HO-hum on the ‘new’ toilet: I use a humanure toilet system:
5 Gal bucket
wooden pallet to set it on
peat every other use
don’t mix pee and poo (blech!!!)
= BE-U-TI-FULL compost in 1.5 years: OH MY!!!!
The trees under which this be-u-ti-ful setup is located shield wind, snow and rain — and I dress accordingly. Its MY old fashioned ‘weather rock’ and place of contemplation of all that is God’s creation…and might I say… I time and place of prayer as well.
The overkill on the above toilet…welp… I wish I had a tiny house that looked like that!!! Better use of wood and design!
Ohhhhhh…humans… we be sooooo stoopeedo!
I’ve lived with outhouses for 50 of my 73 years…and hated it when I had indoor or enclosed so called plumbing… its a much simpler world to live in than we make it… and I can grow things nearly immediately…it comes from Japanese ‘nightsoil’ gardening.
Sort of like Joel Salatin’s chicken + rabbit composting… YOU make the connection.
Will i be required to install one of these s..t for brains toilets at my deer camp??????
I’ve been preaching since Hurricane Irene in 2011 about the Japanese Knotweed problem. It’s a bit unique in that it spreads so quickly and prolifically, but is very, very hard to kill and eradicate. Ever try to kill off a bamboo patch? This is far worse. The simple answer I’ve always gotten is that it’s “too difficult” and “too costly” to try to get rid of it. To me, that just says “Not enough people are complaining for us to pay attention or do anything”.
You know the lefties… They’re in favor of every cause that comes down the pike if they can virtue signal about their “concerns” and put up a yard sign. Japanese Knotweed eradication? Nah. Doesn’t move the needle. Wait, WHAT?!? Wood turtles are endangered?!? We need to get on this ASAP!
Funny, that. It’s been obvious for over a decade that if Japanese Knotweed is spreading this fast and taking over so much territory (and it is), sooner or later our native species would begin to suffer and the ecosystem would get out of balance. Folks, that time is here. I hope.
Now, I don’t have any particular feelings one way or the other about wood turtles, other than they’re beautiful and our naturescape is better off with them in it. But if the wood turtle is the reason we start to finally deal with the Japanese Knotweed invasion, all of a sudden I’m a big wood turtle fan.
The Mad River Toilet design looks great! Nice, appealing design.
It also resembles the structures designed by Community Supported Shelters in Oregon to battle homeless concerns. vthope.net/microd.html the one in the bottom right is in Vermont. This is their website depicting several units. Some clustered in community blocks, others are clustered in 3-4 units in community organization parking lots – churches, civic groups, and the like. https://www.communitysupportedshelters.org/
Since VT is essentially a leftist loo at this point, why not save all the $$$ for something like this, and just drop trou on the closest public road and let it fly – it works GREAT in NYC and was implemented by blue (of course) Mayor Bill De Blasio.
How ’bout it, Gov. Scott?
