Lifestyle icon Martha Stewart has opened her Katonah, New York, farm to two rescued Friesian horses, giving them a safe and permanent home after years of uncertainty.
The bonded pair, named Ulysses and Stewart, were adopted from The Dorset Equine Rescue, a Vermont-based nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitating and rehoming at-risk horses. The two horses reportedly were rescued from Townshend earlier this year.

The organization shared the news over the weekend, calling the adoption “a true dream come true” for the animals and their volunteers.
“These two boys, who once knew hardship and uncertainty, now have the chance to live their very best lives surrounded by care, comfort, and breathtaking pastures,” Dorset Equine Rescue said in a statement. “Martha, thank you for opening your heart and your farm — and for showing the world what compassion in action looks like.”
On her personal blog on September 15, Stewart introduced her new horses, writing that while it will take time for them to acclimate to their new surroundings, they are already settling in well.
“The two had a great first weekend — exploring their new surroundings, meeting new friends, and learning their new routines,” Stewart wrote. “They especially loved eating the hay from last week’s big second-cut harvest in my run-in pasture.”
The Dorset Equine Rescue, founded in 2012, has rehomed more than 100 horses across New England. Volunteers say moments like this remind them why their work matters.
“Standing alongside Martha Stewart as Ulysses and Stewart stepped into their forever home was a true dream come true,” the rescue team said.
The organization encouraged supporters to follow along for updates on the horses’ new chapter through Stewart’s blog and its own social media channels.
