Many Chronicle readers have taken umbrage at John Bossange’s recitation of alleged statements uttered by President Donald Trump that – Bossange and the original journalists say – demonstrate our Chief Executive is a racist, sexist, bigot.
They wonder why VDC even published it.
I published Bossange’s commentary because 1) VDC is a free speech forum, not a conservative echo chamber and 2) his original op-ed claimed Trump was all of those awful things but didn’t show the receipts. I challenged him to do so. Which, after a fashion, he did.
I could certainly dispute both the factual accuracy and spin of the mainstream media reporting he cites via Wikipedia. For example, it’s long since been disproven that Trump meant the Ku Klux Klan troglodytes at Charlottesville as some of “the good people on both sides.” The constant repetition of this canard smacks less of demonstration and more of desperation.
But what really surprises me is that so few Vermonters take the time to write op-eds to the Chronicle about what they like about Donald Trump. So this morning, in the interests of equal time and respectful discussion, I do.
No-one defends everything alleged to have been said by our ever-vocal, opinionated President, especially statements made before he was (first) elected president. But I defend, applaud and hold up as a standard for future presidents his values and record of achievement.
Donald Trump values human life. Simply put he hates war. He hates killing innocent people of any country. He hates seeing soldiers die, be they Ukrainian, Russian, or (God forbid) American. He’s happy to wield the sword to kill people trying to kill Americans. Isis, the mullahs of Iran, and Venezuelan drug lords have learned this. He’s not fine with sending American troops to die in sandboxes for oil we’re too hypocritical to pump from our own lands and offshore waters.
Donald Trump is the real author of the Abraham Accords and numerous other agreements that have reduced or ended seemingly endless global conflicts. He does not accept the status quo, whether it’s a poorly built skating rink in New York City or endless war.
In part because he hates oil wars, Trump loves unleashing American energy production. Lots and lots of it in all of its various forms. He knows that energy is power is freedom. A dearth of energy constricts economic and personal freedom. So….drill, baby drill. And split atoms. And (responsibly and affordably) dam rivers, burn coal, and convert wind and sun into electricity. Clean, safe, affordable and reliable energy is the lynchpin of American prosperity, especially in the coming AI Age.
Donald Trump upholds and defends the Constitution. In real time. Look no further than the first two amendments of the Bill of Rights: Free Speech and the Right to Bear Arms. Donald Trump practices the first without restraint. Sometimes without enough restraint. But he does not countenance the abridging of lawful, necessary speech about public health and race relations, as his opponents did with Covid-19 and DEI. And he resists every effort to take away lawful gun rights.
Donald Trump also has acted on Americans’ plea for more public safety in our cities. And closing the border. And reducing the supply of illegal drugs and punishing the drug dealers. Americans have longed for these things for decades. Donald Trump is the first president to really try to fix these seemingly intractable problems. Are the measures sometimes too harsh? Maybe sometimes. But he’s using the immense powers of the executive branch to move us in the right direction.
And finally…. Donald Trump is not a budget deficit fatalist. His tariffs are an effort to think and act outside the box to someday reduce outgoing spending to match income revenue.
So tweet away, Mr. President – just keep doing all the good things you’re doing. And readers – it’s okay for you to speak up about the president, too. Whether in letters to the editor, or op-eds, or comments.
And speaking of comments – as of January 1, 2026, only Sustaining Subscribers will be able to publish comments on VDC. Reading VDC will always remain free to all, but due to the growing cost of production we must require readers who avail themselves of our comments platform to pay for the added value. Thanks Guy, for setting the record straight. This is why I enjoy this paper. Instead of being fed the pablum the lamestream media feeds to their sheeple you use facts to substantiate your opinion. And we get to decide.
Perhaps Guy Page will reach TDS afflicted (RINO) Republicans like Phil Scott. John Rogers, Paul Dame, and various Vermont legislators, to finally (…finally!!) come to their senses.
…..Don’t hold your breath though H. Jay! We would all miss you…….
🙏
Glenda Blair wrote the book,”the Trumps” a few years ago then added more to it when he ran the first time then rereleased it. She told me she didn’t make much money on the book. I asked how much she made for all the interviews and guest appearances she made she didn’t answer. When libs make money from writing about Trump, they really hate to admit it. She hates Trump but made money anyway. Trump said in an interview that she never spoke to him at all about her book. FYI
The John Bossange Trump column was nothing more than a reinteration of long debunked nonsense. Misquotes, third party misattributations, out-of context excerpts. Publishing it hurts the credibility of VDC badly. It never should have seen the light of day.
Of course, that is only your opinion.
I didn’t like the Bossange article either but he should be able to share his opinions if he wants. I don’t know what I was thinking in my last post. Just a dizzy old man, I guess.
Trump Utterly Ridiculous Derangement Syndrome afflicts so many.
What a bunch of TURDS
For Bossange, being afflicted with a particularly virulent strain of TDS is still no excuse to wander across the bounds of slander and libel. The intent is to besmirch Trump, but the actual result is his own credibility suicide. If his writings provide some level of comfort to his tortured soul, then so be it. I will just consider the virtue-signaling drivel from this moonbat retired educator to be comedic, and to take it in the same way that I enjoy the musings of the Babylon Bee. Keep it coming, John…as painful as it is to see someone suffer from a serious mental ailment like TDS, I always enjoy a good laugh.
Agreed. The masses are exposed to more than enough propaganda within lamestream & social media daily. Not every outlet should participate, but alternate sites & broadcasters often work tirelessly to grovel to these persistent liars trying to prove how “tolerant” they are by providing them yet ANOTHER voice.
People like Bossange just laugh and accept the opportunity for yet another soapbox upon which to deceive the uninformed.
NOT a good idea. But it shall continue. Most conservatives like thinking they are liked.
They’re not of course. They are being used.
I LOVE the Bossange diatribes, which admirably demonstrate the strength of the TDS-inflicted. (Which, unfortunately, includes leadership of the VT GOP. For some rea$on….
Well said, Guy. History will be a lot kinder to DJT than his detractors can imagine.
More Epstein news being released DRIP, DRIP, DRIP. Now what just happened in Japan that could test the bond markets???? Trump may be riding a freight train to a major money problem. Remember, Vermont loves to issue more government debt with bonding and all Vermonters must pay for all this debt.
One more thing that Trump could do, is when the next car from Springfield Mass. comes over the Vermont border loaded with drugs, just bomb them. Vermonters will support you.
A guy from VT got rid of two drug dealers and the Feds want the death penalty. Have to level the playing field, drug dealers want to kill, so respond likewise. Educate prosecutors.
I get a kick out of the John Bossange diatribes. Just reading his stuff tells you that all he does is watch MS-Now and CNN with his pajamas on and then hits the word processor. What’s scary is this guy was a schoolteacher and he was poisoning kids with his communist crap.
Thank you, Guy. When I try to attribute positive actions by Trump, I usually get shut off or get the evil eye. I even had one TDS close cousin write to me “We need to talk, I need to set you straight” after she read a Facebook post. You have summed up perfectlly what I attempt to say. I am going to quote your sentiments with quotation marks on many a future post…great ammunition worded in such a positive real way. I just signed up for 2 more years…
Thank you Joe! I am fascinated by the responses and may do a follow-up on them.
Could be worse, could have Cackling Kamala and Tampon Tim. But some people adore their party as if it was their religion.
Trump may be crude at times, but like the saying goes; actions speak louder than words. He’s doing everything I voted for and then some.
He can’t help his demeanor. I know. I’m originally from Queens too. Thank God I was raised around NYC. Thank God I’m out of there.
Essentially Trump is giving back what he gets. Don’t mess with New Yawka’s. They’re tough, they can hold grudges, and they don’t back down.
Most people aren’t used to that. Especially folks from ‘ol Vermont. But as you state, he also tends to keep his word, be “brutally” honest, actually abhors hatred & violence, and is willing to help anyone who needs it.
For a good laugh, read John Bossange writing to VDC in March, 2024. He doesn’t fall very far from the TDS tree.
@Kathleen J Gaffney
Having read your comment, I realize now that with all the nonsence coming out of Montpelier, I’ve been developing a very strong New Yawka attitude.
Good for you!
Make sure to tell ’em: “Don’t make me have to go New York on you’s”!!!!
After seeing the surviving members of Kiss standing in the Oval office, a truly surreal moment. Right then, I concluded I have no idea what is going on anymore. It is just a ride – maybe calling up the Kiss Army could straighten things out…before we hit Rock Bottom….rock on comrads!
“Donald Trump values human life.” This is the guy who is OK with killing non-combatants in the ocean. This is the guy who is OK with millions of Americans losing their medical coverage leading to severe injury and death. This is the guy who is OK with a CDC director issuing directives contrary to all the major medical associations. This is the guy who is OK with terminating USAID resulting in millions in Africa.
“Trump loves unleashing American energy production.” The future of energy is solar. This guy is OK to continue subsidizing the big oil companies and letting China become the world leader in future energy production.
“Donald Trump upholds and defends the Constitution.” This is the guy whose dozens of actions have been struck down by the courts. Although he calls them “activist judges,” many were his own appointments.
“Donald Trump is not a budget deficit fatalist.” Despite Trump I and Trump II recording historic deficits and cutting programs at home, this guy can come up with $20 billion taxpayer dollars for his buddy in Argentina.
P.S. I have subscribed to Vermont Daily Chronicle as I attempt to read articles from both sides of the political spectrum. I have also enjoyed posting a comment occasionally although I know it will unleash the far right wolfpack to attack me. I understand the editor’s decision to limit comments to only paid subscribers; however, I cannot, in good conscience, give financial support to any organization, public or private, which wholeheartedly defends the actions of the most opportunistic and corrupt person to occupy the White House. Enjoy your echo chamber, folks.
