# of departing House chairs grows to six
By Guy Page
Two Democrats, Amanda Janoo of Burlington and Aly Richards of Montpelier, are competing for the nomination for governor and the uphill task of trying to unseat Republican Gov. Phil Scott in November. The ‘nation’s most popular governor’ first won election in 2016 and is seeking a sixth term.
Richards (who grew up on a dirt road in Newbury, her campaign video says) first came to Vermonters’ attention as the leader of Let’s Grow Kids, the advocacy group behind Act 76, the 2023 law that raised about $120 million in its first year to subsidize childcare.
Whatever most voters think about subsidizing childcare with a share of their earnings, Act 76 was clearly a hit with mothers with children at home. Childcare still isn’t free but it’s reportedly more available and affordable than before Act 76.
A Richards campaign ad released last week shows her playing the Governor Mom role. Her kitchen – peanut butter jar and all – is her stage as she pitches Vermonters on why Scott was wrong to veto the data center bill.
Is data center siting an issue moms, or for that matter most Vermonters, are passionate about? Maybe, maybe not – but it’s clear that when Phil Scott takes his Number 14 race car persona on the campaign trail, in his rear view mirror he’ll see (at least before the August 11 primary) a backpack stuffing, sandwich-making Mom Would Be Governor.

If you’re a Democrat, you’re ok with mutilating children. ‘Nuff said.
I don’t trust democrats period. Although I don’t care for Scott but, as the saying goes “the devil you know is better than the one you don’t”….
We saw in the Virginia Governors race with Spanburger how grossly Democrat Women lie to gain power, promise nice mom and turn into a dictatorial witch to further Communist agenda after being sworn in
I don’t need a mother in government.
She won’t get my vote for sure. I am opposed to Act 76. I do not think it is right to put the burden of childcare on the taxpayers. Vermont pays enough for kids upbringing through the education system. I paid my own child care when I worked and I also paid for their lunch or they went with one from home. I paid for private kindergarten that was taught by my mother-in law, a retired teacher. A local privately owned social club donated the space. Society is getting greedy. The mentality is “giveme, giveme giveme” and I want, I want, I want.
Once again, the Dems are on the wrong side of an issue. They let their political philosophy over take common sense and reason. But it is too be expected, especially form this women, if that’s an modern appropriate term, whose career is taking money from one group to give to others, just because.
Her philosophy is simple Maxism. We can expect from her taking more of our money and giving it to her political constituents. First they create unsustainable economic programs, like our education system. They they create another program to subsidize people that can’t afford the unsustainable program. All of which add to the unsustainable cost of living in Vermont.
She practices the age ole Dem policy of banning things they can’t comprehend or passing laws to protect absurd idea that don’t pass the common sense test.
If you have problems with power consumption of water for cooling then tell the Data Center people to address the problems not to impact the grid or the environment; space is not an issue.
This woman is unaware that these Data Centers bring Jobs, improve the economy and more people to tax.
Yep, she a Dem alright.
The real issue, their Don Quixote joust with climate change use of wind and solar are in conflict with there vision and woefully inadequate to handle these new endeavors,
