Air National Guard to perform July 4 flyover

Celebrate Independence Day with a sky-high salute! The 158th Fighter Wing of the Vermont Air National Guard will mark this 4th of July with a spectacular F-35 flyover.

The flyovers have been planned to coincide with some towns’ Independence Day celebrations. Both the Colchester and the Jeffersonville flyovers, for example, will occur during the towns’ holiday parade. Although Essex Junction festivities don’t begin until the evening, the flyover is scheduled to follow a flight path over Maple Street, the Five Corners, and Pearl Street, home of the Champlain Valley Fairgrounds.

The VTANG Facebook page urges readers to “share this post and spread the word! Let’s make this Fourth of July unforgettable. Happy 4th, everyone!”

The flyover will become an annual event. VTANG officials urged interested people to “please reach out next year if you would like to see a flyover in your home town.”

  1. Gee, no request from Burlington? Thank you to the 158th Fighter Wing for what is always a dazzling display of air power, and thank God they are on “our side”. There is no better thunder on Independence Day than that produced by a Pratt and Whitney afterburning turbofan.

  2. Hats off to our men in Blue! I worked on the flight line at P.A.F.B. 1976-1979 380th OMS and there is nothing more intense than viewing a FB-111 taking off in full AB from the distance of 100 ft while sitting in a Launch 1 metro van parked on the taxiway. The walls of the van were literally vibrating. Awesome experience it was. Sadly, all the FB-111’s have been decommissioned.

  3. The guard does a bit of night training over Waitsfield/Warren …..I love hearing them. You guys are welcome anytime! The parade in Warren is tomorrow….maybe a detour?
As they say…The Sound of Freedom!!

  4. Just so you know how your tax dollars are spent, flying a single F-35 runs up hourly operating cost of $30,000-35,000, per jet-flying hour. And the cost of each one those F35A jets is more than $100 million apiece. The 158th Fighter Wing’s operating expenses alone cost an average estimate of $169,000,000 on “defense” every year.

    • Unfortunately (or fortunately) I look at it that way too. That is a huge taxpayer expense for an aircraft, fuel, pilots and ground crew on a holiday probably getting double time pay, etc, plus a bit more emissions into the air. The huge amount of money spent on fireworks everywhere is also a somewhat wasteful expense, considering that those funds could be spent elsewhere where it would be of more benefit.

    • OMG!!!! TO BOTH YOU AND CONCERNED TAXPAYER, THANK YOU FOR YOUR REMARKS. YOU CERTAINLY KNOW HOW TO PUT A DAMPER ON CELEBRATING THE NATION’S BIRTHDAY. I GUESS I’M JUST GOING TO STAY HOME BECAUSE I CERTAINLY DONT WANT TO BE PART OF KNOWING WE ARE WASTING TAXPAYER’S MONEY. AND I CERTAINLY DON’T WANT TO BE PART OF PUTTING MORE EMISSIONS IN THE AIR. I HOPE YOU BOTH HAVE A GREAT 4TH HIDING IN YOUR BEDROOM.

    • This counts as training time so the money was going to spent anyways might as well see what we pay for. It could also help boost recruitment for the military,

    • Money well spent, if they weren’t here there would be a loss of over 300 jobs.

    • Like as opposed to the millions/trillions that we’ve sent over to the Ukraine to ‘protect their borders from Russia while ours have been left WIDE OPEN for Countries emptying out their jails and mental institutions sending them here to America!…
Do you know that Venezuela has declared their LOWEST CRIME RATE IN OVER 20 YEARS because they sent the scum of their Country here to America!???…
Seriously some of you need to keep up with what’s going on around the world, not just in your own little sandbox!!!…

  5. Pamela: The FBI data also shows a 59% reduction in the U.S. property crime rate between 1993 and 2022, with big declines in the rates of burglary (-75%), larceny/theft (-54%) and motor vehicle theft (-53%). That’s the lowest in 30 years! Those committing the crimes usually aren’t the immigrants. 150 years of U.S. Census data and found immigrants were consistently less likely to be incarcerated than people born in the U.S. “A surprising finding was the extent to which immigrants with lower levels of education today are significantly less likely to commit crimes than their U.S.-born counterparts,” Northwestern University economist Jácome. Of all the school shootings, none have been committed by undocumented immigrants. Where’s your outrage there? Also the “money” for Ukraine is going to US based companies supplying the arms to Urkraine. Cash is not going to Ukraine. Stop listening to the orange turd. You need to wake up and learn the facts.

  6. The sound of freedom………………………………………………..

    • Yes it is the sound of freedom, love hearing it over Grafton and Weston Vermont. Bless the VTAirNational Guard, keep flying with honor.

  7. Any chance they’ll land and scoop up some treasounous belligerent occupiers? Maybe it’s a practice run – word has it we are at the def con level highest alert. Happy “Independence” Day – if in name only.

  8. Nice! Might want to recheck the map locations of Quechee and Wilder Vermont.
The are essentially due east of Fairhaven.

  9. I’ll gladly pay for the fly overs and fireworks if it pisses off the liberals 🙂

  10. A comment in the context ““Just so you know how your tax dollars are spent, flying a single F-35 runs up hourly operating cost of $30,000-35,000, per jet-flying hour. Really, it gives an uplifting of spirits, something to rejoice. The guy seems more content putting down small military displays than Biden’s spending in the Ukraine, the illegals, inflation, etc that is the real cost to Americans. I winter in Pensacola FL where the Navy’s Blue Angles are housed at Sherman Field. Many Naval aviators got their flight training there (John McCain, ex). They hold practice performances every Tues & Weds mornings at 8am, free. They will sign autographs and meet them at the huge Naval Air Museum afterwards. Then there’s the Air Force Thunder Birds. All performances are overwhelming and scheduled and wanted.
So to pick on a small over fly by the local National guard is so trivial, mindless, in a box thinking, like living as does a woodchuck in a hole without seeing the sun. Not putting the fellow down, just suggesting to open his world.
I was in the Air Force and no greater experience than seeing the refuelers and bombers taking off and landing. I flew on them (with nukes) and maintained them and heavily appreciated being part of that world. Get a life.
