Brattleboro News producer Hank “Planet Hank” Poytras has produced another crime scene video. This time the victim was a ski jump sign.

On October 11, Brattleboro police received a report of an accident on Main Street near the library where a vehicle apparently traveling the wrong way struck the ski jumper sign, located on the downtown median, honoring the Harris Hill ski jumps.

Responding units discovered the vehicle’s windshield shattered and airbags deployed after it hit a pole supporting the large metal ski jumper silhouette, causing it to fall.

The driver was transported to the hospital, treated for injuries, and cited for DUI.

Harris Hill is an Olympic-size, 90-meter hill in Brattleboro. The Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition offers spectators an opportunity to experience the Olympic sport of ski jumping up close in all its breathtaking, heart-stopping glory.

A 501 C-3 organization made up of volunteers with a passion for winter sports is dedicated to maintaining the jump and keeping it available for training and competition.
