On May 4, state troopers with the Berlin Barracks received a report of a recovered truck that had been taken from a home in Williamstown. Subsequent investigation revealed Guy Miller (20), no fixed address, had operated the truck without James Stone’s (65), legal owner, consent.
With the assistance of Berlin Police Department, Miller was located and issued a citation to appear in the Washington County Superior Court on June 4.
Miller is also under arrest as the suspect in an April 30 nighttime car break-in spree in Montpelier. On May 1, the Montpelier Police Department began investigating a series of reported vehicle break-ins that occurred overnight on April 30 in downtown Montpelier neighborhoods.
Multiple victims reported that their vehicles had been entered and items stolen, including tools, electronics, and identification documents. The total reported value of stolen items across the incidents exceeded $3,000.
Through the investigation, officers obtained surveillance footage from a nearby property. The footage showed two individuals entering multiple vehicles in the affected areas. One of the individuals was identified as Guy Miller, 20, transient, based on prior law enforcement encounters.
On May 1, shortly after noon, Miller was located by officers in the area of Barre Street and Main Street. He was taken into custody, and property believed to be connected to the thefts was seized as evidence.
Miller was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Criminal Court to answer to charges of Grand Larceny, Accessory to the Commission of a Felony, and Unlawful Trespass into a Motor Vehicle.
The Montpelier Police Department reminds the public to remove valuables from vehicles and ensure vehicles are locked, even when parked in residential areas.
