To the Editor:
It seems to me that $34.5 million is more than enough to settle 67 clergy misconduct lawsuits especially since no clergy has ever been convicted of a crime in these cases.
The State of Vermont changed its statute of limitations law to allow 119 more cases to be added to the lawsuit. Why aren’t the perpetrators of the crimes held accountable? The laity of the church did not commit these crimes. Why should they have to pay? What other group of people like teachers, scout leaders, legislators make the entire group pay for the crime of one.
You don’t have to be Catholic to realize something is very wrong with our legal and judicial systems to allow these cases to continue to bankrupt The Diocese of Burlington.
-Dorothy R. Bolduc
Editor’s note: the Catholic Diocese of Burlington Chapter 11 bankruptcy case, in 2024 filed in response to the payments referenced above. According to media reports, creditors are requesting sale of church property.

Yes, plaintiffs want the diocese to sell all the churches and the proceeds awarded to them. The faithful will then have to attend services in rented warehouses, fields, etc. The number of attendees at these services will naturally decrease a lot which is what plaintiffs and their lawyers want. Though I was abused by a priest, I am so glad I was given the grace of forgiveness and not sue him or the church. Hence psychologically unconflicted, it made reentry into the church so much easier many years later after a long sojourn as a pagan. I have met many wonderful priests since then and have received innumerable graces reinforcing my decision to forgive.
Just another plan to secularize the state, and the Catholic Church is the strongest, so that’s where they’re starting.
There certainly are struggles in our state.

It’s an anti-Jesus dog pile, and a pro-cultural Marxism atmosphere.
Rules for Radicals is our playbook, not the bible, tis the ground that has been sown by those of the subversive mind set.
Bankruptcy is not all that should happen ….. pedophiles have flocked to the church to hide who they really are and the church did nothing except protect them for decades …. I hope the Catholic Church hands over every penny they have and vanishes from existence …. That’s still not enough ….
Now the pedophiles just dress up like slutty women and go to libraries to read stories to young children, calling it “expressive art”…
There are two school districts in Chittenden County over the last 10 years which dealt with teachers who engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with students. The teachers were given clean resumes to go and pursue their careers elsewhere, and no lawsuits resulted. If a Priest committed an inappropriate act, then sue the Priest. This ongoing targeting of the seat of Christianity is beyond appalling and is nothing more than political grandstanding in a state increasingly being run by vindictive, delusional, Godless commies.
