparatus has plenty of stolen money, and that always get more and more. You are no different from the left, “take more money from us for the thing I like”. This is a big trick by the establishment to get you to beg for your enslavement. If the police did law enforcement, they would be at the state house arresting the highest of criminals. They just had a bank robber right down the road from the police station with only a 30 second lead time of escape, and still couldn’t do anything about it. They had foot patrol right in front of where there was a shooting at the bar the other day. Stop falling for their tricks and look for cures using your own brain.
If you saw the video by Peter Santonello, one of the hilariously sad moments was the business owner woman describing the vagrants on her doorstep, in the alley, the drugs, the crime, the fear, the damage to business…
…and blaming it on Trump and J6.
You can’t fix the broken stupid in Burlington.
A few years ago a heartwarming story came out about a Somali refugee who did well in school, coached soccer and acted as a mentor to Burlington’s youths of color. The Boys and Girl’s Club awarded him a college scholarship. Then he and his brother ended up becoming engaged in the opioid trade with it’s associated violence. If someone can come up with a positive story about “new Americans” in Vermont who came from Somalia, i would really be interested to see it. So far, just garbage people (because of our current President, that descriptor is now fair game). There, I said it.
Why does UVM’s Stephanie Seguino still have any credibility? If there is a single person who has seeded and helped this crime wave and loss of public safety it is her, on our dime….. https://www.uvm.edu/news/story/vermonts-bipoc-drivers-are-most-likely-have-run-police-study-shows
Amazing that our supposedly most learned folks, college professors can be so ignorant. Some, like Seguino have trouble understanding the most basic concepts, such as that a disparity does not necessarily result from a bias. Science and statistics dont matter to liberals, only ideology. If a “group” of individuals are targeted more often by police, it is actually possible that they engage in more traffic infractions and/or crime.
Welcome to one of hundreds of Blue Cities that are dominated by a George Soro’s initiative to destabilize America. A process not to change laws, but if He gets the right people elected (Mayors, District Attorneys, Attorney General, even Judge appointments) laws don’t need to be changed. The guilty will get a wrist slap, and then returned to the streets to commit more violent crimes. Especially if they are illegal Aliens, and shouldn’t be in this country to begin with. The violent go free and America city by city (big and small) become destabilized. Part of the action initiative that comes straight from THE ART OF WAR.
Amongst an obvious inability to incarcerate repeat violent offenders, Burlington is apparently a hotbed of shoot-outs in bars with guns, and so Burlington’s leaders believe that they need to ban firearms in bars. This question will be put to Burlington voters on Town Meeting Day.
If passed, it would be a Charter change, which would mean it would have to be approved by the Legislature. However, this was previously proposed and failed because it ran afoul of state law. Per Vermont Law, a municipality can ONLY regulate the discharge of firearms and nothing else. This approach prevents a patchwork of differing laws across the state in regard to firearms.
Any bets as to whether Burlington, who supported de-funding their Police, will pass such a proposal?
Burlington bar owners and restaurateurs: You may not think about the number of honest and law-abiding Vermonters who conceal carry everyday, or otherwise have firearms in their vehicles, but if that law passes: It will likely insure that good folks will never set foot in your establishment.
Assuming of course that they even opt to roll the dice and visit Burlington in the first place.
The Progressive women who wanted this should be visited by these poor, misunderstood youth.
