Police make arrest in Jan. 23 St. J slaying

A 15-year-old from Springfield, MA has become the second Vermont teen in the last four months to be charged in adult court for murder.
The Caledonian-Record reports that Mohamed Said, 15, a Maine native now living in Springfield, MA, has been charged with felony second-degree murder in connection with the January 23 St. Johnsbury killing of Christina Chatlos, 38, of Barre and Williamstown.
Said is now detained in Massachusetts. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
According to police reports published by the Caledonian-Record, Said was one of two youths involved in the shooting, which took place on a street near a school.
A witness said shots were fired, then he/she heard one of the two youths say he was going to kill Chatlos, who was sitting in a car. He put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger, the witness said. Chatlos died of gunshot wounds to the torso, police say.
Chatlos’ connection, if any, with Said is not clear – whether as an unfortunate bystander or as a specific target. Chatlos was arrested on drug charges in Graniteville in 2022 and in Barre in 2020.
In October, Hussein Mohamed, 14, of Burlington – also the son of New American refugees – was charged with the second-degree murder of another teen in Bristol.

How does a 15-year-old obtain a firearm? (Well, actually I know how he got it)
If the gun control politicians can’t stop a 15-year-old from getting a gun, then all their gun control laws really don’t work. It’s all about disarming the honest, law-abiding citizens from having one because we are a threat to their power. The criminals are not. The criminals are their foot soldiers.
So now we know exactly how criminals get guns.

Gun storage law didn’t stop it,
72 hour waiting period didn’t stop it.
Locked door didn’t stop it.
Gun safe didn’t stop it.
I guess the only “common sense gun law” that hasn’t been tried to stop this kind of illegal activity is total confiscation from the law-abiding…that ought to do it.

A 14 year old and a 15 year old – both charged with murders in Vermont. How tragic and deeply saddening all around. Yet, the Vermont Legislature and Adminstration will not put a stop to it – which they very well know they can – dispicible despots – the day of reckoning is not escapable for those with the blood and responsiblity on their hands.
Not sure what “son of new American refugees” means for his immigration status, but if he wasn’t born here and never naturalized or his parents never naturalized, we might be able to return this one to his homeland after his sentence. You cool with that libs?

“New American” is a leftist term invented by people who prefer illegal immigrants to Americans. It should only be used in quotes. 14- and 15-year-olds charged with murder in Vermont. So sad, and those that allowed 9this need to be held accountable.

I personally wouldn’t characterize this man (and that’s what he is) as a “Vermont teen”, a more apt description might be interstate drug runner who happened to deliberately kill somebody in the course of his illegal activity in Vermont, but I know that doesn’t roll off the tongue quite so easily. It’s remarkable that what (to me) appears to be 1st degree murder has a potential sentence of “up to 20 years in prison”! How does taking another’s life not add up to forfeiture of the life of the assailant???
