America deserves better
by John Bossange
Watching President Trump stumble down the stairs when exiting of Air Force One, clutching the rail to prevent a fall, and dozing during Cabinet meetings, reminds us of President Biden doing the same when exiting Marine One, walking like a stick figure across the West Wing lawn, then closing his eyes at important meetings.
Both these men have shown us why the rigors of the office require a younger person to assume the responsibilities of the presidency of the United States. It’s not just the aging bones and joints that’s a concern. Those failing physical characteristics are more symbolic of the overall health needed to perform a demanding and complex job. As president, Biden searched for words and gave us uncomfortable moments of silence. President Trump struggles to limit his words and focus, rambling through unrelated topics and creating his own uncomfortable moments of babble.
Be it silence or babble, neither has a place in the Oval Office, or at a press conference. Biden’s 2024 debate performance, lack of press conferences, and Trump’s UN and Charlie Kirk memorial speeches were embarrassing moments for Americans and world leaders who count on our presidents to be sharp, cogent, accurate, and truthful. Neither have been that, and America deserves better.
As similar as these eighty year olds are in their shortcomings, there are two significant differences in how they and others responded to their inability to do the work. For President Biden, an inner circle of advisors covered up his weaknesses and apparently never pressed him to remain the “transition” president he promised to be, preventing the Democratic Party from moving forward with a primary process to select another candidate for the 2024 election. This, combined with President Biden’s own refusal to honor his initial pledge and accept his developing cognitive limitations were the ultimate political death nail for the Democratic Party’s chances of winning the 2024 election.
Will the same scenario happen with President Trump? Will his inner circle confront his demented rants and uncontrollable lies? Will President Trump own his cognitive struggles before it becomes its own death nail for the MAGA party? So far, the answers to these questions are a resounding “no.” Fear of retribution has silenced his closest advisors, a loyal Vice president, House and Senate members, and many in the media.
Unlike President Biden, President Trump is relying on an oligarchy of support with the Courts, Congress, and the Military, three key pillars of our democracy. Some might call his time in office a dictatorship because he has used fear and revenge, not the traditional political process for governing, as the foundation for his power as our president. In a nation that has only experienced democracy for 245 years, I believe a dictatorship promoting racist, anti-Semitic, and misogynistic policies will eventually be seen as foreign cancer, and die.
Equally important, voters did not elect an inner circle of advisors to control dysfunctional presidents, and that’s the danger when a president is unable to stay on top of critical domestic issues and understand the complexity of foreign policy. We experienced that watching the Biden Administration’s failure to deal with immigration and the border crisis, inflation, the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the behavior of the president’s son, and to productively engage Vice-President Harris.
Now we see a similar situation with the Trump Administration as its inner circle is making key decisions about staffing, tariffs, ICE arrests, housing vouchers, tax cuts, health care, relationships with other dictators, and Trump’s treatment of those who oppose the President. In both cases, a core of empowered advisors becomes a cabal, and ends up filling the void created by cognitively challenged and confused presidents unable to keep up with the workload. That’s a dangerous precedent for a democracy.
The nation and the world expect America’s presidents to be able to handle the rigors of the job. We are not well served by unelected, loyal Party members who fill the vacuum created by aging presidents. America deserves better.

Clearly, this missive demonstrates a delusionary mental illness symptom.
I know… I know… free speech and all of that. But shouldn’t this article be published with a disclaimer – “The views expressed in this article are solely those of the author and do not reflect the views of the Vermont Daily Chronicle.” After all, by clarifying potential biases, disclaimers can enhance the credibility of the VDC. Lord only knows… in this case, for certain, credibility is a mirage.
Trying to compare Trump and Bidens stamina and cognitive abilities is as comparing a healthy bear to a sloth .

You really shouldn’t call the President a sloth.
Headline fixed:
Bossange: Our aging Ankle Biters are becoming tiresome
Having a discussion about one’s age in a position of power is a fair discussion. But If we’re going to discuss geriatrics, what about Vermont’s senior senator? Or do they offer assisted living on private jets?
And not once did you mention Ronald Reagan.
You know who we need “better” from? Leftists and their promotion of socialism, Communism, violence, and faux news.
Meanwhile, your comments are AGEIST. Every human ages at different rates. Biden has dementia of some type. Trump is very evidently still sharp & possesses an intact intellect.
But you wouldn’t recognize the disparity. After all, you believe men can become women. So, there’s that.
No mention of Nancy Palosi, Chuck Schumer or Maxine Waters; although Bernie was mentioned in comments
By the way, Mr. Bossange….Are YOU not in your mid-seventies?
Perhaps the nation should prevent those in their seventies from writing columns too? I mean, maybe Americans, or at least Vermonters, deserve better than hearing from those who have aged to this advanced degree?
Where might it all end in terms of this now very convenient but obviously inaccurate portrayal of yours in order to denigrate the present POTUS? Maybe you should take the enlightened advice from another fellow leftist – Ezekiel Emanuel – who publicly stated a few years back that life is essentially over at age seventy-five. Why, that’s YOUR age, isn’t it?
Uh-oh. If VDC adopts the same mindset, this needs to be your last column.
Given the schedule and sleeping 4 hours he has a right to doze whenever. Biden sleeps all the time and has a mental problem. Mentally I said to myself I couldn’t keep up with Trump. Bossange couldn’t and I’ll bet many commentators also. It’s another put down of Trump. Trump doesn’t have the personal doctor that Biden had covering up his mental state that took the 5th on all Congress questions. What such an issue to be written about.
The media cave monkeys are fast at work digging up the Epstein drama and pumping select information out to the public and their only thirty years to late. The high level media perverts will be protected and if Trump goes down I hope he takes all the bast… down with him and there a lot of them in very high places. The dog and pony show must go on and releasing all the Epstein all the Epstein files would be a very Marry Christmas. There was no typo in this comment. Comment from Richard Day. Waited a long time for this to happen.
Looks like someone did not like my last comment ,maybe was to much for you to take about the media. Comment From Richard Day.
Now I know why my other post was taken off this website and we will let some one else put out the names. The old C. I. A. saying YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN NOT HIDE. Comment from Richard Day.
This prompted me to look up the list of U.S. Presidents by age. Very surprised to see Teddy Roosevelt was only 42 when he assumed the office after McKinley was assassinated. Biden and Trump are the oldest, but perhaps that is part of the agenda.
It is difficult to and disingenuous to compare strictly by age historically, due to the non drug related death age increases over last 40 years. There is a 41 year old offensive lineman with the Denver Broncos NFL team, years ago someone in that position over 30 was totally unheard of
With all the success Trump is having such as a total and complete victory on the shutdown, closed borders, low taxes, lower gas prices, lower grocery prices, no men in women’s sports or transgender for everyone, ending DEI, stopping Biden’s record setting inflation, regulation cuts, stopping eight wars, rebuilding our military, having trillions of dollars of trade deals invested in the U.S.A. John Bossange wants to compare Trump to Biden? He must be having trouble finding new Trump subjects to write about.
Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.
“That’s the real threat to Democracy, stupid people”. – Donald Trump
Very telling of a society that determines senior citizens of a certain bloodline or linage can hold seats of authority, while the rest are ignored and treated like they don’t know anything. I hear young people bark about boomers, yet still vote and support the oldest boomers on the ticket. The younger ones can’t gain any ground or seats without the oldest of the money changers funding them or programming them.
Is it really about qualifactions or is it the ability to achieve celebrity status through propaganda and blatant deception? What choices are provided? How are the choices provided? There is no business like show business.
Thankyou, Melissa. That’s “the agenda”
Thank you Melissa, perhaps you will contact me for a synopsis of our next non political options.. I’d love to share a wise plan my team is behind with others.
Best wishes, Emily Peyton
More spittle and ramblings from John Bossange, Trump has done more in 11 months than Biden did in 4 years, so glad we have him for 3 more, make sure you don’t cash your personally signed $2,000.00 TRUMP check!
OMG! Government handouts are now something to celebrate? The republican party has truly gone bonkers!
Government handouts, Rosato? No.
First, the tariff dividend is only proposed at this point. But it’s not a handout. It’s returning money to the taxpayers who otherwise can least afford any increase in taxes. Even you.
And what has Trump done in less than a year that Biden didn’t do… ever. Business deregulation, border control, enforced immigration policy, beneficial foreign policy, declining drug and human trafficking, making streets safe again, lowering Federal taxes, increasing ‘State’s Rights’, and federal bureaucracy spending cuts. Yes.
Oh, and those proposed $2000 checks. The tariff dividends…. are for low and middle income people only.
Yes, I know… facts, damned facts and statistics. Meaningless…. right?
2,000.00 TRUMP CHECK. The chance that this check will land in my checking account will depend on if the Trump Epstein freight train does not crash. Not looking very good and I will not borrow any money using this check for collateral.
Hahahhahaaha! And you too! Looking forward to government handouts, eh? Trump has totally turned you to love government handouts. Didn’t you criticize Mamdani and the socialists about wanting to offer government handouts to citizens? Oh wait…. Mamdani is not trump. When trump says government handouts are good, it must be true. Totally not socialist or communist. Trump handouts and high taxes are totally cool…. as long as Trump says so. You must be a bot!
Did any of you remember getting Bush’s rebates? Not a handout, just getting a pittance of what most of us already paid in.
Thank you, dan. I have been asking my friends if they remember the last time the republican party went all socialist with government handouts. My $300 check went to college books, which edumacated me to understand that US tariffs were paid by US consumers, not the exporting country. But those who didn’t learn their lesson are posting on this forum.
Since the government does not produce anything, it cannot hand anything out. All it could do is give back money it took from its citizens in the first place. Refunding us our own money is not a handout.
Nick, so you went to college. Did you get a Pell Grant? Man, talk about your government handouts.
Do you mean the $1200 total Biden checks didn’t come from Tax money? Not all tariffs are passed on to consumers, some are absorbed in company profits so they can have the deduction on corporate taxes, some passed to consumers in other Countries, at times subsidized by their governments
Ron, which tariffs were absorbed by exporting countries? Certainly you can name a few. And if American businesses absorb the cost, that’s the same as taking money from american citizens. It just baffles my mind to think that republicans love tariffs as much as trump fans. Gone are the Reagan days of free trade. And now republicans are all about barriers. So bizarre.
I GOTTA SAY, I’M SURPRISED MR. BOSSANGE WAS ALLOWED TO WRITE A COMMENTARY ON VDC…HE SOUNDS MORE LIKE A LIBERAL…I AGREE WE SHOULD HAVE YOUNGER PRESIDENTS. HOPING FOR A J.D. VANCE PRESIDENT IN 3 YEARS.
Get ready for the Trump and Epstein massive freight train crash coming next week with government, media, and crooked high level business persons are thrown under the train. Pop the popcorn for the greatest show of the century and PEDOGATE is exposed. We do not a two thousand dollar check in our household and it looks more like a bribe to me. All of this information was known thirty years ago and the media kept it buried. Now are there any more questions. Comment from Richard Day. Now we will see how they will vote.
I’ll believe it when I see it. After all, the Democrats have been engineering this so-called freight train for the last four years or so. If they didn’t spill the beans during the 2024 election cycle, what makes you think they have anything to spill now?
Drivin’ that train, high on cocaine (as they were), Casey Jones, you better watch your speed.
Very interesting take since it now out that Democrat Jamie Raskin distributed STOLEN emails from an estate attorney in which the name that was redacted was that of a victim that said President Trump had no involvement
Jay, Democrats need to reinvent this issue to take the headlines away from their failure with the Government shutdown and media is playing right into their hands, well it is their propaganda media. I see our Congressional ‘representative’ is re running her disingenuous TV commercial spreading her lies about GOP wanting millions to die for lack of health insurance and stating the GOP wants to do everything the Democrats are doing, taking healthcare away from citizens and following the Party lines to provide Billions to Billionaires that are running large Health Insurance Companies. She also states Rural Hospitals will close, which is what the Democrats wanted in the Bill they were demanding pass before Government can reopen, $50 Billion taken away from Rural Hospitals. What makes Becca’s commercial more disingenuous is that it was recorded to oppose the Big Beautiful Bill, which already passed, the other reference was to the BiPartisan Bill to reopen Government, which again has already passed, does she have a Time Machine? the Tag line says it was paid for with tax money, Paid for by Congress of the United States and not by her campaign or Democrat Party.
Looks like the Trump and Epstein freight train have picked up some new freight with the Clintons, Obama, and BIG MIKE are on board for the ride
