Vermont’s congressional delegation responded promptly on the X social media platform Saturday night, June 21 to the U.S. bombing of three nuclear sites in Iran

Bernie Sanders speaks off the cuff Saturday night after learning of the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear sites

Sen. Bernie Sanders, speaking at a Tulsa, Oklahoma rally (see video on X), with a crowd shouting ‘No more war,’ shook his head, frowned, and exclaimed:

“It is so grossly unconstitutional. The only entity that can take this country to war is Congress. The president does not have the right!”

Rep. Becca Balint said on X –

“This is reckless, illegal action from the president. He does NOT have the authority to enter us into a war with Iran. He MUST consult Congress. This is not what Americans want. I’m thinking about our troops tonight.”

Sen. Peter Welch tweeted –

“President Trump’s decision to strike Iran doesn’t make America safer, it puts us in danger.

“Prime Minister Netanyahu is dragging us into another forever war in the Middle East.

“Congress has the power to declare war, not the President.”

Later, Sanders issued a more detailed statement, denouncing President Trump’s military strikes against Iran, warning that the U.S. is once again on the brink of a dangerous, costly war based on falsehoods.

“The American people were lied to about Vietnam, with tragic consequences. The American people were lied to about Iraq, with tragic consequences,” Sanders said. “The American people are being lied to again today. We cannot allow history to repeat itself.”

The statement comes amid reports that the president ordered strikes in response to alleged Iranian threats to U.S. interests in the Middle East. Details of the operation remain classified, but Pentagon sources confirmed a limited engagement.

Sanders, who has long opposed U.S. military intervention in the Middle East, invoked historical comparisons to Vietnam and Iraq—conflicts he said were justified with misinformation and resulted in thousands of American deaths and trillions in taxpayer costs.

“In the 1960s the United States government lied to the American people and took us into a terrible war in Vietnam,” Sanders said. “In 2002, we were told Iraq was building weapons of mass destruction. It was a lie. That war cost us thousands of lives and destabilized the region for decades.”

The senator also pointed to comments made in 2002 by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who urged Congress to support the war in Iraq, promising “enormous positive reverberations” if Saddam Hussein’s regime were toppled. “That war was based on a lie,” Sanders said.

“We cannot allow ourselves to be dragged into another Middle East war based on lies,” he added. “The U.S. faces enormous problems here at home, which we must address.”

Sanders has not yet announced any legislation in response but called for immediate congressional oversight and public accountability.

  1. Is the Senator from Brooklyn insinuating that a nuclear-armed Iran is not a threat to world peace? Does he really think that it is possible to have rational and meaningful negotiations with a suicidal, apocalyptic theocratic dictatorship which has repeatedly threatened to inflict death upon it’s ideological opponents? As a citizen of the “Great Satan”, methinks that Bernie’s delusions, and those of his caucus are the real existential threat we face as the civilized world deals with the burden of radical islam. Peace Through Strength at this point is the only way to defang this beast, until the decent people of Iran overthrow that evil regime.

  2. Forcing people to wear masks is unconditional they all pushed it!!

  3. Where were they during the Korean (conflict), the Vietnam police action, Bosnia and a host of other non wars that we got involved with? Grandstanding at it’s finest

    • Exactly. They don’t seem to understand President Trump is the Commander in Chief. He did nothing others before him haven’t done! He wasn’t declaring War. He doesn’t have to consult with Congress. Many others went a lot further and got us into many Wars that were never declared by us! Those 3 love to listen to themselves talk! They should just be locked in a room and spend the day telling each other how right they are without the rest of us having to listen to their BS anyway! They don’t do anything significant anyway!

  4. Definitely NOT unconstitutional. This is not war. This is a preventative action.

    • Exactly!! I bet they haven’t even attempted to understand why this action took place. Maybe they should stop and take a look at some of the reasons this was necessary, ie. how both Obama and Biden assisted Iran in enhancing their nuclear threat.

    • According to Dems President Trump is an evil dictator and they are taking to the streets in support of IRAN (where does one buy an Iranian Flag at last minute on a Saturday night?). Just heard in Iran, the ‘Religious Police’ following the bombing executed without a trial, over 100 Iranian citizens accused of being spies for Israel.

  5. Where were they when Bush, Clinton, and Obama did the same or many times more?
The President advised Congress within 48 hours and they have 60 days to come up with a resolution of their liking.

    • Where were they when Obama sent the illegal pallets of cash containing billions of dollars without Congressional approval

  6. See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil, You know them well. They are three monkeys that a Chinese proverb calls the three “wise” monkeys. I believe that a monkey by any other name is still a monkey, and Vermont has three of the carpet baggin’ flatlanders that are just monkeys mimicking a party line, good or bad..They will do, or say as they are told. Vote them out !

    • We’ve seen the mentality of our elected officials with these two along with Becca falling for click bait from UK and posting that the VA Medical facilities are going to stop treating Democrats

  7. They all obviously aren’t up to date on the Warpowers Act. The president can take military action without approval for 60 days. I mean, it was OK when Obama did it.

    • And waited two days before he let the Senate Pro Tempore, and the Speaker of the hiuse what he had done.

    • Sorry Patrick, wrong as these three elected officials, a required notice was sent before the bombs dropped, so advance notice was given to the appropriate leaders, the planes were over target reportedly but bombs weren’t dropped yet. Another question is, was Iran using uranium that Hillary Clinton and her Foundation sold to Russia?

    • Ron, According to Wikipedia; “On 19 March 2011, several countries prepared to take immediate military action at a summit in Paris.[15] Operations commenced on the same day with a strike by French fighter jets, then US and UK forces conducting strikes from ships and submarines via 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles and air assets bombing Gaddafi forces near Benghazi.

Also according to Wikipedia; “21 March 2011: Obama sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate claiming the actions were justified under the War Powers Resolution.”

    • Sorry Ron , but it would seem we are talking about two different incidents. You, I believe, are talking about the present situation. I was commentiong on Obama’s 2011actions against Lybia. “Operation Odyssey Dawn. Sorry for the confusion.

  8. Iran’s Hamas reportedly has a training camps in Venezuela with some forces from there coming in as “migrants looking for a better life and a wife” under Biden, which FBI has lost track of

  9. I hesitate to call them “Vermont’s” congressional members, because they ARE NOT Vermonters nor do they represent Vermont. Balint, Sanders and Welch don’t know what the hell they’re talking about, and Sanders is already using the event to grift for money on his “Our Revolution” site.
The United States did not declare war on Iran this past weekend (The United States has not declared war on another country since 1941), even though Iran and its proxies have been killing Americans and others since they took over our embassy in Tehran in 1979. The United States made a preemptive strike to eliminate the very real threat that Iran would acquire, and had promised to use just last week, nuclear weapons on Israel and the United States.
During the “Cold War,” (also undeclared), and prior to my own deployment to a war zone in 1971, my father, a career Strategic Air Command, Air Force bomber pilot, told me that in his world wide travels for the service, he had once visited Hiroshima. The atomic bomb used was 16 kilotons. He said the damage was a devastating and the loss of life was tremendous. I asked him if it was worth it. He replied ‘You damn right!,” because it saved a million American lives, and many millions of Japanese lives that would have been lost if WW II had continued.
The nuclear weapons Iran envisioned for use on Israel and the United States would have been several times that powerful. Our congressional delegation doesn’t know ‘Jack’ about cause and effect. All they know how to do is stand on the sidelines and whine, scream and shout, and in Sander’s case, try to raise money on it.
Was the United States preemptive strike the past weekend on Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities worth it?
You damned right! (Thanks for the words, Dad)

  10. This was accomplished the only way it could have been accomplished—with the utmost of secrecy. Can you imagine the chances of pulling that off if the president had to “consult” that bunch of blabbermouths called “Congress?”

  11. “Unconstitutional”: the unhinged Left’s TDS buzzword for anything
    1.) They don’t like.
2.) President Trump and his administration says or does.

I love the Babylon Bee headline from Saturday:

“Democrats Outraged After Court Rules Commander-In-Chief Of Armed Forces Can Command Armed Forces”

  12. Dumb, dumber and dumbest should really not have missed Civics Class in High School.

  13. If they act likde a duck, quack like a duck and from VT they are ducks. Yet a duck has more brains.

  14. The Dems didn’t stop Lyndon Johnson from attacking Vietnam… “Policing action,” not “war.” I mean I think both may have been unconstitutional, but you can’t pick and choose only based on whether your personal pick is President. Instead of whining that it’s not Biden ordering the bombing, why don’t both sides shore up that gap in the Constitution. Also, the Dems need to stop selectively wanting to abide by the Constitution.

  15. I don’t remember these 3 stooges protesting when Obama bombed Libya.

  16. What about Obama obligating the U S into the United Nations 2030 Agenda in 2015. He obligated the country with one signature, his own. Thie agenda was not called a treaty because a agreeing to a treaty has to be voted on by Congress. A very cleaver way to get around legal requirements.

  17. Sanders, Welch & Balint are 3 assholes; when are Vermonters realize this and vote them OUT!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Blah Blah Blah. Did we expect anything different from the 3 stooges.

  19. Dumb Democrats need to get out of office or read the Constitution before they start whining like little babies! President Donald Trump has everyone Constitutional right to bomb with permission from anyone! Ask these idiots how many bombs Obama dropped during his Presidency. Obama never asked permission either. Stop fighting Trump and wasting Vermont taxpayers money! Anyone voting Democrat after year is part of the problem and not part of the solution!

  20. The greatest show on earth!

“Does Congress have to approve a military strike?
    AI Overview
“While the President can order military strikes, Congress holds the power to declare war and has the authority to authorize the use of military force. The War Powers Resolution (or War Powers Act) was passed to limit the President’s ability to initiate military action without Congressional approval. However, presidents have often sidestepped these requirements by using Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) resolutions or by claiming emergency powers.”

The funny thing is that anytime the United States economy is tanking and lots of money is missing or unaccounted for – what tactic is used to stave off complete collapse and/or distract the population from all the corruption and fraud of leaders? Wake up people – we’re being set up for the greatest rug pull in modern history – we’re broke, but let’s create mayhem and military “conflicts” to steal the rest and then collapse the old system.

  21. I don’t think we created the mayhem that Iran and its terrorist proxies have initiated since 1978. And further back to 1948, the mayhem directed against Israel as soon as it became a recognized sovereign nation.

Melissa, you’re right about the greedy and duplicitous fraud committed by some US leaders to plunge us into the debacles of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. But there is also a vast difference between the evil and lying the US perpetrated against its own military personnel and the people of Vietnam—as well as the lies Bush and the neocons used to get us into Iraq and Afghanistan—and the present situation in Iran.

We must pray now for God’s wisdom for President Trump and his administration, just as He supplied this to our presidents during WWII because it was right and just of the US to enter into the fight to stop the Nazis and Japan.

  22. Congress has to declare war, per the constitution. Trump didn’t declare war. He made strikes to destroy a dangerous country’s nuclear program. Big difference.

  23. your headline for this article is not completely accurate — Sanders, Welch, Balint say U.S. bombing Iran ‘unconstitutional’; Welch (I’m no fan) did not use the word unconstitutional; he is a lawyer and would know the president did not declare war but took strategic action as has been done by just about every president since Jimmy Carter; he disagrees or did that the president took the action

  24. I told you before that something would happen in June 2025. This is a major distraction to keep your minds off the economic destruction being planned in this country.

  25. You were put in your positions to work on our behalf , Vermont . I an many of us do not agree with what your priorities are . I do agree with President Trump , and he has done more for OUR nation than anyone in recent years , so I will back him as much as I can !

  26. These same two idiots who use the word “unconstitutional” every time Trump does something are the same people who think it’s constitutional to take our AR15s away said nothing when Joe Biden was the guy who left 358,530 AR16/M4s and other types of Rifles, 126,295 – Pistols and 64,363 SAWs Squad Automatic Weapons ( Machine Guns) for a total of 549,118 small arms to the Taliban and sent tens of billions of dollars’ worth of weapons to Ukraine.

THE 2nd AMENDMENT DOES NOT GRANT US THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. THE 2nd AMENDMENT PROHIBITS THE GOVERNMENT FROM INFRINGING ON OUR RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS – PERIOD! THEREFORE, ALL GUN CONTROL IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL AND ILLEGAL!

So please Bernie, Welch, Balint and all you other Communists don’t talk about unconstitutionality to me when you can’t follow it.

  27. The Vermont three STOOGES are part of the Marxist regime. If Trump does it ; it’s a terrible thing🤣wouldn’t expect them to say anything else. What’s sad is the sheeple that can’t see through it. But you just can’t fix stupid.
