Here in Vermont, wild turkeys are more than a holiday symbol. Did you know the modern Thanksgiving turkey traces its roots back to North America’s native wild turkey? In fact, all domesticated turkey breeds are descended from the native wild turkey.
Today, the state’s wild turkey population is estimated around 50,000, and each year, Vermonters sustainably harvest over 140,000 servings of wild turkey. That’s over 140,000 servings of free-ranging, wild and sustainably harvested protein! But this wasn’t always possible…
Wild turkeys disappeared from the state by the late 1800s, after their habitats were cleared for farmland and only 25% of the state remained covered by forest. In 1969 and 1970, when Vermont’s forest habitat was once again capable of supporting turkeys, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department released 31 wild turkeys in the southwest corner of the state. This initial population expanded rapidly, and by 1973, the population was estimated at more than 600 turkeys! State biologists then carefully moved groups of these birds northward and originated the population throughout the state today.
This Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of the conservation success story of the wild turkey, just one of many wildlife restoration feats we’re grateful for in 2025.

Fifty thousand ways to spread avian flu. Great!
I’ll need to protect them from the flu by putting as many as I can in my freezer
Oh good lord…avian flu… REALLY.
I guess you’re okay with the 300+ ostriches MURDERED in BC Canada for the “avian flu”… from a BULLS*%T PCR test spun way too much AND Kary Mullis (the inventor) specifically said it is NOT for testing for diseases.
The Highwire did a story on this a couple weeks ago, you should go to their website and watch that segment….
Ostriches? Had not heard about that till now. Did they actually have bird flu or was it just the Canadian government interfering in someone’s livelihood. Avian flu, rabies, covid? Who knows for sure.
https://thehighwire.com/ark-videos/broken-faith/
That was sad.
It’s WAY beyond sad, it was F’ing MURDER…
You couldn’t have watched the whole thing already (!??), did you hear how they corralled them in and did you hear the young woman whose family will have PTSD for the rest of their lives. The LYING and corruption are beyond belief.
I couldn’t watch the whole thing but got the idea. People can deal with this kind of trauma and ptsd but can never get over it, as we discussed a while ago.
You mention lying and corruption. I went through this when doctors lied, nurses lied, anesthesiologist lied, medical files were altered to tell a different story. We never expect it will happen to you. I feel sorry for these folks. If something happens beyond your control, (floods, fires) it still hurts just as much.
To realize these were pets and not raised for meat, each one had a name and a personality… I personally will never get over this horrific act that was committed by the government of Canada, keep your eyes wide open as it can occur here as well (Convid, the culling of humans)!!!
And yes, we did discuss the trauma.
Agreed, organicjude. NO animals, domestic or wild, were created by God to be tortured and killed by man for sport, entertainment, (i.e.: cock fighting or disturbingly perverse “crush” films, trapping) or for political propaganda.
And for whatever reason, it seems that often in VT especially, wild species of virtually all kinds who have lived herein longer than Euro settlers ever stepped foot on this soil suffer particular animosity from so many who seem convinced that these innocents somehow pose great threats to humankind. Danger: Turkeys!
Hardly.
Hell, I definitely don’t trust doctors!!!!
I’m sorry, but we got a little off topic.

Wish i had fifty thousand bottles of wild turkey in my cellar.
PARTY at Richards 😂🤣
Did someone say “Wild Turkey” ? 81, 101, American Honey, or Rare Breed ? Ahhh, it doesn’t matter, it’s all good !
Danger: AIDS! Hardly.
Danger: Covid! Hardly.
Danger: Mad cow disease! Hardly.
Danger: Spanish flu! Hardly.
Danger: shingles! Hardly.
Danger: Avian flu! Oh, don’t worry about it.
Avian flu, a disease so contagious that all birds on a farm needed to be destroyed even if the barns they wrestle kept in were hundreds of feet or yards apart! So familiar to an earlier human event? Government control of people via mandates and price controls.
