A head-on collision on Route 128 in Westford Sunday night sent two people to the hospital and resulted in a DUI arrest.

The crash happened around 10:23 p.m. on July 13 near the intersection of Route 128 and Talcott Road. Vermont State Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle accident with injuries on the wet roadway under cloudy conditions.

According to police, 38-year-old Jennifer Lee of Winooski was driving north on Route 128 in a 2023 Toyota RAV4 when her vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane. Lee’s vehicle then struck a 2013 Hyundai Tucson driven by 58-year-old Gretchen Woerner of Milton, who was traveling south.

Police say Woerner tried to avoid the collision, but both vehicles crashed in the southbound lane. Both cars sustained heavy damage to their front driver’s sides.

Lee, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered injuries to her neck and legs. Woerner, who was wearing her seatbelt, sustained more serious injuries including head, neck, knee, and shoulder injuries, as well as breathing difficulties. Both drivers were taken to Northwestern Medical Center for treatment.

During their investigation, state troopers determined that Lee had been driving under the influence of alcohol. She was arrested and released with a citation requiring her to appear at Chittenden County Superior Court on September 9, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. to face a first-offense DUI charge.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-878-7111.

Several local emergency services assisted at the scene, including Fairfax Fire and Rescue, Westford Fire Department, Essex Town Fire Department, and Stone’s Auto.
