Supreme Court restores Addison County prosecutor’s law license
Bennington legislator faces fourth-try arraignment in Barre this Thursday

The Vermont Supreme Court Friday, April 19 restored the law license of Addison County State’s Attorney Eva Vekos.
Also, Rep. James Carroll (D-Bennington) will be arraigned in Washington County Superior Court this Thursday, April 25, more than two months after he was cited for DUI outside of the Vermont State House.
Vekos’ law license had been suspended following her arrest for DUI after allegedly driving impaired to a crime scene in Bridport in late January. The license was suspended because the Court said she had not responded adequately to its request for information.
But the April 19 statement said that problem has been resolved, so Vekos can now practice law, including trying cases in court – a task relegated to her two deputies during her suspension.
“Disciplinary Counsel agrees that respondent has replied to his prior inquiries about the reasons, nature, and causes of her now-concluded medical leave. Consequently, Disciplinary Counsel does not oppose respondent’s request to dissolve the interim suspension,” the court said Friday.
Carroll’s arraignment is the latest in several scheduled court appearances since police stopped him as he pulled his car into a state parking lot at the so-called Pink Lady, a historic multi-story building which serves as the home for the Joint Fiscal Affairs Office at 1 Baldwin Street.
After processing Carroll, city police said they ordered him to appear in Vermont Superior Court in Barre at 8:30 a.m. March 7 on the DUI charge. According to a report in the Bennington Banner, that hearing was postponed until April 4 because Carroll was in rehab. A big snowstorm closed the court on April 4. A miscommunication that the judge acknowledged was the court’s fault resulted in Carroll’s no-show on the scheduled arraignment on April 11.
A court official told VDC this morning that he is scheduled to be arraigned this Thursday, April 25.
In March, about two weeks after his arrest, Carroll lost his bid for re-election to the Bennington selectboard.

life is hard for public officials//// they are good boys and girls//// they want to thank you for the taxes you pay to buy their booze/// please keep supporting your best and brightest////
Anyone who consumes alcohol, a legal, widely promoted and easily available product can be the victim of a “bad ice cube” and get a DUI. However, the distinctions in the case of Eva Vekos are manifold:
-she is the State’s Attorney…the highest ranking law enforcement officer in her county and should know better and be setting the example, as she is tasked with prosecuting others for the same offense.
-she failed to cooperate in the booking procedure.
-she obviously lied when she used the old excuse that “I only had one glass of wine”, and she knows that giving false information to a police officer is a crime.
-she openly disparaged law enforcement officers who acted lawfully in their sworn duties, and publicly stated that she experiences a discomfort dealing with them. Working cooperatively with LEOs is a prerequisite for her position as prosecutor, and this OVERT BIAS AGAINST POLICE makes her incapable of effectively performing her duties.
-she pulled the tired, predictable, “I’m a victim of a substance abuse disorder” defense and then has her attorney claim that the details are no one’s business.
She should not only be forced from office, but lose her license to practice law.
Using every form of “democrat immunity” shows that she has attempted to abuse her position and seek solace from a politically-biased ideological scenario…simply pathetic.
Well, am I seeing a pattern here, it seems like these DemocRATs must be under a lot of pressure, and they should be, DWI should be taken seriously, it’s no laughing matter and these two clowns should be setting an example, instead they are part of the problem !!
But I guess the Supreme Court doesn’t see this as a concern from one of our top officials and restores the prosecutor’s law license, now that’s real justice, anyone else would be sitting behind bars…………………….. two-tier justice.
Wake up people,
